At 2:06 she is facing two doors.
Left door is Earth, right door is Mars.
She chose Mars.
You can see this symbolism with the colors in these two rooms... and the choice she made here is reflecting her destiny.
Yeah thats what I was thinking
yea, that scene was beautiful
Nice observation.
Yeah, we saw the video.
i didn't even think of that
I wanna be like that old man one day. Just being awesome and helping out the neighbor kids.
Nerfin Merfitt let's hope nobody gets the wrong idea
What would the wrong idea be? The old guy was awesome and very helpful.
Nerfin Merfitt just that most people would think this guys is a creep with bad ideas for this kid
Not necessarily.
WTF is a euro-American?
Smiling like a stupid during the last minutes, shed a couple of tears in the end. Nailed it, guys.
Charly Mayaud yeah, me too...darn thing gets you right in the feels.
what the hell me too
distroller
Still gets me...and I've watched this film at least 30 times!
This touched me so deep. I'm not a rich guy and I'm certainly don't have the best lifestyle but when I think of space, of the stars and beyond. I'm at ease and everything goes away. Different planets, Different solar systems, how vast everything is and everything that is out there just waiting. This made me tear up because I haven't had much of a teenage life and like this girl in the show I haven't found my place yet and I hope I do. I feel like my place is out there among the stars and sadly I can't reach them. At least not yet. nonetheless. This show looks fantastic and I'm definitely willing to give it a go.
cool
Of ALL National Georgraphic documentaries, THIS needs to be available beyond the USA. Every kid, every teen, every young adult needs the inspiration to be there in 2033 or after to take part in this endeavour.
Every country with a FOX NG provider can watch "Mars" and the documentaries, it's pretty much worldwide not only in the USA.
Ive had the inspiration for years, I'm just so shit at school I'll never get the chance :/
HeiiWat ,JoeAnim IDN. everything in life is about efforts its not about how much intelligence or "scientific mind" you have that matters in fact that is totally irellevant as your brain will adapt. you may not be good at math or science but it does not matter . what is important is how dedicated you are. you can acheive anything you want in life ( including world domination if that is what you want) you only have to be ready to put the effort into it and with enough efforts and perseverance you will achieve your goals. you and ""mabe even me (i hope)** live in an age where very little is impossible and very possibly an age where public space travel will be possible. i have had the dream of going to space since i was 10 i have asthma , got refused by the military my chances are next to none ... i still keep fait and hope . if not i think my last wishes would be for my ashes to be sent into space. but one day we will get there if we keep hope and stride towards our goals .
2:06 She stands before two rooms. The colors of the rooms are blue and red, representing Earth and Mars respectively. Pretty neat!
They can also be Mass Effect 3 endings... Sigh* PTSD... T-T
Dont forget to take enough potatos
very underrated comment, you will have my up vote!
fellow 9gager, i see!
And enough crew members for more poo poo!
hiding in plain sight.. now we need to invent a secret message like illuminati greeting in public
I'll remember to pack the disco music
This is like a really long duracell commercial
Matthew W you win! This was hands down the funniest comment I've read throughout this whole feed. Thank you good sir
Matthew W how so?
Yulian Dolan really? do we hsve to explain it? then it wouldnt be as funny
Matthew W long ass
cause the radios batteries still workin
As an Asian American female, I have to say it's just really nice to see a story centered around these girls who will grow up to be involved in such an important chapter of human history. No dependency on stereotypes, just them being people with hopes and aspirations like any other person.
+deagleninja turn on the caption
Why do you have to say this as an asian american? We're all human, and I can relate to these kids even though I don't look like them or share their "heritage".
Nimos Nael Because you don't often see stories centered around people who look like this over here. Of course we're all human and of course you should be able to relate to any character regardless of physical appearance or any other difference. I relate to other characters even if they don't look like me, but I appreciate it when we're given some representation. There's no denying media has a big influence on people's perceptions.
and actually laika was not the first ... it was the first to survive ;-)
@@lurategh I wasn't so lucky. I hope you're out there flying among the stars!
The radio is a SONY ICF 5900W a short wave radio receiver. Good radio from late 1970s, weighted a ton.
Geoffrey Lee wait. if its just a receiver, how was she talking to NA1SS?
The prop department modified the case with a microphone jack and added the even older microphone.
Geoffrey Lee u guys are really old
"a ton" whut...
why would it not ?
I just has a tear jerking moment right there 30:30
2:05 That symbolism though...
Matthew Bartlett Earth/Mars :)
She chose Mars.
I saw the same thing..
I missed it the first time I watched this, thanks for pointing it out. :)
Wow I missed that!!! Thanks.
If my sister threw away my lunch like that I'd be pissed af
Also what is this? 1965? If someone took a picture of me using a radio like that it would instantly be my profile picture.
SAME. As soon as I saw that photo on the locker, I was thinking "Yo that's a pretty sick picture."
BlueHawkPictures amen to that brotha
BlueHawkPictures what she threw away was kimchi-laden lunch boxes.... You have no idea how much kimchi smells when it's not refrigerated.... So I can totally empathise...
kristy park Yes I do actually. I dunno why you would assume I don't. I'd still be so hungry tho lol
This is one of the best short stories I see great work
sidney berry sr , why you lying like that Holmes
Why you ask, Watson?
this brought me to tears. we live in revolutionary times. =)
Almost brought me to tears too mate! What a wonderful reason to cry. Here is to space and making it our home one day.
Yup, shedding a few tears over here :) Beautiful example of how it is worth putting effort into inspiring kids.
lalalalalulululu i hope to one day inspire my future kids to get involved in space and stuff. It's the next big thing lol
same......
30:44
That part made cry because that's how I feel all the time. I never felt I belong here ever....
Goodwine
All I need is to stop analysing everything, to stop thinking about what I have to say when people ask me about this and that before I even meet them and to take control of my thoughts, feelling terrified about people's judgements, how they look at me and what they're gonna ask to the point I bearly leave my house...
I just want to be normal but the type of people I HAD to deal with every single day are making it harder for me to be me and stop worrying about almost everything.
Thank you for your comment. Have an amazing day 💛
Learning to be present in the moment would be helpful, but only one part of it. I know the struggle. Are you familiar with Myers-Briggs personality typing, because you sound like INFJ, which I am myself. If not INFJ, perhaps INFP. Groups of similar minds exist on facebook, reddit, etc. so you can find people just like yourself and get insight and help to reach your amazing potential. Let me know if I can help.

Thank you so much for caring but my present moment is so aweful so is my past. There's so much going on and I have no one to talk to because it's personal. And because I've manipulated and lied to so many time now I can't trust no one so I'm stuck :"(... I really need help. I need to runaway. I just want to be happy that's all I want.. INFJ do they have a CZcams Channel?
You know, I don't know your situation but I think I kind of experienced something like that. You have to stop caring about people that damage you and the change will come almost automatically, if and only if you do your part as well.
Ricardo F It's not that easy when youvlive with them. And also not easy when you have no way to go..
I HAD to choose between two horrible options and I had to pick and here I am today still suffering from something I had no control of. I am strong believe me. I have been throught so much since I was a child but I can't live like this anymore. I need a way out but no one is there for me EVER....
this touched my inner childhood. I was like her once. But things happened :(
Love the room colors and the subconscious choice to go with the Mars color over the Earth color. Neat.
Nolan Milnes I noticed that too! Pretty smart, right?
Chaitraj Yadav Very good film!
I really loved that part too.
What room colors?
maixck
when they first arrive at the house and are bringing boxes in, Hanna’s Mom tells her to take the box to her room, she goes up the stairs and for a moment she stands in front of two rooms, on the left the room is blue or green and on the right its rusty red. Hanna hesitates for a moment then walks into the red room.
That is the coolest kid on the planet!
So loved watching this. can't wait for the series.

also i think the woman aka november alpha bla bla was the daughter of the old man
Me too
His Daughter was the waitress in the diner. When he speaks for the first time, she walks over to him and says " here Dad, dont forget to take these."
he could have 2 daughters...
attecker very true, but sadly the story never confirms this.
Today is Diwali Here In India, one of the biggest Indian festivals I'm supposed to be outside meeting relatives and friends, but all I needed to make my diwali special was to watch this Video, truly one of the best videos I've watched this year, I could totally relate to this, such an inspiring video, I'm definitely not going to forget this feeling for a while, glad Nat Geo made this series. #getyourasstoMARS
Please watch Living Waters on CZcams
2:01 A choice may be as simple as going left or going right.
mind blown
Yay, I got likes, that means people understand my reference! :D
Antichamber ?
Indeed!
"I'm becoming a weird kid at school."
"You know who is weird? Einstein was weird, Picasso, Mozart. A bunch of weirdos... You may not see it now, but one day, when you look back, you'll be grateful for being weird."
According to that order, Mozart might be the third season of Genius!
English Tea so was Solomon Epstein
My siblings call me annoying (joke)
This is why I'm going to ASU for Planetary Science and a minor in Geo Physics rather than pursuing a degree in Astronomy. I always thought to myself, "I'd love to have been born in the 1930's so I could've been the perfect age to work for NASA in the 60's and 70's."
But then a few years ago I heard of NASA's planned manned mission to Mars in the 2030's. I'm 24 currently.
I don't have the expectation to be on Mars, but I hope to be apart of that team. Even if I fail, I will die knowing that I tried.
That's truly great!
This was so friggin inspiring cannot wait to start my astrophysics course in my first year of uni!
Make sure to include electric engineering!
how did u know?
You will Soon too ;)
little bitches get inspired by these soft things. grow up and become a russian businessman, pay for 10 of these fucking rockets and have a vacation on mars
Im in My second year of Electrical engineering. Would be a dream come true to work with anything space related
That was beautiful
Yeah the korean girl is beautiful. I wanna her to be my girfriend.
@@conquergravity2525 impresionante. Jajajajaja
wow...the prequel itself was so touching.....almost forgot there is a series coming up..
This is dope.
NG is such an amazing company.
motivated me to do my homework and study for some reason lol
watching this instead of studying tho...
Will Simmons
stuff that I would rather explore the Universe
this was great but KIDS, please don't ever go hiking by yourself like hannah did. 9 times out of 10 you'll be just fine, but if something goes wrong and people don't know where you are, you could end up in real danger. be safe. always tell people where you're going and when you expect to be back and again, please don't go alone.
I'm 14 and I want to go to mars one day (:
You can!
All you need is 2 PHD's in Physics and Engineering, a Masters in biochemistry, 5000 hours of test figher-pilot experience, a perfect medical condition with no previous record of: Asthma, diabetes, heart issues, etc. etc., perfect 20/20 vision, with a mind that is perfectly stable under all kinds of pressure, be of American nationality, go through top-secret level security clearance, have 350 excellent references (ideally workers/other astronauts who previously worked at NASA) and the stubbornness of applying again and again, after going through a countless number of rejections prior-hand :)
... And that is barely a joke.
Leon Campa Stop crushing my dreams :(
Or you can just wait a few decades and buy a ticket for 300k to SpaceX :D
Pay? Money?
Dreams remains crushed
+Leon Campa I'm not gonna be a dumbass and be the first people on there . I'm going in 40 years prob or 30 when things are all sorted out
This hit me right in the feels
Do you ever see how comment sections of science and music are always united? No one talks about how one country is better than another? THIS is what we need as a human race. The politics divides us. It brings in nationalism, Racism, religion when none of them even matters to the mankind. I hope we elect better world leaders who wish to co-operate and live as one rather than racists and nationalists who play dirty politics and divide us. We have almost reached Mars and still stuck in ugly politics.
Nice! I have the same thoughts.
Division brings in uncertainty in politics it can be used to gain support or lose support. All what we want will not be able to be achieved cus sadly many disagree with unity...
Kåre Hansen nah, people want peace. Politicians make people hate others solely for political purposes. Sad but true. Politics divides, Science unites.
divide and conquer .
this was much better than i expected.
best short film ever!!!!!!!!
Ever thought that the astronaut on the ISS could also be the old man's daughter?
He did mention that his daughter also had problems fitting in. :O
his daughter was the waitress at the diner. like she even called him dad.
HAHAHA! Viggo. Good one!
yeah, like the daughter talked to hannah from the diner, through the radio
Yes, but remember the astronaut saying that she misses her mother and of her sister at around 31.14 or 31.15. This would suggest that she does have a sister and that sister is probably the waitress.
Hilmi Nugroho lmao
till this day natgeo still got the best cameras
Man that show is gonna be epic...
Right, especially while they cross the van allen belts! Do you think they will broadcast that Live on World Wide TV?
lol :D It`s not an actual LIFE thing .Its a documentary sort of.. sci fy thing :)
+Kiko_88 it will happen in 2033
or earlier if elon musk will succeed.
2060
I don't know what is about this 'Man Of Steel' mood, that just make everything better.
This is actually a show about the dangerous trap that is vintage electronics, once you start you never go back.
I've fallen victim of this, so agreed on this PSA.
It will change your life forever..i'm one of them...
This hit me right in the feels.
was this made for 90s kids? cause it seems so 90s lol
reading your comment makes me feel old
I think more likely it was made *by* 90s kids; which makes me sympathize with Zelda.
We are the ones that are beggining to have the power to change things, so it's the proper audience. Your generation will be sent to mars by us.
Link The Hero of Time I look a lot like Ganon some mornings if that helps.
vaids nosmi 90s were the shit
FUCK IM CRYING NOW
I love the way most of the men and boys are portrayed in this vid.
I didn't really see many.
Wait, what do you mean? Like David pointed out, there aren't that many (really aren't a lot of characters over all). There's the grumpy kid in school, there's the old wise guy and there's like a dude running a thrift store? How do you mean they're "portrayed"?
G8gleTookMyAccount
Really?
Who's the very first male you see in this vid? What is he shown doing? What's her reaction?
*EVERY* male shown in this vid right up to the introduction of the old man.
And, of course, at the end when our heroine achieves her goal- the astronaut talks about what's important to her; her family. *Who* in her family does she think about? Or, more tellingly, who *doesn't* she think about?
She didn't have a father figure, so why would she think about him?
David Bergara - Gonzalez Convenient that she didn't have a brother either, huh?
I stumbled across this Series because Vsace promoted it and if the show can get one of those goosebump-moments per episode I'll be sure to watch it!
Just wow, such a great pilot so inspirational and inspiring. I hope my daughter will find inspiration to pursue science and the thoughtful exploration of the universe.
I cried when the old man got a response to the question he tough would last his whole life.
Thank i god im still really young so i can live in mars when im 53
That should be exciting. What's up with all these people with their mediocre mindset?
Oh finally nat geo is putting out entire episodes instead of tiny 2 min videos
From nature to space. National Geographic brings slice of life.
This is a really well written. Wish they had the VOD service.
anyone else cried...? :'
Yup, got me gud :)
People doing/being inspired towards space stuff always does it for me. Nothing else, just space stuff.
Space fetishist.
This is what life is all about curiousness and a wild adventure to find a place called HOME. (I have tears in my eyes wonderful series).
Dear Lord above my hype level cannot be any higher!!!
What a beautiful backstory, had me quite emotional to be honest. A kid, all alone, shaping her dream, taking the first baby steps to her destiny. Just beautiful. Can't wait untill November 14th :) :)
I love her already, I wish I had seen that as a teenager :)
This is literally the best thing ever!
I miss this show . IN THE BEGINNING IT WAS SO EXCITING .
I hate it when ppl start chopping onions by the end.
dem those ninja chopping onion
WickedlNl haha 😂 I'm all watery eyed! Then I read your comment. 👍👍👍
BOI✋✋✋
Wow... just.... wow. I am 14 and I want to be there someday. This is easily the most inspiring film clip I have watched, ever.
I criedied, I loved every moment of it. This has inspired me to not kill myself and reminded me WHY and WHAT I want to be. Spread the love for the unknown, spread the love.
Just beautiful, this series is the best thing this year so far!
Awesome movie. This is what I have tried to do for around two years, unsuccessfully so far. I have lots of videos of me listening to the ISS talking to schools as well as me talking to other hams through amateur radio satellites.
73, John Brier KG4AKV
Space Comms too bad they couldnt find a legal way in the story for her to talk to NA1SS, but it was very inspirational nonetheless.
KI4FWB
Yeah, that would have been nice. I guess it's hard to do that in 30 minutes.
Nah, I think it's better this way. A little rebellious fun. It's what makes for a cute story.
MAKE MARS GREAT AGAIN!!!
We should send Trump to Mars. He can be orange with his own kind then :v
I think Donald Trump kicked out all aliens immigrants from Mars.... XD
Farhad Hossain Make the earthlings pay for it!
Okay but, Hana, June, and the babysitter are seriously beautiful.
This was very moving for me. When I was younger I convinced my boss to put up a big antenna on the roof so we could talk to astronauts. I told him it was for publicity, but it was really because i just wanted to talk to them. I was testing the whole setup one time, the first time I ever tried to transmit. Susan Helms came back to talk to me, it was around 5/2000 so it must have been the ten day sts 101 mission. I was totally shocked because I didn't expect someone to come back that easily the first time. I didn't know what to say. My call sign is W2RY, at the time it was KB2NOQ so if someone at NASA looks it up, I'd love to get a QSL card.
that rocket aint goin nowhere without Matt Damon
Wow, probably the coolest thing i've watched in years, pulled some heatstrings.
Only 5k views. Please share it on social media. This deserves to be sean by many. I love it. Good work.
I truly miss this show! Still hopeful for Season 3 to come soon!
It was cancelled a long time ago. I was hoping for one too, but close to zero chance that it's going to be picked up again.
Hey Natgeo! Thank you for putting this and all of your other videos on CZcams for all of us to enjoy. This was a wonderful short, and Before the Flood was incredible too!
Plot twist: The astronaut with whom Hana speaks is herself from the future... :P
This isn't interstellar, that's MARS
Damn... I was crying at the end... waiting for more of this moments in the series ;)
a feeling is even less than a fraction of a second. The feeling inspired by this video will not last even in my lifetime. I am lost in the sea of stimulus as usual, too afraid to see, too excited to hear, too sad to think. My perspective changes a bit more slowly than my emotions. I may not find what i wanted, but let this be my record.
deagleninja was it a good fart?
I just can't understand why us as a species instead of spending, money, resources and time into waging wars and/or oppress each others we can't just all focus on one of our basic human instinct which is to explore and discover the unknown.
Everyone loves exploring, but it's more expensive than curing freaking cancer. Stupid cancer
because divided we are easier to control. those who oppress others are too dumb to understand they are being manipulated those who are oppressed are too ignorant to see they are being manipulated ( both tru oppression and social engineering ) religious leaders , tyrants, liberals, governments , syndicates , social groups etc are all oppressors . their opponents the oppressed . the human kind has a lot of travel to do evolution wise to actually be intelligent. a few like me are less ignorant or dumb but we are all still ignorant and dumb.
Right in the feels. Lets go to Mars!
2:47 "I wanna see what's up there." Amazing !!!
This is so beautiful, the cinematography, the music, the concept, just everything, this is legit better than most Hollywood movies that came out in 2017
This reminds me of the film Contact (1997), loved that movie and this is quite close to it just a bit more realistic. I'm just an artist and to me astronomy is so magical, at times it's beyond my comprehension that the way it can make you feel empowered and still make you feel so tiny and worthless in the bigger picture...
I found myself in the same situation sometime, one of the best ever
Wow I did NOT expect I'd tear up by the end of this.
this was amazing. more pls.
This is absolutely phenomenal. I love it.
If this short is an indication of how the rest of the series will be, it should be really good. Nice symbolism of the room colours. And the contact to the ISS - and using the right call sign too, pretty awesome. :)
6:30 dayum that kids savage. Yes the one in the blue. With the lunch box
nothing is impossible, dedication makes a person achieve that thing which he/she perceives. The adventure of Hana is very much inspriring, the world which she sees is different from the real one.
amazing video :) can't wait for the series
I'm totally inspired by this short film...
Moral of the story: Buy your kids cell phones or else they'll have to resort to Hamm radio
I will not buy cellphone to my kid until reach 18
I'm so happy to see the media influence finally being used for something of which I approve
Inspirational stuff. Encourage future generations to become scientist and engineers!
National Geographic increasingly better. Thank you for bringing these incredible videos!
The music was really perfect in this, It really captured the essence of Awe and exploration to me.
this should be shawn to every child who are the "weirds" at school and don't believe in themselves enough because of others. This is very inspiring !
I can totally relate to Hana, nice job NatGeo!
The NA1SS Is a real amateur radio station on the ISS. Frequencies are 145.800Mhz and 145.825Mhz FM.
When I was a kid, begin an astronaut was one of my dream. I've done a lot of things such as painting the solar system, read books about space and anything that a kid could think of. and then time passed by. I started to perceive that is somewhat impossible and then I started to forget about it. But after watching this video, when the astronaut responded to Hana, I just got an tear in the eyes. I was so grateful for her. I think that if I become a dad in the future, I would support my son/daughter to pursue their dream in every ways.
I would watch a series purely for the acting skills and setting off the two girls and Albert
