When Roman says, "It needs a lift" that is the most American thing one can say !! LOL I spent my life in libraries before youtube and wikipedia. I often wonder how smart I would be if I had been able to access information from home instead of sleeping in the library overnight.
Before you open a door, just ask around, "Dai jou bu desuka?" Which means "Can I"? People will either say "Hai" , "Dozo" or "Dame" or "Ie". Hai=yes, Dozo=go ahead, Dame=bad, Ie=no
