I wasn't that low a level but I was still massively under-powered for this discovery. I had modded in weapons and had a hunting rifle when I found this, and by the time I'd got to the raiders I'd gone through most of my ammunition just to get the queen down. And even that was done with tons of stealth attacks just for the bonus damage.

He could easily voice an old storyteller.
You enter a town, and in the middle of town there are a few children and a traveler or two gathering around an old bearded man telling tales from all over what was once the United States. He goes on and on and on, and the player can just sit down on a bench and listen for half an hour.

I think that “attic” room with the monkey is a reference to the author Stephen King. His short story collection “Skeleton Crew” has a story titled “The Monkey” and there is a cymbal monkey on the cover. Also, one of his characters, who was an author, wrote his stories in pencil. Finally, the author character in “It” wrote a story called “The Attic” based on his experiences with the creature.

Is it possible that it's actually the black-grey paint that is peeling and flaking off the dome, revealing the underlying gold leaf?
That's what I was thinking he would say.
Yes, possibly the paint was maintained in case of a commie suck invasion
Yeah that's what I was thinking
The only issue I see here is that paint would flake off in actual flakes, not clean lines, where as rolled sheets of gold leaf would be more likely to come off in a similar way that is seen in game
I was thinking the gold leaf flaked off revealing the dark grey paint underneath. Mostly because the flaking was at the topmost part of the dome. It wouldn’t make sense for the paint at the bottom to come off first.

I stumbled into the State House at around level twelve. That Mirelurk Queen is a *mother* of a fight at that level. Ended it's completely out of stimpacks and ammo. Then had to take down the raider in PA with the bottlecap mine found in the building and an automatic pipe pistol taken off one of the raiders.

+Oxhorn Actually the statue of Webster isn't leaning on a column. That "column" is a fasces, a bound bundle of wooden rods, symbolising (jurisdictional) authority and collective power. The symbol is of ancient roman (and possibly even of etruscan or even older) descent.
MadnerKami the bundle of sticks is a symbolic reference dating back to the Babylonians and Sumerians
and eventually it became a symbol of Fascism, Fallout implying something here?
It was always a symbol for Facism, just used by other authoritarian branches of government, too. Including the USA, for what it's worth.
I thought that was the bundle of sticks and an axe. They the same thing?

The office with the pencils reminds of things I've seen from Saw and Dexter, but I haven't seen all of either, so maybe I'm projecting. I've definitely seen the pencil/pen thing a few times. It's usually used to indicate OCD-type personality. The Jet and the bones is what brings me back to Saw. 1 scene from 3(?) had someone manacled to a desk and had to cut their foot off to get out.

@Oxhorn At 26:08 i just chalk that room up to Raider shenanigans, them raiders aren't exactly right in the head you know
Great video by the way
My takeaway from this is that politicians are resting on the back of old infrastructure while spending tax dollars on their pet projects. Then I look at our real world infrastructure. Suddenly, Fallout's pre-war corruption doesn't seem so unreasonable, sadly.
Hell, look at what's happening now and Black Isle seemed on to something. China already muscling in on oil in the south China sea, the EU is/was moving into a United nation and finally resources are likely to become a more important thing as the planet warms/technology advances.
I love these videos because I'm personally not patient enough/invested enough to find all of this information on my own, thanks.

I believe Governor Graham was officially titled as “provisional Governor Graham”.
I’m getting this from a conversation you have with the greeter at General atomics galleria, if you choose the sarcastic option, the sole survivor introduces themselves as the governor of Massachusetts, to which the Mr Handy greeter incredulously responds “Oh my, Provisional Governor Graham!”
Just a fun extra fact

Well, he plays a huge part of New Vegas - both Vanilla and DLC. So I would imagine it's only a matter of time.
Him, Ulyesses, and the main character all play a huge part in most of the game.
zombiestaber4
Personally, Lonesome Road has my favorite story and narrative while Old World Blues had my favorite setting and atmosphere. Either way, New Vegas felt like the REAL sequel to Fallout 2 and is my favorite Fallout game to come out after being purchased by Bethesda. Fallout 2, however, will ALWAYS remain my favorite game in the franchise.
Well I mean that’s because it is, Fallout 3 takes place on the other side of America, you know, no where near the events of Fallout 1 and 2? Why do you think people barley know who the brotherhood or Enclave are in D.C or the Commonwealth?
Is it just me or does St. Louis or Chicago sound like an amazing place for a Fallout game
Dr. Jazzersize Chicago was already done. In Fallout Tactics. St Louis is mentioned or even visited a lil in a old game like Brotherhood of Steel or something
13ghettoDolphins101 Both are in Tactics, but St. Louis is the only one you visit in game

I've always secretly hoped for a fallout game in Florida, maybe in the Everglades with mutated alligators (like the gatorclaws in Nuka World) or maybe Giant predatory turtles.
I’ve past by this location so many times in my gameplay as I’m constantly revisiting the Boston Common to either save Nick Valentine, Kill Swan or just walk past. I’ve sworn myself to visiting it every time and still Oxhorn makes a video of it before I even enter it!

Hey Oxhorn i know you say you read all your comments but i don't know if you'll see this as this isn't the most recent video. Also this is kinda long. The important thing is here a plaque outside the state house, and i think it provides insight into the whole of fallout history.
On it it seems to imply that the 13 commonwealths were formed in 1969 and given the commonwealth flag being in the Washington dc museum of science's representation of the virgo lander making fallout's first moon landing on July 15th 1969 it has to have been earlier that year. however the question still remains why? What would get america to make this change were they scared before 1969?
Another thing of note in fallout America claims to have gotten a man into space first( may 5th 1961) The soviets and Chinese deny that possibly because in real life Yuri Gagarin did it on april 20th 1961. perhaps america thinks the soviets lied. However america in fallout makes its moon Virgo III Lander Valiant 12 landing 5 days before the real life apollo 11 landing.
The following is pure speculation but it does provide a good motive. It you want you could use this as a basis for a video because its like one of the biggest questions about the divergence.
Perhaps biggest change was not the lack of the transistor But in fact the time the world almost ended in 1963 The Cuban missile crisis.
Perhaps there was a small conflict surrounding the cuban missle crisis but no nukes were launched and while horrific it wasn't enough to actually turn into world war 3. However the fighting still could've terrified the world to the point where both America and the Soviets made massive reforms.
Reforms that 6 years later lead to a new system that weakens state power via the 13 commonwealths. Meanwhile the soviet reforms might be why they survived past 1991 and all the way to 2077 where they seem to have friendly relations with the US perhaps the soviets became more of democratic socialists (somewhat like the nordic countries but a little more weighted towards the socialism aspect.) As it is socialism but its not communism and is democratic enough to end the hate between the two nations.
China on the other hand wouldn't be involved and this could mean Nixon never had to be friendly with china. Meaning china never made the reforms it has today. Explaining why one of the premade vault 13 residents can be related to a soviet diplomat and why china becomes the one to start the resource wars. Because america never opened up trade with it and then denied it the last unclaimed oil in the world.
The us and china weren't friends but they didn't hate each other yet. Then china just as starved for oil as the rest of the world asks america to share ,and Regardless whether its out of political differnces or the fact that America really needed the oil as well says no. Justified or not this enrages china. So they are left with a decision ironicly much like their enemy the Japanese had in 1941. Die from lack of oil or gain oil at any cost. China Decided to fight to survive invading alaska and plunging the world into a war that would eventually end with china losing on all fronts against a vengeful and ruthless america. So begins the Great war.

Ox, I'm a recent subscriber (as of yesterday) and I absolutely love your content. I've recommended your videos to friends looking to get into the Fallout series as a way to introduce them to the world Bethesda created, and I'm a huge fan of your settlement videos. On that topic, I was wondering if you've ever considered doing a series where you build up settlements rather than showing off the completed locations. Settlement building was the feature I was most excited about, but it felt like a huge letdown when I actually got my hands on the game. If you could to a guide series on how to effectively use the construction system, I and many others would be grateful.
And on the topic of the State House, I only got as far as the first mirelurk hatchlings before I noped my level 7 character out of there and never went back.

I just found a minor issue with the lever action rifle in this video it shows it firing a spitzer (pointed) bullet and the 45-70 round is not because it was created before spitzer bullets where invented and in the tube magazine in a level action rifle the point of the bullet would be resting against the primer of the bullet in front of it in the tube and when fired the recoil would cause a chain fire in the tube destroying the gun it's a nit picky complaint I know but still
FancyJesus666 huh?
Not like at any point in time between the invention of the lever action rifle and the futuristic point in time that Fallout 4 takes place could anything have been modified, no siree.

@@jennyg.4503 I know this is old, but why ya gotta be a dick? Dude just pointed out a valid point, and there is no evidence that the lever action rifle specifically was updated to solve this problem??
I like the irony of those who claim to embody democracy turning around and ignoring democracy every chance they get - and then accusing those who protest and want them to honor democracy of being communists. It's all over Prewar America in the Fallout Universe. As much as they go on about democracy, they don't really seem to be very democratic at all.
Also, there's no real indication that the treasurer was actually "eyeing" the position of governor for himself - that's possibly just Graham's projection, basically what he would be doing in Robert's place.

Just to add to the Governor discussion, the greeter Mr Handy at the General Atomics Galleria addresses you as "Provisional Governor Graham" when told sarcastically that you are the governor of Massachusetts.
