1:36:00 I think theres a kind of interesting parallel here between Tyrion and Chella. Chella takes her opponents ears to give them a chance to win it back, because them being alive heightens her prestige essentially, while also making it more dangerous for her. Tyrion continually insults and aggravates people and does not kill them (for example, not killing Pycelle/locking him away permanently) purely because of his love of "the game" of winding people up, exactly the same as Chella.

Tyrion might have his insecurities, but I don't think that his constant referring to his own stature and condition in a derogatory manner underlines an insecurity, because remember what he told Jon about "making of one's weakness one's shied/strength and they'll never be able to harm you with it". @@humblegamer7876 being a fictional book, that bit of advice may yet turn out to be good or bad in the end; it all depends on how much a gardener/architect GRRM fancies himself to be;
IRL tho, I think Tyrion's advice to Jon was good and solid. "don't forget who you are, maybe make some fun of it so you won't get high and mighty and don't listen to the haters". I know a number of people who (most probably independently of Tyrion's asoif advice) took that to heart and didn't suffer for it.
@Alyssa Ravenheart there's a difference between accepting yourself and touting your flaws every chance you get. For example, let's say a person is dumb, accepting themselves would look something like asking for help when unsure, asking additional questions during explanations and deferring to others judgement over yours more often. Tyrion's use of the "accept yourself" advice would be something like "perhaps you can help me since I'm so fucking stupid."
It's good advice, the issue is Tyrion never follows it, he doesn't accept himself, he's drenched in self-hatred, self-pity and bitterness for everyone. This comes out not in "using his flaws as armor" but instead as reminding everyone he cannot be anything more than an imp. Just like the aforementioned dumb person, if you constantly remind everyone that you're stupid you'll never be seen as anything more than stupid rather than giving people a chance to think more of you, you define yourself for them.

I didn't think varus was threatening Tyrion. I looked at it as him helping Tyrion realize exactly where he was. I always thought he had a bit of an empathetic relationship with him because of his being a eunuch

I liked a lot about the Yuuzhan Vong, and the idea that the civilization being a looming threat, a fleet in being, influencing the decisions of some of the greatest anatagonists of the EU, added some depth and necessary perspective to the story. However, some of the living planet related twists to the story were really dumb. They hate the force because their mommy planet took it from them for being bad warlike kiddies? C'mon.
Smiling friends is kind of like GOT when you think about it. There's magic but also way more brutal realism.
