I use a 4k 40" curved TV from Samsung for many years. Never go Back... ❤️
I just got a 43" 4K monitor to replace a 32" curved ultra wide and two 27" flats. Having it all in one big monitor is so much better.
This is why I have 3 monitors. 1 55 inch 4k TV. 1 49 inch super ultra wide and a 28 inch 1080p touch screen. Works great
New drinking game. Every time Barry says “real estate”, you have to take a shot.
I was looking at the same monitor recently. Thanks for the video, Barry!
You have to shout “Free Real Estate” before you take a shot.
Been using one of these (a Samsung) for a few months now in my studio, love it, wouldn’t go back to anything smaller. Of course I ensured the room eq was adjusted just in case, with a Sonarworks session
I bought a 43” TCL 4K for $250 on Amazon to use for music production. It’s been nothing but great! Seems to be the perfect size.
I got that same one in my studio in the back wall! My recent video here on CZcams you can see the TV on the back. Behind the monitors so it doesn't affect my stereo image of the studio monitores 🔥
Do you think a 65 inch 4K would work ?
@@Fogsnake I don’t see why not but you wouldn’t want it too close to you.
@@FogsnakeI have an LG 65" 4K TV
that I use for watching movies. I connected my music production PC to it to see what it looked like. It was outstanding and the amount of tracks and plugins I could fit on the screen was mind blowing. I could never use it for this purpose though as my room layout doesn't allow me to sit far enough away from it. If you have the space do it.
I have to 50inch Vizio not 4k but i can at least see what im doing. Im 56 gonna be 57 im like mr magoo... good video.. gonna look at 4k next
Agree with the benefits of a larger monitor. I just bought a used 32" 1440 Samsung for $125 and my work flow became way easier. Only issue is text can be a little blurry so I increase the zoom factor in my word processor. Also agree that the laptop monitor is the only way to go for color correction. BUT spreading out your DAW with more screen-estate is a game changer.
Would love a video on testing real world audio/DAW performance with your monitor non-scaled at 4k vs scaled to 1440p. Most people scale their 4k but ive never known how much of a performance hit it really would be for audio.
I was able to get a Vizio 40 inch on sale for $229. The TV speakers are crap but it has one of the BEST 4k pictures you can find on a budget TV! I wasn't concerned with the speakers because the sound would be routed to my studio speakers. I actually did a short review. It is on my channel.
I've had 43" monitor for over 6 years. I am on a 43" LG 4K purchased for $300.00 It's crystal clear.
@@levondarratt787 Thanks! I will look into it.
Do you think I could go 4K 65 inch ?
@@Fogsnake Absolutely! Just make sure it's not too close to you.
@@imaginarytube I have a mac with a wireless mouse am keyboard so I think I can make it. What distance do you think I should sit ? Also, the tv is on my desk ( pretty long desk ) and I’ll have my monitors at the right and left of the desk sitting on monitor desks. Is this optimal for the acoustics ?
@@Fogsnake for 65" monitor, between 5 and 7.5 feet
I have a 4K screen in my studio and I found everything to be too small. I run mine at 1440 and it's great.
I just got a 4k Sony 65” to use with bitwig. It’s a dream. Not sure if other daws can do this but it shows 3 displays at a time so I can have a large arrangement window, a large edit window, and a metering window across the whole screen up top where I have to look up, just cuz it looks cool. This replaced two 32” screens which was nice but I hate scrolling around to see my project. This helps a lot

Looks like something I could copy... Do you have any screenshots to share? From what distance do you work? //
@@magnusstromwall4374 I am about 4' from the screen
I am on the same road ( 65 inch ) does it hamper your room acoustic ? Can you tell us where exactly do you put your tv ? I have a large desk where the tv is on, and monitor stands at each side, is there any recommandation ? Btw it’s my bedroom I have the bed facing the desk and the tv, and at the left of the bed ( when you’re laying on it ) I have a space with a carpet and mics guitars etc …
I mounted the tv on the wall and my speakers are set slightly in front of the tv but I can still see the whole screen
Hello, Barry! Wanted to thank you for the advice you give on your channel, it certainly has given me some insight on recording. Anyways, after watching this video I too bit the bullet and bought the 32 inch version of this monitor and it's amazing.
Thanks 🙏 trying to choose a new screen now for my new house, previously worked with a huge 4k tv but it was a bit too big and now I thought of going back to a small desk monitor. But most important to me is eye care.. since mine got so bad.. and I think further away is always better. So I’ll probably go with your advise here and get a 43’ 4k tv, hang it on the wall like before.. graphics on the MacBook screen 🎉
With a 43 inch monitor you really do have a lot of room. 43 inches is a good size for 4K because you do not have to scale text.
Oh snap! We love that Gibson, now your talking🤗. Please don't say you put that thru a Amp simulator plugin😏
Barry one quick tip about display scaling in MacOS if you use anything other than the default option or the native option you will lose 33% of your GPU's power, so keep that in mind when using video editing software like Resolve or Final Cut ect. Scaling won't have much of an impact on audio software and DAWs but it will slow down your render times for video software. This has been tested numerous time since Apple introduced the Retina scaling API 10 or 12 years ago. So if you are using NLE Video editing software set your display to the default scaling or to the Native 3840x2160 depending on which you prefer. That is why it says scaled display may impact performance. Video editors have pulled their hair out with apple over this for years now but just keep that in mind. Congrats on the new Monitor.
I have not noticed any of that so far and this video had 6 4k MultiCam streams. Maybe that’s due to the power of Apple Silicon I don’t know. I use FCP. Thanks for the support!
@@levondarratt787 It is if you use Retina scaling so if your monitors are 4K or above the scaling works the GPU harder when you use non-native or non default scaling. Here is a test for you to show how much of an issue it could be. If you have a Mac and a 4k screen just set the Display to 2560x1440 in the retina scaling options. Now record the screen it will be 4096x2304 and only record at an average of 40FPS but if you use the recommended setting or the native resolution it will records at 3840x2160 at a constant 60fps. Sure you can have multiple displays at any resolution you like. The issue is with GPU heavy software such as video editing. Using out of balance display scaling will cause up to 33% longer render times on both Intel Macs and Apple Silicon. So what I was saying is if you render a video and experience slow downs it. If you are using accelerated codec such as Pro Res or HEVC which can take advantage of the media engine FPGA on the new Apple Silicon you will see less of an issue during editing but render times will be still be slower than if you set your displays to the correct resolution before the render. Now in the grand scheme of things is it a big deal. Not really if you are making short form content under 30 minutes, the new machines are fast, I'm typing this on a 16 inch M1 Max Macbook Pro and its the best laptop I have ever owned. But for longer renders such as harder to work with codecs like Canon Raw or some LONG GOP and 10 bit HDR even BlackMagic RAW you will see slower render times. But like I said if you do mostly audio work it will have zero effect on a DAW but for NLE work it is a good thing to know if you have a deadline to meet and time is money or experience a slow down due to a new camera codec.
I wonder if looking at a tv all the day will do damage to your sight. Thank you Barry another great video.
Well then Netflix is gonna make me blind😁

LG A1 in my studio 48"
Great video. I just ordered the LG 43" becuase it's an IPS monitor and I really wasnt any smart features they just make things more complex. I'll never use them. Can't wait to get it and hook up that mammoth monitor. I think it will be about 3.5ft away. Hopefully that's not too close. I have 34" and would like more vertical space.
Samsung has an updated version that came out this year, the M8. I had the same issue but I didnt need 4k so I opted for the 2 Samsung M5 32" monitors. Perfect setup for me.
Looks killer to me. Great value!
I have been using TVs for years. I need to upgrade to 4K.
I just got a 55 inch lg oled for my studio build.
Do tou put it behind your monitors ?
@@Fogsnake Dude. My whole wall with that tv is an acoustic panel. Rockwool based . 100 percent coverage and double depth on the sides of it. I have good measurements and room correction going on from my mixer. I’m good. What would be idiotic is to have it off to the side or something. lol. I also have clouds that are 8 inches thick above me. All first reflections covered except my sit stand desk . Sorry I like to see wtf I’m doing 😆. Always a guy on here.
Do you think that this screen monitor size is suitable for a room 4 meters + 4 meters considering viewing distance from monitor?
Thank you!
Good take! Sometimes there are cheaper 53-inch 4K TVs than a 32-inch 4K monitor. If you're not doing video/image editing on that then just go for the TV.
See that was also what I was wondering. When I concert my laptop to my home 4k TV it didn’t go well.
@@BarryJohns must be some apple thing. I don't have a mac so I can't really say but it might be because the apple displays have a different resolution and scale compared to standard TVs and PCs which might be causing an issue. One other possibility is the connection itself. Maybe the TV doesn't support USB-C lightning to HDMI or something.
@@levondarratt787 that really depends on the TV. I got a 4K TV here from 2014 and it's not what you described at all.
@@levondarratt787 That’s what held me off for so long, I’ve taken about every approach, to try to sort it out to get the best and most enjoyable viewing possible. I’m so glad I found this particular monitor, even though it’s flawed, for his price it’s been invaluable to me so far.
Look at the tcl series 6 tv so sick. For the money. Hisense to. Beautiful not getting lg c2 oled but dam good for the $
42 LG C2 is for me :)
Can I ask the group are most of the modern TV screens compatable with a Mac Studio … like the idea of a big monitor but just want to be sure if I get one would work with studio :-)
Any tips much appreciated
there are certain resolutions on certain monitors that will really slow down the Mac GPU performance for video editing. It is optimized only to certain scalings.
Not sure that as true how with Silicon. This video was 6 4k Multi Cam streams at the same time and didn’t notice a thing. Freezes right through it.
@@BarryJohns I was hoping you'd show how some non-resizeable plugins like Acustica Audio's Space Control fit into the screen. Mine always get some gui parts or button cropped out.
Thanks, it's helpful :)
We all work with monitors between our speakers these days but many times I wonder how much of an impact it has on sound and the stereo image. We want to see more and I have two of them in front me vertically but if I take them off I certainly listen to the difference. Maybe the next studio revolution to be sound absorbing or diffusing tv monitors… :)
I was/am concerned about making sure that nothing affects my Monitor placement compared to my studio monitors and having equal distance between the tweeters on both sides and my ears.
You got a lot of Character.
Thanks!
I JUST BOUGHT A 100" I THINK IS PRETTY BIG
Thinking about a bigger Monitor ..not Sure if its enhances my creativity??
It’s all about removing any obstacles, if screen size doesn’t affect you, not to worry.
I own a77x too don’t u think u have kept them way too close¿ Adam suggest at least 150cm distance
4k is definitely not a must or necessary. I don't think the big studios all have these screens. It's all down to personal taste and what works for you. Some have 4k, some don't. This doesn't stop one of making great music.
I think you missed the point of the video…..we all get to a point our eyes falter, 4k helps with a larger monitor.
Not sure what you meant or why you said stopping someone from making music.
If you meant It literally, then that’s pretty insensitive, as far as can it make a difference…..I mean my productivity increased a great deal due to my eyes.
Try to remember just because you see no value that’s doesn’t mean someone else doesn’t.
so I see no link ... so this a stand alone tv monitor? does it have to be hooked up to a CPU?
Great vid! Finding the right M1 monitor and/or using multpl. screens does seems a bit complicated. My main concern is that i want to see like 4 minutes of tracks in Logic Pro without havin to scroll or resize. I sit roughly 100 - 120 cm away due to my analog mixing console and as my hair (or lack of It) getting gray my eyes also needs bigger text and Icons on the screen as you mentioned... The problem with extra wide monitors is that although youre gettin all the track length you need on screen, youre short of height so you cant display any plug-ins and other useful stuff. So using a TV/monitor 16:9 as in your vid above is actually a pretty good idea for us a bit older guys. Another alternative is to use a separate monitor for the plug-ins and a wide for logic of course but thats another story... Can you monitor a decent track length on your set-up and also monitor some plug-ins without using binoculars? 🙂
Yes but you have to have a balance. An ultra wide monitor is also an option for you.
@@BarryJohns Tnx a million!!! Bought the M7 today, hooked It up to my M1. To make It (finally) work I downloaded SwitchResX (nice little free app :) and WOW, everything looks great through HDMI cable! Even from a 45-50” distance I can see whats going on in (max) 3840x2160 resolution. It displays both a full 3-4 minutes music production sideways and still get 1/4 free space to the right. Below theres also pretty much space left depending of number of tracks in Logic of course… The kinda blurrish Air Play isnt any option of course but how do I get the damn thing accept the USB-c to USB-c..? Do I need It? That doesnt seems to work though the M7 recognizes theres something connected..?
im torn between this and a ultrawide
I have 2 LG 43” monitors and love it
Where do you put your studio monitors?

@@BarryJohns This is how I have it today. Its hard to see from the other touch screen monitor I have on the synth station but they are on pedestals beside.
Take a shot every time he says "real estate".
What about me saying ok, that would get you drunk quick😂
Awesome idea Barry. Does being that close bother your eyes?
No, it’s great!!!!!!
Thanks Barry. What's the max refresh rate at 4k on that monitor?
Dunno about Barry's but my BU8000-43 runs at 50/60hz. Looks fantastic hooked up to an M1 Mac
I’ve been asked many time where did I find the monitor at that price, well it’s back on sale at Samsung. Not sure how long it will be on sale.

What about the PPI issue related to M1 resources when changing the screen resolution different than native?
I’ve can only speak to the monitor I have which has not been any issues whatsoever. The difference between my monitor vs a TV, is mike is a monitor than can be used as a TV or streaming. The issues you mention from what I understand is with some TV’s being used as a monitor. Make sense?
Barry, what is the Make & Model of that TV?
Where'd you get that deal?
Barry, im looking everywhere for this monitor, but the few that are available are around $500.00..... Who sells this at $335.00? I do see some 32” models for around that price but nothing in the 43” range.. I use a 2012 6 core PowerMac and really need a 43” screen but need to stay below $350.00 ... Anyone have recommendations for my older Mac?
Be patient, mine was very n sale direct from Samsung.
@@BarryJohns Okay Thanks👍
Hey Barry, do you have a link where you bought it? thanks
It comes on sale regularly, but I bought mine directly from Samsung when they had a sale.
Tempted by a LG C2, 55' go big or go home.
I use a airplay (sidecar or whatever they call it now) and a couple old iPads as well as my iMac and MacBook all in conjunction with each other. It’s a decent workaround because I can’t afford a big monitor yet 🥹
For me (50 years old) that tv is to Bright
It’s not at all for computer work. Video editing, a tad too bright. It has been nothing but amazing so far.
I miss the intro music 🤷🏾♂️
It’s supposed to be a short video, but that’s so hard for me😂
What model is the Screen? I’m think about getting one.
Samsung M70B
Gotta wait for it to go on sale if you want to get it that cheap though.
Mix with your ears, not your eyes
That’s kind of a given isn’t it, I mean it’s hard to edit with your ears.
This statement seems so misplaced concerning the topic of this video. You need to use your eyes to operate a computer. What is normally meant by that statement is don’t let meters and spectrum analyzers govern things like eq and compression choices. Lol.
“Look both ways before crossing the street. “😂
Sorry. I will retract that statement
Wow that's nice.
