    "We should not wait until all of the problems on Earth have been solved
    before we go to Mars or further explore the solar system. There will
    always be problems on Earth, and there will be problems on Mars and in
    space as well. The skills and knowledge we gain solving the considerable
    technical challenge of settling the most inhospitable environments will
    be essential to solving problems on Earth in the future. Progress
    happens and society benefits when we push the limits of what is
    possible."
    If we as a species can work towards towards a common
    goal, we could thrive in a new age of exploration as a post-scarcity
    civilization. Endless abundance of resources are out there, we only need to get to them.

      Ray: Terraforming is hardly "stupid" We can create greenhouse gasses - we already are here on earth. Yes, Mars will lose atmosphere due to solar radiation & lack of volcanic activity but we can periodically replenish the atmosphere using appropriate technology so it can also be done economically. It won't be terraforming in the sense of creating a 'second earth' but rather making it safer & more comfortable for people to live there!
      When we get to mars Ray do you think people want to live underground all the time? Wear a heavy protective spacesuit at all time (because of low atmospheric pressure & radiation)? Live (essentially) in a vacuum with all the related risks? Now THAT would be stupid! Mars will be 'terraformed' or otherwise 'transformed'. That is a guarantee Ray!

    Honestly the future will be with cloning and being able to "download" your consciousness from one body to another body. This would be much faster than sending a physical body to another planet or solar system. Imagine sending a genetically modified clone (the vats the machinery to grow it etc in a ship) to another solar system, where that body is perfectly adapted, and then uploading your consciousness into that body. You could theoretically travel at the speed that information could travel, instead of physically making the journey. Time and distance would be less relevant.

      This is how SpaceX fragment should look like.
      They show start and landing of ORBCOM mission. Than they say. "We expected 1/3 of landing attempts in 2016 to be successful. So far 2/3 of first stage boosters have been recovered intact". "We are not thinking about going to MARS any more. We are doing it".
      And now some motivation.
      "We as human kind have talked about going to other worlds for decades. Talk time is over. Now is the time to stand up and get to work". "There are many challenges and issues that need to be worked on and we can not do everything, but we can do something". "We'll give you ships. Not one and not two but a hundred of them. You have 10 years."
      I wonder how public opinion worldwide would react to announcement like this.

    • @marsedenproject623
      @marsedenproject623 Před 7 lety +5

      + Aaron Inman
      Because Musk primary rocket stage never went through the re-entry phase, it was not design to. It was design to be more like an artilery shell launch from one location and landing in another pre-determine location base on it trajectory calculation. It is design to launch and re-land back on Earth, not on Mars. This is very different then when you have an object traveling at great speed from one planet to another.
      In this case, the object has to go through a re-entry phase, using the atmosphere to slow it down so that the gravity of Mars can pull it into Mars. But the re-entry phase cause a lost of control over where the ship will land. Like a rock skipping and bouncing on a pond of water, it's hard to control where it will stop and sink to the bottom. This is showcase on Nat Geo Mars series, episode 1.
      If you want to know more about re-entry, visit our channel. There's a section on this topic.

    Keeping Mars out of equilibrium requires a constant supply of energy, that's ultimately the biggest problem, but it's possible that in the far future people will find ways to harness enormous amounts of energy, maybe from the sun or nuclear energy, so that bumping mars with the energy it needs for thousands of years is not a problem at all, they can keep it totally terraformed for such long periods of time.

    • @michaelflynn6952
      @michaelflynn6952 Před 7 lety

      I mean... while this is true, you can't just look at everything through macro thermodynamics. The main issue would be that to terraform Mars, we would need to somehow pipe a significant fraction of Earth to it, which is not sensible.

    Finally a critique of the idea that we should/could terraform mars. Personally I think we would be better off creating a network of self contained habitats underground. We could regulate light, temperature, atmospheric pressure etc much easier, and sustainably, with the only ongoing inputs coming from solar panels on the surface. It's not that I think that we should never do it, more that it would be a wasted effort for the foreseeable future.

      Billions of $$$$ has already been spent but no actual energy producing power plant is ready for market yet. More energy is being used to create hardly any energy return. It's going to take centuries before we get viable Fusion Energy Plant economically. But you never know they may surprise us. By-the-way Bill Gates and his Foundation is funding research on this so don't give up hope.

  • @rayagoldendropofsun397

    They should first experiment with earth deserts making them green with vegies. If successful they could then take it to Mars. Earth deserts are rapidly expanding from lack of vegetation , but there has to be an underlying cause why vegetation keep dying , one case could be that earth's red hot core is sucking out the moisture from those regions leaving them bare, knowing that earth's core is powered by ocean water to stay alive.

    I can see setting a base up on Mars, but wouldn’t we want to set up a colony in a different Solar System? One reason would be if the sun stars dying out we could hopefully move back and if Earths sun starts to die, would could send as many people as we could to the new colony. Most would be either childhood geniuses or young scientists, engineers, botanists, or people that could help mankind, unless we have a way to freeze people safely by then.
    But in then event of any cosmic catastrophe the more colonies we have the more chance we have to keep our species alive. Not to mention what we learn on one colony may improve others colonies as well.

      To answer your question:Fate changes eveyday through the butterfly effect.An asteroid could hit mars in the north pole sublimate all the dry ice and terraform him tommorow,although its higly unlikely it may happen.
