      Hi I notice I'm one of the 30 people who disliked and I can provide at least one answer to your question. You may not like it but it's just an opinion. The video is easy enough to comprehend but I find the way he gets his points across convoluted - picking a simple enough mathematical concept and over-complicating it unnecessarily. I see that often in classes and teachings and it irks me.
      Edit: Then you can go into "oh but is that enough to devoid the video of any merit" absolutely not but the like/dislike is just that, not that big of a deal, and I disliked it for the above reason.

      @@cello1993 Just a quick personal thought here (sorry if it offense you), but it seems like he's trying to introduce the math concept that he'll inevitably use in future videos, by applying it right from the beginning. Therefore, when he introduce something more complex, he can just talk about the new stuff and add it to the equation, instead of bringing out a super weird-looking complex equation all of a sudden and explaining everything. That's a friendlier approach, don't you think ?

    If anyone is confused about how the growth rate translates into a population graph, take note that the growth rate equation is a differential equation
    y' = B + (R - D)y.
    If you work out the math for it, you will find that the population equation is
    y = B / (D - R) + ce^(R - D)t,
    where t is time and c is some constant. Note that y is actually a family of functions, so there are infinite possible equations that fit this curve with different c values. To find c, we would need to know the value of y at some time t. If we assume the population is 0 at t=0, then c = - B / (D - R) = B / (R - D). It doesn't really matter that much though.
    We can explore the three cases of D > R, D = R, and D < R using this equation.
    If D > R, then the exponential term has a negative exponent. A property of such exponential terms is that they approach 0 as t goes to infinity. This leads to the equilibrium state described in the video, where the population will stabilize at B / (D - R) individuals.
    If D = R, then the curve is flat at B / (D - R) + c.
    If D < R, then you get a positive exponent and exponentially increasing growth.

    When you say it, it makes so much sense. You show how the different rates of birth death and spontaneous growth levels it self out even when the death in higher, but if the spontaneous rate were to be 0% than you would have to have the birth and death ratio the same or it will loose control. But if the growth is too high obviously like your other video it will start to level its self out but due to different mutations can change population but maintain a ongoing civilisation. Man your smart!!! I would love to see more!!!!

    Just discovered this channel ... totally love it ... love the background music ... but a slight adjustment to the music volume ... just a tad too loud .... but otherwise this is just marvelous!

    What this channel is is the beginning stages of simulation theory, a whole field of study in the near future, it's practical use will help us learn economics, human behavior, health, and many other applications. This will be highly beneficial for all of us.

    Will you eventually add into the model the concept of the Death Rate itself changing as the number of creatures changes? Basically like logistic growth?

      @PrimerBlobs  Před 6 lety +16

      Yes! I was actually planning to put that in this video when I was originally outlining it, but I ended up deciding to split it up. It'll be in the next video or the one after.

    My only complaint is that the background music sounds like my old alarm sound and I’m getting PTSD.
    Other than that, I think this channel is a hidden gem buried in the depths of boring repetitive content of CZcams

    This is together with Kurzgesagt how all of CZcams should look like (I know that there are a lot of very good channels, and not all of them are educational, but I like this kind of videos the most)
