    Also from a writing stand point it hits hard. It’s emotional because we see that love between them. It’s good for writing because it adds more depth and we understand what the first war was like for people losing someone they care about. I loved the twins and the are legends for pranking umbrage

      Its shitty writing and she did it throughout the series..... its a cheap, easy way to exploit the readers emotions, there are so many other ways to get the same result but they take more skill, so instead, she kept doing the same thing over and over cause it was easy- kill a beloved character, make the reader feel, do it again.

  • @johnslade9751

    I feel like she struggled to choose which of the Weasleys to have die. It wasn't going to be Ginny,Mr.Weasley or Molly, Bill had already gotten injured by greyback and Charlie wouldn't have any impact since he wasn't a prominent member. So my opinion that would leave the Twins and Percy, everyone always says Percy should have died but because he was the least-liked Weasley it wouldn't have had an impact on us. Personally I think Fred dying with the best choice because it put into perspective the scope of the war and that it gave George the quieter of the twins the dynamic of losing the one person who got him his best friend and partner that was the thing that change George,that's his scar. It was probably one of the more difficult choices she had to make given how popular they were

    I was getting mad until you said you realized why it WAS so impactful.
    To me, the deaths that have the most impact, are:
    1. The standard “blaze of glory”
    And
    2. “This is war. People die left and right. It isn’t always epic, there isn’t even always time to mourn.”
    But the epic “Hero’s death” is done all the time in fiction; it’s still always epic, but we’ve all seen it before.
    But deaths in movies and games of main characters that are just killed by a basic troop in a battle and there isn’t even time to mourn because the fight is still going, those are unique and sad and they force you to cope with it fast because the fight is still on.

    I think the author nailed it. She shocked everyone, in the same manner Death will swoop in and take someone in reality. There one minute, gone the next. It feels like a "cheat" doesn't it? Death comes and doesn't even allow you a chance to defend. Unfortunately, Death doesn't follow any rules and the author knew that. She knew that a does of reality in a world of fantasy would hit YOU as hard as the characters IN the fantasy. I was sad as well, but that is also how I knew it was done so well. \m/

  • @Raptormon132
    @Raptormon132 Před 2 lety +6

    In my opinion, if any of the Weasley should've died, it should've been Percy. Fred was more a brother, and a loyal friend to Harry than Percy ever was. He simply betrayed and turned his back on his friends and family, and the Order of the Phoenix when Voldemort returned. And he believed Harry Potter and Dumbledore were outright liars about Voldemort's return.

    • @MsKatastrophenBarbie
      @MsKatastrophenBarbie Před 2 lety +3

      @Raptormon, but why should those reasons matter in war? War isn't fair, war doesn't spare you because you are good and loyal. This is a lesson we all should have learned from Cedrics death in goblet of Fire.
      I think it is a far worse punishment for percy to see his little brother die. He truly loves his family even if they drive him nuts and don't share all of his values.
      Personally I really like the theory that Percy is under the imperius curse from wormtail.

He was their prodigal son so I think if he died it still would have had a great effect as he chose to sacrifice his family for his own self and now that he’s returned ands wants his family back he can never have them, and now that they finally got their son back he’s taken from them again and they don’t even have enough time to fully make up for lost time before he dies

    Though George's marriage did last, J.K. Rowling herself said it was a marriage made and lived in grief, not necessarily the healthiest but probably the best George could hope for after losing a major part of himself. And it should be noted that another Weasley was also on the chopping block but she later changed her mind. Originally she planned to kill off Ron, one of the trio and that is why for a long time his character remained undeveloped beyond an insecure and juvenile mentality pronged to jealousy and anger, especially towards Hermione.

    I actually thought Percy should have died. Bear with me. Considering how he betrayed his family and treated them disrespectfully throughout the series, I imagined him dying a hero’s death when protecting his family, at long last and because Fred was next to him, he will blame himself struggling with an internal battle wishing it was him, but eventually “moving on”and realizing what he was blessed with.

    I always thought it is interesting that while the character Fred is the older twin, it's Oliver who is the older of the actors.

    There was a perfect way to still kill of a Wesley but make just as heartbreaking if not more so, and that's have the scene exactly the same but when the smoke clears and everyone is seeing if anyone was hurt instead of Fred not getting up have it be Percy.
    I mean after all he'd just reconciled with his family things were looking up I think they had even been laughing together making plans for the future then he dies. It would devastate them all.
    I mean yeah its still heartbreaking to a sadistic nature almost but I feel this way is slightly better as your not tearing the twins apart you can't have one without the other, its not right.

    I hated that Fred was killed :( both seeing and reading Molly's reaction...God it was heartbreaking. Just as much as Amos Diggory's reaction to Cedric. I still can't watch or read those parts. Hits way too hard for me, I've lost both a sister and a child. Just a massive gut punch.

    Without that death could Molly have ever defeated Bellatrix? That death, if you will pardon me, brought out her mother grizzly nothing else could have. She REALLY meant it when she hurled her magic at Bellatrix with her love for her son adding piquancy to her magic.
    What else could have fueled Molly's anger and indeed rage?

    I too hated Fred's death, and was shocked. But anyone who fought, knew from day one he/she might die fighting. That is the hardship of war. Fred was one of the characters that I loved, that broke my heart, and if anyone, I think George should have been the one to die, if she decided to kill one twin. At least with my favorite, I knew in my heart his death will come, but for Fred I wasn't ready.

    I actually believe the Weasleys got away pretty good. Think about it they have such a big family and only Fred died while they actually didnt have any chance at winning the fight at Hoghwarts especially until Voldermort went to the forbidden forest. Its mostly sad to George because they were always together as twin and he never got over his death. If none weasley (important for fans) died we wouldnt get as hurt as we did but shoud have because in war (especially irl) you can lose everyone around you.

    I agree Fred being killed by a pile bricks was underwhelming however compared to Jamie and Cersei Lannister in Game of Thrones being killed by a pile of bricks/ stones after all the build up Fred going out the same way was more satisfying than the above mentioned.

    It wasn't a mistake. It added to the weight of the plot. Fred, nor George, nor many of the characters at that point served much of a purpose to the story. So... JKR started offing them because that's what happens in War, people die. Some characters though, in retrospect, were completely safe. Ginny, for example, had to live so she could give Harry the family he'd always longed for.
