Well, it's unrealistic they have done this almost 80 years ago. PUC has to not only act, but also react to the performance of other musicians... that's fantastic. Very energetic performance filled with nuances.

பாட்டும் நானே,பாவமும் நானே பாட்டை கேட்டது போல் இருக்கிறது. வித்தியாசம் சிவாஜி முக பாவம்,வாய் அசைவு, தாளத்திற்கு ஏற்ப விரல் அசைவு அருமை . சொந்த குரலில் பாடியது போல் இருக்கும். இதை பார்த்து சிவாஜி சிறப்பாக செய்ய நினைத்திருப்பார். ஒரே வித்தியாசம் சின்னப்பா சொந்த குரலில் மிக சிறப்பாக பாடி உள்ளார்.

PUC being a senior Actor-cum-Singer (as normally was in practice those days in filmdom to select only those who know to Sing), I respect and admire him (PUC) more than any of his admirers. Being a Singer myself ( I can sing all songs, including PUC's in the singer's voice) but not professionally, I admire and respect PUC more than anybody. However, since you made a comparison with Sivaji, I thought I can also say a few words. Sivaji respected all his senior actors very much. But, there cannot be any comparison with Sivaji Ganesan, the Born Actor, either in the past, in the present or in the future too, even in Acting for Song Sequence too. Even though he was not a Singer by himself, he gave life to all types of songs, creating the Magic that as if he himself only is singing, through his wonderful Lip movements for Lyrics (including the lip movements for different ragas according to various Raga patterns, Raga's ups and downs, and Swaras), through his wonderful Facial expressions and amazing Body Language, and for BGM too coming in between, which no actor/no singer-actor could even dream of for ever, right from the dawn of Cinema in the globe. Even a singer himself cannot give such kind of expressions for his own songs as Sivaji did ! Literally he owned/took possession of every song allotted for him. This cannot happen unless high music sense is prevalent and inherent in the soul of the greatest Actor called Sivaji. Sivaji excelled and was a phenomenon in that respect, viz., in acting for songs too. Sivaji will act for Instruments too wonderfully as if he only is handling the concerned Instruments. பாட்டும் நானே song also can be quoted as an example for this, apart from many other songs. Do you understand this? There is a strong air of over acting both in action and tone of Sivaji, which all prove he can't represent any individual living in public....never. The case of PUC is different, as he doesn't do overacting, and he represents all the great singers of Karnatic music as he himself is the singer. This is the truth, you have to digest it even it is bit stronger. In my life I have never seen anyone walking, talking, laughing and crying like Sivaji. And if anyone lives like that such person will be laughed at. Thus Sivaji represents an artificial, cinematic illusive character. PUC represents a real character possible to witness in life. Sivaji is a glittering gem to entertain. PUC is a healthy tonic to the soul. That is the difference.

I am a fan of PUC more than any of you, being a Singer myself. With all modesty I wish to state that apart from my own voice, I can sing in different voices of various singers effortlessly exactly, right from PUC's voice. But I did not venture professionally due to so many family commitments, being the only Son among the siblings. Coming to central subject matter, I think you have not clearly understood about Sivaji. Your narrations were rather Amusing and exhibited lack of sufficient knowledge on your part about the Greatest Actor Sivaji Ganesan, in certain places ! Sivaji only brought before our eyes many Living personalities, with more accurate performance and Historical figures too, out of his wonderful imagination ! No other actor in the whole world ! Even veteran actor Mammotty quoted on the above lines while talking about Sivaji. But, Cinema is Not just meant to always view Real-life characters alone you are seeing daily. Such kind of monotony and stereotypes cannot be tolerated by all. In fact, you need not view a film if you are so particular about the so-called Realism on screen too. That boredom cannot be digested by many, but for a few people of your mindset. However, Sivaji only undoubtedly portrayed real-life characters more effectively than any other actor you intend to quote. An Actor has to satisfy all classes of audience of varied tastes. In that respect, Respected Sivaji Ganesan can be deemed as a Complete Actor and 8th Wonder of the World, as aptly described by veteran actor Mohanlal ! Moreover, Acting itself is portraying life incidents artistically. Otherwise, we need not go to a theatre or view TV and can just talk/interact with each other by simply relaxing at home and attain satisfaction. I wonder whether any people are prepared to remain like that ! Is BGM (a must for Cinema/TV) a part of your real life accompanying you whenever you are talking or wherever you are going ? Can an individual Fight with more than two people in real life ? Whether couple/lovers are Dancing in Parks in real life ? Are you prepared to forego such exaggerated and most Unreal versions while viewing a Cinema ? (But, it is surprising that a 1954 Sivaji Starrer titled ANDHA NAAL was such a film without Songs, without Dance and without even a single Fight scene too !) You made a trial to become a Philosopher at the end of your text ! You should first clearly understand that Soul is self-contained/self-effulgent and it does not require any Tonic at all ! You cannot/need not give anything to Soul and also nobody can make any alteration concerning Soul. Soul is independent of everything ! However, materialistically a Glittering Gem will make everyone Happy due to its Shine even from reasonably a long distance. It won't lose its Value at any cost wherever it remains. It won't perish. It is immaterial whether you possess it or not. Acting is an Art form and there is room for exaggerated versions too, if you think so. Art of Acting has a wide platform for all kinds of performance and so-called Realism is nothing but just one aspect among them. Nobody can digest boredom if it goes beyond certain level. After all people go in search of happiness and seek some entertainment to escape from the clutches of real life problems. This was the foundation for the Paattum Naane scene of Sivaji. But Sivaji did only acting, but PUC did acting, singing, konnakkol everything so fantastically. After seeing this Sivaji looks dim before PUC....I can't deny this fact.
But, also there is no denial of the fact that Sivaji attained Post-Graduation and then Ph.D. in Lip movements for Lyrics, Ragas/ expressions in handling three different musical instruments (not done in veteran PUC's song), creating an impression as if he (Sivaji) only sang the song and not a different Singer/Konnokol expert. Also heartfelt appreciation to be extended to Sivaji's acting, who created the magic as to whether he (Sivaji) only played all the instruments and not the respective musicians, thereby becoming the sole authority for the song, through his wonderful acting ! A Giant Superstar will look dim from looking at a distance, in this vast Cosmos. But actually it is several times greater than Sun, which is also a star. V.GIRIPRASAD (70)

P.U.Chinnappa was a Versatile actor and singer, in the Thirties until 1951, when he passed away at just 35 years! - A big loss, no doubt to the Tamil Cinema. This technique of showing multiple images of a single actor, is the First Pioneering effort in this Film. Similar imaging can be seen in later Films: in Krishna Vijayam with Narasimma Bharathy as Krishna and T.M.Soundararajan singing his first Playback song on Films- Radhe nee ennai vittu pokathedi; and in Thiruvilayadal with Sivaji Ganesan acting for the song Paattum Naane with TMS again singing the song (playback).

PUC being a senior Actor-cum-Singer (as normally was in practice those days in filmdom to select only those who know to Sing), I respect and admire him (PUC) more than any of his admirers. Being a Singer myself ( I can sing all songs, including PUC's in the singer's voice) but not professionally, I admire and respect PUC more than anybody. However, since you made a comparison with Sivaji, I thought I can also say a few words. Sivaji respected all his senior actors very much. But, there cannot be any comparison with Sivaji Ganesan, the Born Actor, either in the past, in the present or in the future too, even in Acting for Song Sequence too. Even though he was not a Singer by himself, he gave life to all types of songs, creating the Magic that as if he himself only is singing, through his wonderful Lip movements for Lyrics (including the lip movements for different ragas according to various Raga patterns, Raga's ups and downs, and Swaras), through his wonderful Facial expressions and amazing Body Language, and for BGM too coming in between, which no actor/no singer-actor could even dream of for ever, right from the dawn of Cinema in the globe. Even a singer himself cannot give such kind of expressions for his own songs as Sivaji did ! Literally he owned/took possession of every song allotted for him. This cannot happen unless high music sense is prevalent and inherent in the soul of the greatest Actor called Sivaji. Sivaji excelled and was a phenomenon in that respect, viz., in acting for songs too. Sivaji will act for Instruments too wonderfully as if he only is handling the concerned Instruments. பாட்டும் நானே song also can be quoted as an example for this, apart from many other songs. Also there were more number of Close-up shots, including Songs, for Sivaji only, in the entire filmdom. Thus, Sivaji can be verily called as the unmatched Artist. V. GIRIPRASAD (69)
@@vgiriprasad3836 no one denies that Sivaji is an unique actor, but his acting does not represent some one from the public, rather it represents only Sivaji himself, as no such man lives among us. Do you understand this? There is a strong air of over acting both in action and tone of Sivaji, which all prove he can't represent any individual living in public....never. The case of PUC is different, as he doesn't do overacting, and he represents all the great singers of Karnatic music as he himself is the singer. This is the truth, you have to digest it even it is bit stronger.
In my life I have never seen anyone walking, talking, laughing and crying like Sivaji. And if anyone lives like that such person will be laughed at. Thus Sivaji represents an artificial, cinematic illusive character. PUC represents a real character possible to witness in life.
Sivaji is a glittering gem to entertain. PUC is a healthy tonic to the soul. That is the difference.

I am a fan of PUC more than any of you, being a Singer myself. With all modesty I wish to state that apart from my own voice, I can sing in different voices of various singers effortlessly exactly, right from PUC's voice. But I did not venture professionally due to so many family commitments, being the only Son among the siblings. Coming to central subject matter, I think you have not clearly understood about Sivaji. Your narrations were rather Amusing and exhibited lack of sufficient knowledge on your part about the Greatest Actor Sivaji Ganesan, in certain places ! Sivaji only brought before our eyes many Living personalities, with more accurate performance and Historical figures too, out of his wonderful imagination ! No other actor in the whole world ! Even veteran actor Mammotty quoted on the above lines while talking about Sivaji. But, Cinema is Not just meant to always view Real-life characters alone you are seeing daily. Such kind of monotony and stereotypes cannot be tolerated by all. In fact, you need not view a film if you are so particular about the so-called Realism on screen too. That boredom cannot be digested by many, but for a few people of your mindset. However, Sivaji only undoubtedly portrayed real-life characters more effectively than any other actor you intend to quote. An Actor has to satisfy all classes of audience of varied tastes. In that respect, Respected Sivaji Ganesan can be deemed as a Complete Actor and 8th Wonder of the World, as aptly described by veteran actor Mohanlal ! Moreover, Acting itself is portraying life incidents artistically. Otherwise, we need not go to a theatre or view TV and can just talk/interact with each other by simply relaxing at home and attain satisfaction. I wonder whether any people are prepared to remain like that ! Is BGM (a must for Cinema/TV) a part of your real life accompanying you whenever you are talking or wherever you are going ? Can an individual Fight with more than two people in real life ? Whether couple/lovers are Dancing in Parks in real life ? Are you prepared to forego such exaggerated and most Unreal versions while viewing a Cinema ? (But, it is surprising that a 1954 Sivaji Starrer titled ANDHA NAAL was such a film without Songs, without Dance and without even a single Fight scene too !) You made a trial to become a Philosopher at the end of your text ! You should first clearly understand that Soul is self-contained/self-effulgent and it does not require any Tonic at all ! You cannot/need not give anything to Soul and also nobody can make any alteration concerning Soul. Soul is independent of everything ! However, materialistically a Glittering Gem will make everyone Happy due to its Shine even from reasonably a long distance. It won't lose its Value at any cost wherever it remains. It won't perish. It is immaterial whether you possess it or not. Acting is an Art form and there is room for exaggerated versions too, if you think so. Art of Acting has a wide platform for all kinds of performance and so-called Realism is nothing but just one aspect among them. Nobody can digest boredom if it goes beyond certain level. After all people go in search of happiness and seek some entertainment to escape from the clutches of real life problems. I wish to conclude by extending my appreciation for your vocabulary and sound English knowledge, which were quite enjoyable, despite the difference of views persists between us on Great Entertainer Dr.Sivaji Ganesan. This was the foundation for the Paattum Naane scene of Sivaji. But Sivaji did only acting, but PUC did acting, singing, konnakkol everything so fantastically. After seeing this Sivaji looks dim before PUC....I can't deny this fact.
But, also there is no denial of the fact that Sivaji attained Post-Graduation and then Ph.D. in Lip movements for Lyrics, Ragas/ expressions in handling three different
musical instruments (not done in veteran PUC's song), creating an impression as if he (Sivaji) only sang the song and not a different Singer/Konnokol expert. Also heartfelt appreciation to be extended to Sivaji's acting, who created the magic as to whether he (Sivaji) only played all the instruments and not the respective musicians, thereby becoming the sole authority for the song, through his wonderful acting ! A Giant Superstar will look dim from looking at a distance, in this vast Cosmos. But actually it is several times greater than Sun, which is also a star. V.GIRIPRASAD (70)

Vembar Manivannan, Thank you very much for uploading this gem from the past. P.U.Chinnappa was a Versatile actor and singer, in the Thirties until 1951, when he passed away at just 35 years! - A big loss, no doubt to the Tamil Cinema.
This technique of showing multiple images of a single actor, is the First Pioneering effort in this Film. Similar imaging can be seen in later Films:
in Krishna Vijayam with Narasimma Bharathy as Krishna and T.M.Soundararajan singing his first Playback song on Films- Radhe nee ennai vittu pokathedi;
and in Thiruvilayadal with Sivaji Ganesan acting for the song Paattum Naane with TMS again singing the song (playback).
