My cousin's kid fell on the grass, everyone stoped and looked at him and i said "oh boy". He got up, said "oh boy" and continued running.
I actually know a couple who make a point to go "oops! Get up then, brush brush!" And they brush their kid off and send him on his way, and the kid legit never cries unless he's bleeding or broken something
This was normal parenting in my day. My mum used to "rub it better" and send us on our way.
Legit same. I'd run full speed into the wall or something, fall over and my mum would just go "ooh, that was a good one." 😂😂😂 I'd apparently pull a face, give my head a quick rub and then carry on
I had that approach and even a bloody nose etc and broken foot didn't make my lad cry, it Is best to not make a fuss or more importantly not panic around them when they have a accident, no good comes from it
He's right though. I used to work in childcare, and we had several kids who would just laugh if they fell over because that's what their parents always did (not point and laugh, just a kind laugh). They only cried when they were actually seriously hurt. Then, one bloody day, a relief worker ran over and made a fuss when one of them had fallen. Ever since then that kid cried at the drop of a hat. Thanks woman ugh. The parents were pissed lol

He’s exactly right. When my kids would fall, I’d say “you’re ok, shake it off.” And that’s what they did.

Depends on the kid, done the same with both, 1 crys most times , other bounces up immediately, its personality based aswell. My toddler had a melt down , because he wanted to look at his sweets , but wanted to also wanted to eat them. His brain was blown by this concept.

My son was so rational, I explained saving his allowance to buy something nicer, and he did it on his own, at the age of 4.
My 2 year younger daughter is now 26, and she still has trouble saving for anything.

I split my head open when I was 3 years old, and apparently was inconsolable.... because I was copying my mother's freaking out.
The second my father took me for the stitches I was calm up until the needle was near me cuz my father tensed. (Big man who could flatten you by accident so I knew something was up)
The point is kids copy your reaction, pretend they are fine and they will be.
I didn't care my head was literally split open, I cared my mother was reacting poorly.
I wasn't afraid of stitches, I was afraid that my mammoth of a father was afraid.
If both had acted calmly (impossible in this situation I know) I wouldn't of opened my mouth or shed a tear.
My son when he hurts himself looks to me for a reaction and it's usually me going 😬😬😬😬 which makes him crack up laughing.
Unless they have been shot, laugh when your kids hurt themselves and they'll become stronger for it.
I cannot do the baby language with children. I would be the most serious parent.
It's weird though. I would never have thought I would do baby talk, but I did. Now I'm a grandmother I don't do it, because I have learned over the last 50 years that most parents do it. Many parents seem to do it instinctively, so I think there is a real and genuinely valuable place for it. That said, when/if you have a very young child, you don't have to do the baby language if it doesn't feel right for you. Just talk to the baby/child gently and kindly about what's going on. Let your child's Grandparents, Aunties, Cousins, and neighbours do the 'baby talk'.
No law that says you have to speak like that, I never did!
I have found being around children it's a toss up if you leave them on their own after they hurt themselves. Some will just get up and keep going. Other will start wailing and act like the world is coming down around them.
this is 99.99% dependant on how theit parents handle their kids hurting themselves. wailing parents raise wailing kids

Rule at my friend's house was count to 10 after you hear the THUD of a toddler hitting the deck before making eye contact.
Legit watched a 3 y/o run full tilt, face first into the coffee table. Opened her mouth to cry, looked around to see if anyone was panicking, saw that no one was. She closed her mouth, shrugged it off, and went directly back to whatever she had been doing. Didn't make a peep.

@3.50 that is so true as long as its not a serious fall it works a treat, they almost always do it again to make you laugh again.
Perhaps it was his comedy routine, but I can relate to everything he said.
For example, I really like a boys choir, but they are 10,000 kilometres away, and I don't have to deal with the non-choir bits.
I have a nephew who is 7 years old. I have never met him, and from what I have heard about him, never want to.
But strangely, my dog loves kids, so I have become a good actor at pretending I like them too.

I just say opsie daisy up we get and if theyve got dirt on them you help rub it off. Although silence isnt always good sometimes silence is worrying, had a kid fall over head first without putting their hands out (not sure how they managed it but I saw it happen and even I was like how). I heard the crack and they stayed on the floor silent, theyd cracked their skull open just the face of horror on their face. I carried them to the first aider after rolling them over because no one was listening to me shout from help (this was within a school). They looked like a proper beat up child for the next few weeks where they have a lovely merage of bruises on their face.
Were there multiple kids who fell over because you keep using "they"?
@@thecentralscrutinizer I assume they just don't want to reveal the child's gender, but it really doesn't matter in this story, the point is, even though the poor kid got seriously hurt, they didn't cry.
@@thecentralscrutinizer I like to make children anonymous because I am referring to children I worked with as a teacher or as a teaching assistant. Their gender or name is not important.

@@Pheluv my mom always said that she never cared much if we laughed or cried, but its was whem everything got silent she started to worry, becausr that meant that we either got seriously hurt, or was up yo no good or doint some shennanigans we were not sllowed to do, so i really nltice that difference with my kids now, my SO is always checking on the kids every 2 minutes, i generally leave them be unless they get silent (or i hear him getting hurt badly)
kids are tougher then mlst realize, they are made to survive first-time parents after all
he is kinda right on the kids falling bit, me and the missus never coddle our son when he falls over (1.5 yrs ) we just go "oppsie! up you go!" in a giddy voice (unless we see him actually hurting himself) and now he whenever he faceplants he justs laughs and stands back up.
my missus friend however coddles her kid for the most minute thing all the time, so whenever she trips or falls over, even just falling on her bum its hysterical tears and wailing for 20 minutes. and my missus friend cant even see how she has endorsed this behavior in her kid....

When my little nephew would fall, my mom and I would laugh and then make sure he’s okay. Help him up, make sure there aren’t any injuries, then encourage him to keep playing. No fuss, just “oh! Hahaha, you okay haha?” If he got up after a second and laughed, we knew he’d be fine.
yeah we'd say "oh! teehee, you went boom boom," when they fell so theyed laugh.
All my dad ever said was “shut up!”

That thing about kids that just pliéed them ground with their nose. Actually laugh, like in a nice way, helps a lot. At least at my ones. If you’re like „Huh! Oh my!“ they’ll cry. If you go „hey buddy, sniffin‘ the ground again?“ or „oh is it nap time again?“ they’ll most certainly laughter with you
I'm the same way when it comes to the coloring. If the colors are ridiculous, I can't stand it
Rosalyn McFlaw even as a kid I couldn't handle it. Id look at other kids projects and frown wondering why they would put so many different colors and things togethers that don't belong. I actually have more acceptance of kids art now as an adult then I did back then.

Even when I was a toddler I was judging the kids that coloured outside the lines

Nah kids are better off with two parents if possible. Plus that's a huge responsibility for one person. Being a single parent on purpose is just making things unnecessarily difficult for you and your kids.

I teach preschool and our first response is "you're okay!" and then subtly checking to make sure that's true (thankfully toddlers are apparently made of rubber!)

I have a nephew and when he falls over we all just say "boosh" in a positive playful manner. His grandma started giving him sympathy so now he falls over deliberately to get the sympathy...
It's a good lesson, I mean I'm an adult and if someone else is concerned/worried or scared about something then I tend to feel that same way even though I didn't previously. So I think it's a good thing to not show too much worry, concern or fear to children cos they pick up on it and you want them to feel strong and grow with their independence. Thats not to say sympathy doesn't have it's place with children though, there's circumstances where it's needed.
I have to tell you that I have laughed at my kid when he fell over before and sometimes they laugh back, and other times they're mad at you and they think you basically made them fall so you could laugh at them

We actually did that with my niece, she had always been tough as nails (like her at the time 5 year old brother jumped on her and she just sat there like nothing happened) but we started cheering every time she fell as a baby and now she is a total badass, luke she wrestles with her 3 dogs, one if them is a fucking akida, if you know anything about akidas the fact that a young child wrestles with one for fun would drop your jaw

Reading the comments it seems a couple of people think its a good idea to laugh at a child who has fallen/hurt themselves. Its really not. Jon is doing it for comedic effect - that should give you a clue.
