"Grandad Sam, what did you do in the lockdown all those years ago?", "I supercharged a snail to go faster than the speed of sound!"
😂😂😂😂😂
*Breaks sound barrier*
"And backwards at that!"
haha, definitely one to tell the grandkids, lol! ;D
Thanks for watching, Sam :)
I AGREE
"Alright... I'm not a pervert" best opening ever sam
i said that too lol
haha, just thought I'd clear that up ;)
It's nice to see that you're contributing to the development of the next generation of high-speed trains. I'm sure the InterCity 850 will continue to be a smashing success.
haha thanks Matthew - I'm sure that's the case! xD
Thanks for watching, Sam :)
Science teachers must’ve hated you when you have to do a practical assignment 😂😂 perfect Sam
Yeah
haha!! Chemistry was the worst - the temptation to mess about was too great! ;D
Thanks for watching, Sam :)
"Model Train Enthusiast Sam's Trains burns down his attic by trying to create a model train powered by an electric fan."
haha don't say that!! ;D
LOL and my favourite train is a steam train 🚂
"I'm not a pervert" OH MY GOD, that cought me so off guard! Great video as always sam
haha gat eem! Thanks mate! :D
@@SamsTrains lol
This is literally a model version of the Jet Engine from Thomas & Friends! All you need is Thomas in front of it, of course. Anyways, Great Video, man! I like it when you do videos like these.
haha I've been hearing about that - I'm going to watch it if I can, maybe recreate it! ;D
Thanks for watching, Sam :)
@Pacmanfan 1112 I Was Thinking The Same Thing.
Or the "Jet Engine 2.0" from Percy does the Night Before Christmas
id want to see how fast the coupling rods on thomas would be turning
Normal train CZcams channels: train and layout reviews.
Sams Trains: “ TO SHOW YOU THE POWER OF FLEX TAPE I SAWED THIS TRAIN IN HALF!”
haha, you know that's true! ;D
Thanks for watching, Sam :)
I love it Sam, when you do something "different"
haha thank you! :D
You are so cool sam
8:24
I like trains
I like jet engines
“Hold my beer I got an idea”
haha, that's basically what happened! ;D
Thanks for watching, Sam :)
Sam blows out his lights while messing about with experimental engines and other stories
haha, pretty much! ;D
You could use your main layout with trains on it as a ballast to start up that variac 😀👍
Its an honest shame how at the time of this comment, less than a day after this video has been posted, it only has 8,600 views. I absolutely love these experimental videos you do Sam, its cool to see what you make and how they perform. Thank you for making them, from one of your fans across the pond.
Thanks so much for the support! Really glad you enjoyed it :3
Thanks for watching, Sam :)
Sams Trains: the Dude Perfect of model railroading!
soo true
Railroad- COUGH
Ikr?!!!?!?
I'm with you
haha I'm sure not! ;D
Thanks for watching, Sam :)
Since the last episode of Sam builds dodgy things that are slightly related to model railways......
My electrical engineer inside of me is *even more* interested. More high voltage, more high current, more high speed high intertia rotating equipment, more dangerous experiments which make it even more interesting!
You've done it again Sam, another very watchable and very interesting experiment.
haha many thanks, glad you liked it mate!! :D
Cheers,
Sam :)
Sam beaks the scale speed of sound at ground level!!!!! Excellent!!!!! Loved this Sam, and yes.... you are as mad as a flat cap full of pixies!!!!!
haha thanks mate, really glad you liked it... and guilty as charged, lol! ;D
Thanks for watching, Sam :)
your explanations about your trains is just GOLD!
haha thank you!! :D
Sam: ..and so for this stage I'm going to need a bit more power.
Me: expecting a large DC bench power supply
Sam: rolls out a frikkin variac
Me: holy sh...
😱
haha I know - it needed to be extreme ;)
Thanks for watching, Sam :)
When I see Sam's Trains and experiment, I think oh no here we go again.
Did you know that a jet engine powered prototype locomotive was actually made in real life in America?
haha yeah I did see that in a movie once - amazing stuff! :D
Thanks for watching, Sam :)
@@mattydorr1522 even though I am from Britain as well I like watching NASCAR as my brother is into it and has got me watching a few races. I have also been to Daytona to watch the 24 hr IMSA endurance racing twice.
The American Jet powered train was known as the M-497 and it looked like something off one of Gerry Andersons Thunderbirds
as a person who also made a jet-powered train using hot glue, an EDF, and a train chassis. I've noticed that hauling performance increases when you have it pushing instead of pulling, this is because the train cars don't interfere with the jetwash. Yours looks much scarier than mine though!
Love it. Tri-ang did it first with their R752 Battle Space Turbo Car. You added afterburners !
Love the aircraft carrier arrester hook idea. Worked a treat.
Thanks Andrew- yes that's sort of what inspired this! haha glad you liked the arrester!
Thanks for watching, Sam :)
"If it crashes", I think you really meant to say "When it crashes"
haha yeah, you're right! ;D
Thanks for watching, Sam :)
Thanks for editing out the cry from downstairs "Just wait till I get my hands on you, you've fused the TV right in the middle of Loose Women!" 😂 That was so funny when the house blacked out nearly as good as the Old Top Gear "Next week we attach a rocket, and on that bombshell, goodnight!"
haha, fortunately nobody else suffered that one... not always the case, lol! ;D
Thanks for watching, Sam :)
When Sam tested the snail was like the old top gear
This is SO fun to watch!!! Very good video. :)
Omg this is the funniest thing I’ve seen in a long time. Brilliantly done Sam.
This reminds me of thomas and the jet engine all over agian.
Opinion: put thomas at the front of the turbine and let them run.
haha me too! ;D
I really do like these experiment videos. As a suggestion, how about moving the jet engine propeller on to an O gauge or G gauge frame and cranking the power up further? The tracks and wheels can take more power at those gauges and the wider axle base should provide extra stability. You could even have a go at streamlining it. Looking forward to the next one 😁
That's a great idea - O gauge could be do-able, and it'd be much more stable!
Thanks for watching, Sam :)
This is gonna be an exciting video! I’ve waited for an update video from the old propeller train you made a while back
Yes! It's high time I did another one! ;D
Thanks for watching, Sam :)
SAM ! Fantastic Project. Really rang my bell. Best Escargot I've ever had !
haha thanks very much Richard! :D
First thought: Oh no, not again!
Second thought: This is brilliantly Ludicrous!
haha!! Glad you liked it mate, thank you!! :D
Happy weekend! 🙄
You too mate! :D
Thanks for watching, Sam :)
this video was amazing sam I really enjoyed it!
Thanks so much Isaacc! :D
This is something unique and unheard of so props for this idea. The ideas are endless when thinking outside the box. Thanks for the video. 👍
haha thanks very much - appreciate it! :D
I want to see Bachmann Thomas pulling that jet engine
Reference to Thomas And The Jet Engine
And you are getting so close to 100,000k subscribers
haha great idea - hopefully it wouldn't destroy him!
I know - can't believe that!! :O
Thanks for watching, Sam :)
Ever Wanted A “Thomas And The Jet Engine” On Your Model Railway?
You would smash your thomas to bits at the rate its going
Never wanted, but that's certainly what I've ended up with! ;D
Thanks for watching, Sam :)
Oh, Sam. I will never tire of your channel. Especially when you do wacky experiments like this one. Great video as usual, sir!
Thanks so much mate - really appreciate it! :D
Thanks for watching, Sam :)
great video sam : ) your knowledge with electrics and model trains is brilliant really enjoyed the video : )
Thanks so much mate, glad you liked it! :D
Cheers,
Sam :)
SAM. We have only just finished reeling from ghost trains & flying wheel weights, & you hit us again with this madness. Brilliant, we loved it. A T B Mike !!!
haha thanks very much Mike - glad you liked it mate! :D
Thanks for watching, Sam :)
Well Sam, just totally AWSOME !!!!! Unbelievable speeds, that breaks the sound barrier doesn't it, 850 mph ?? Just love watching you do the most outrageous things that I'd love to do but just can't afford the collateral damage cost !!! Now I know why I look for your videos mostly every night. Keep em coming lad, great stuff. Cheers Rick the Bulldog
These are brilliant videos Sam, and I love your skills...Simon
haha thanks so much Simon! Very generous to call them skills though, hehe!
Thanks for watching, Sam :)
Watching you long before these random experiments but these are so amazingly fun to watch. Keep up the good work sam and youle get that 100k soon
haha thanks so much - glad you enjoy them! :D
Cheers,
Sam :)
*silence*
*staring*
"Right. I'm not a pervert."
Absolutely fantastic
haha!! xD
Love the experimentals!!
Thanks Lewis! :D
That intro combined with the video just puts the cherry on top! I love some of the more mature jokes and quips you make sometimes XD
haha thank you! Glad you enjoy them,
Cheers,
Sam :)
Cheers for another great video Sam!
My pleasure - glad you enjoyed it! :D
Cheers,
Sam :)
3 things I admire about Sam. His experiments. His courage. But above all, HIS JOKES!.
haha thank you!! So much appreciated :D
I have learned a lot here Sam brilliant video 👍
haha glad to hear that! Thank you! :D
Thanks for watching, Sam :)
Awesome looking beast surely it is powerful from what I saw great work sam
Thanks Jacob - yeah it's pretty beefy! ;D
Mach 2 next! Great video, lots of fun.
haha thank you!! ;D
This is awesome! I NEED THIS!!!!
haha thank you! I wouldn't recommend building one though - they're very dodgy! ;D
Thanks for watching, Sam :)
“I’m not a pervert. Right, can we have some of that annoying music please?”
That made me laugh so hard 😂 You have a good sense of humor Sam!
haha!! Thanks a lot mate :3
that final propeller loco with the 5-pole motor (from earlier video) did achieve a scaled up speed of mach 1.16 (on conversion of 850 MPH to Mach speed) so still very impressive.
Great Video Sam And I Hope You Have An Awesome Christmas And Just Remember That Christmas Is Not Just About The Presents It's About Spending Time With Family And Friends And That's What Christmas Is All About And Also I'm Always Thankful For What I Get On Christmas
Thanks so much my friend, you're absolutely right! :D
Merry Christmas - Sam :)
Thank you, Sam. Totally bonkers but throughly entertaining.
Thanks so much Drew! :D
Going as fast as possible with a fan. Basically, about 80% of the speed of sound, 760 mph, which cannot be exceeded with air-powered drive. Other than the jet engine.
Let's hope that, one day, Sam will be working on approaching the speed of light, for inter-planetary travel.
Cheers from Canada :-)
I was thinking “please don’t burn down your house” 😂😂 lots to laugh in this video
haha, I do my best not to! Glad you enjoyed it mate,
Merry Christmas - Sam :)
Only try this at home when you are crazy
Cool experiment again Sam. I would love to see more experiments in the future
haha exactly! I'll see what I can do!! :D
Thanks for watching, Sam :)
Sam your always so entertaining and interesting, always look forward to your videos,.....Thanks for all the hard work.
haha thanks so much Sam! :D
Awesome video pal! 👍🤙
Thank you! :D
a supersonic train. well done you enjoyed that a lot a good laugh all round. looking forward to the next one.cheers sam . tom
haha thank you! Glad you enjoyed it Tom! :D
I’m sorry I’ve been gone I have had a rough last week or so but what a video to come back too!
-Ollie
That's okay mate - haha hope you like it! ;D
Thanks for watching, Sam :)
I always loved watching a Sam's trains experiment!!
(Don't think I'll be doing any of them at home though)
Thanks so much - haha glad to hear that! ;D
Thanks for watching, Sam :)
amazing. these vids make me so happy
Thanks so much - that's lovely to hear! :D
Thanks for watching, Sam :)
I might be wrong, but I think this is the craziest video Sam's put out yet! Keep up the good work mate, we need you more than ever!
haha yeah you're probably right! Thanks so much :3
Thanks for watching, Sam :)
Great test Sam:)
Thank you! :D
Sam next time, today we will be making the fastest model train using a fighter jet attached to it and causing severe cancellations at Heathrow when it takes flight
haha!! I like that idea, lol! ;D
Thanks for watching, Sam :)
Great Video Sam, Good Fun
Thanks David! :D
Its crazy. It's brilliant!
Thanks John! :D
Love the start
haha thank you! ;D
These experiments take model railways into another dimension Sam ..always fun to watch..
Thanks so much David, glad you like them! :D
Cheers,
Sam :)
I have watched this 3 times now..! Sam you either need Help, Or your a Wizard.
During Covid you made me Laugh. Thx for it..! 😎
Sam: Builds another wacky creation.
The Peckett: "What is this? Wacky Racers or something?"
One of the engines on the shelf: "He's at it again. Cover your smokeboxes!"
haha we had this exact conversation! ;D
Thanks for watching, Sam :)
Oh my goodness, Sam! You are insane! XD I hope you counted your fingers after this one. ;) I enjoyed it immensely!
haha thanks George - I certainly did - all 11 still in tact!
Thanks for watching, Sam :)
Going to have to report your mistreatment of snails to the RSPCA.. lol Great vid as always :)
Uh oh!! Anything but that! xD
Thanks so much mate! :D
Great video sam
Thanks James! :D
You are an absolute nutter.
Keep it up mate
haha thank you!! :D
One way to overcome the the stability issue is parallel sets of track. The only thing is making sure the tracks are precisely spaced along the test strip. Then have the duct mounted between two running chassis parallel with each other. Just a thought for the future.
Yes that's a very good idea for stability actually!
Thanks for watching, Sam :)
Absolutely crazy... more please Sam, you can go faster.
haha thanks Philip - I hope so one day! ;D
This is amazing!!!! A truly experimental locomotive 👌 could you try a mini jet engine in the future? A great video to watch
Matt
Thanks so much - I'd love to, but that really is beyond my expertise, lol! ;D
Thanks for watching, Sam :)
One to try outdoors rather than in your loft.
This reminds me of James May's The Great Train Race where the raced model trains and one of them had to effectively be an "Alternative Power/Motion" loco.
Sam... Sam... Sam!!!! Just when I think you can't get any more bonkers... you go and prove me wrong!!!! Brilliant!!!!
haha thanks a lot Al!! :D
I think you have more track than Hornby it’s self
Btw great vid :)
haha!! ;D
hello sam i did not think it would go that fast and now i think its time to make a new strongest model railway locomotive again now and love the video from david
haha yeah - I was impressed by the speed too! :D
Thanks for watching, Sam :)
This is why I love this channel, it is professional but also a bit silly at times.
haha thank you! :D
3.0 3.0 3.0
I want you to keep going with this your engineering capabilities are really starting to shine through it's very fascinating to see what you build also I'd like to see you create a Frankenstein out of all your drunk parts would be cool to see a Frankensteins monster locomotive I would like that I'm sure a lot of people would too and yeah this is pretty extreme when I need to go find something extreme I come here to Sam's trains LOL
Thank you so much Ethan - I've got some new builds to show soon, stay tuned! :D
Thanks for watching, Sam :)
8.9k more subs till 100k have fun sam I’ve been subbed since 10k
I know right - I can't believe it! Thanks so much for your support! :D
Thanks for watching, Sam :)
@@SamsTrains your welcome Sam
I love your experiment videos. Next time you do the full collection video could you include all of your experiment Victims
haha sure - I could definitely do that! :D
Thanks for watching, Sam :)
Overall, amazing experiment you made today! That big fan on this locomotive beats the 2 propellers on the other locomotive you did an experiment on! Imagine this being a Thomas & Friends character, imagine what it’ll look like when it looks like this!
Thanks very much - yeah it was way more powerful for sure! ;D
Thanks for watching, Sam :)
Fantastic Sam
Love these experements
Makes me laugh
Nick
haha thanks so much Nick! :D
Wow i like the speed test whith a jet engine model.
Congrats Sam to a test well done.
👍👍👍👍😊😊👍👍😊😊👍
Thanks mate, really glad you enjoyed it! :D
Thanks for watching, Sam :)
Great fun sam, I did try it at home, fire men told me it's one of the worst house fires they ever seen 😂
haha that was quick mate - don't say I didn't warn you! ;D
Thanks for watching, Sam :)

You forgot to wear your high visibility jacket!
Ha. Another great video and what an epic model!
Of course! And the helmet, reinforced work boots, gloves..... etc etc! ;D
Thanks so much!! :D
Lord Sam of Sodor, you did it! you made a supersonic jet train!
this time you even make a launch system and an arrestor wire! amazing! you should try this on 1:1 scale also! 😂😂😂
haha thank you! I had a lot of fun with that launch system! ;D
Thanks for watching, Sam :)
I have witnessed many extreme model trains on my 11 years growing up but I never thought I would see that
haha thank you!! ;D
Haaaa! This was a hoot for sure. You're turning into a mad scientist! I'd like to see you set that fan and power up in a way to make it a "perpetual" forward, and back with the rubber band.
haha thanks very much - and that'd be awesome actually - what a funny idea! xD
Thanks for watching, Sam :)
You are completely insane but it was well worth it, keep up the good work Sam. Frank
Thanks so much Frank, really glad you enjoyed it! :D
Cheers,
Sam :)
this is is making model railways an extreme sport
It certainly is! ;D
We'll have to start calling you Dr Frankins-train! Great fun vid!
haha thanks Jack! :D
Absolutely awesome
Thank you! :D
Dude you are absolutely insane dude ha ha I love it!!!!!😂🤣🚂
haha thank you!! :D
Love the jenga blocks Sam haha
