    You can do this without a tool, Apply pressure to the part of the lens nearest the door and push the lens to the rear. It will come off. I just changed bulbs today.

    Thank you, our local Subaru dealership was trying to charge an arm and a leg to replace these housings on top of the cost of the OEM parts. With the help of the right tool, and a few moments of your time, you saved us almost 400 dollars.

    Great instructions. But even though you said “don’t forget to reattach the wire harness before reseating the taillight assembly” I forgot. Gave me another opportunity to practice! Thanks for the video!!

    FOR ANYBODY WATCHING YOU DO NOT NEED THE PLASTIC RED PIECE TO GET THE LIGHT ASSEMBLY OFF, A LITTLE FORCE THEY WILL SLIDE RIGHT OFF

    I used a 4 inch plastic putty knife to get under the tail light and pop it off rearward. It worked great. I used a 7443 long life miniature bulb for my break light and it works well. Thank you for the video!

    To get the taillight off don’t need the tool I used a plastic putty scraper

    I got mine off with a fair bit of prying with a body tool. Mine was not quite like the one he used. I had missed those comments that suggested just pushing the light assembly forward. It does look like it would come off in that way.
    My wires did not want to be unplugged. I was able to replace the bulb just fine without unplugging them.

    A strap, like that for securing a load, works well. Just slip it under the light assembly and gently pull aft.

    You forgot one very important point. It goes back on easier if you line up the black post beneath the bottom screw. Once you do that, it goes right on.

    The tool he uses is completely unnecessary and maybe even detrimental. The light slides onto the clip closest to the rear door and then there are 2 additional clips that insert into the rear of the vehicle. Take a little force but you are meant to push/pull rearward, not pry off like this video suggests.

  • @reinheitsgebot490
    @reinheitsgebot490 Před rokem +2

    1:05 this is just bad design. To do a basic maintenance task like CHANGING A LIGHTBULB you need a tool that's not common (plastic pry bar) and then you need to pop it off with some pretty significant force and THEN after you do so it's dangling all that weight on the break light wiring harness.... really Subaru!?
    EDIT: Thank you for the great video though. I'm just so very shocked I have to muscle something to CHANGE A FREAKING LIGHTBULB. Normally I'm afraid of breaking things when I have to do that. This is insane.

  • @alec1113
    @alec1113 Před 3 měsíci

    Remove by putting string behind and pull with both hands towards rear , lens will dislodged

  • @arcstrikeful
    @arcstrikeful Před 2 lety +5

    Do NOT use a plastic trim tool as damage can occur. Simply apply tape and pull to rear: czcams.com/video/WVP2VbpKbqM/video.html
    There are 4 guide pins to be engaged when reinstalling. Simply slide back into place from the rear, making sure that guides pins are aligned before sliding into place.

    I needed to replace the tail light assembly instead of the bulbs. I wasn't sure how to get the harness plug loose without breaking it. So I just took the mounting plate off of the old one (3 screws) and swapped it with the mounting plate in the new one. Still, it would be nice to show how to remove the harness plug if necessary.

    Well, HOW d o I get to the bulb? This was not very helpful. Another guy’s video is much mor helpful because it shows how to take off the whole light fixture, and then REPLACE THE BULB. It also how to use a credit card to unhook the nasty clips that hold the front part of the light to the car. Look fo a video that shows two Sylvani bulbs and wathc that one.
