Paladin Danse may be a jerk, but he'll wait for you. I used to leave him grumbling in the corner while I went shopping.
I love how if you wait long enough, Paladin Danse will start shouting something along the lines of "Do something, soldier! Press a button! Press everything!" while he's being swarmed by the synths.
For what it's worth, Danse ignores all the loot and lore because his job is to clear it out, not loot it. He even states that he will mark it for sweep and retrieve for the scribes because its their job to do so.

yeah, you have to consider the conditions that danse is in. he's losing men by the day and he needs to contact the citidel. loot can wait until back up arrives.
It's only after the prydwen airship comes that they have the firepower and men to go loot and scavenge technology , but in the end when they get you to blow up institute why didn't they take their technology to use 🤦
If Power Armor can resist the blast coming from that engine, why do armor pieces fly off when hit by .38s coming from pipe weapons?

The armor can probably resist it because it is absorbing heat rather than getting gradually chipped away by bullets.

this place is based off a real life place that was named arcjet it was located in the everglades of florida and they were working on a project for nasa but they didnt get it and got in trouble for dumping waste into the local canal its abandoned and there still a engine in the test chamber there

That was my thought. Imagine if the Institute connected the deep range transmitter to their teleporter...the NCR would be in serious trouble.
By far the most logical reason, it could modify radio waves but if the Institute could rework it into other signal types it could vastly expand their workable area, especially in regard to escaped Synths. Especially true in the case of the Railroad, who could be trying to move 'Institute property' out of the Commonwealth in some cases.

The reason the Institute wants the deep range radio transmitter is pretty simple, and much the same as why Danse wants it. With different ends. Dance wants to boost his radio signal to reach the Capital Wasteland. The Institute's relay uses radio signals to carry it's teleportation device. Longer range on the Relay means they can travel further with it. That's reason enough. It means they have access to more areas to pillage for pre-war tech and materials.
I find it funny that Danse's armor can take standing under a firing rocket booster, but power armor you wear can't stand up to a flame thrower.

i think even if the sole survivor canonically notices, it can be explained away, it can be explained that the power armor, plus two centuries of mounting system errors and no maintenance, tricked the sensors into thinking there was nobody down there
@@kittycat5972 yes but computers don't recognize things like that. Its like sticking a toaster in there, the computer doesn't read consciousness it just checks if its biologically alive. The synths are very much alive, conscious, and human. Computers aren't very capable of noticing that though.
I discovered Cambridge Police Station when I did mission "Rockets red glare", so... I didn't see paladin Danse at all.
In this case, I could take from ArcJet Systems only Tesla Science magazine, but not Junk Jet.
I couldn't get in that room without him.

I wish you got the option to kill Danse in ArcJet - seems like a missed opportunity to cut off the brotherhood, or at least make it a whole lot more difficult, from the very beginning.
Also, I wish there was the option to get Scribe Haylen to leave the Brotherhood - seems like they set it up that way, with her questioning joining in the first place, but then didn't follow through with it. She seems like she'd make a good fit with the Minutemen.

The Institute probably wanted the transmitter to help them make contact with their synth retention teams hunting Synth escapees beyond the Commonwealth like Dr Zimmer the actual head of the SRB who isn't in the Commonwealth again during Fallout 4.

This is very true for multiple areas I find. It was interesting revisiting Arcjet with Danse after I had already cleared what I could out from previous.

Going to arcjet systems in the BoS quest will give you about 1000 - 1300 fusion cells you can use for the laser rifle you find at the police station OR you can sell for ez caps and you can also scrap or sell the institite weapons youll find there in the quest.
Since Danse cant die you can let him fight in the jet room against the synths so hell kill a "couple" of them and you can loot their fusion cells.... do this for 10 minutes and you might even get 2000 or MAYBE EVEN 10000 fusioncells for ez cash or ammo (the fight in the room at 31:09)

what are you talking! I do that since the game was released you can get at least 300 fusion cells not more! Maybe when you play the game on easy, idk never played on that
scrapper gets you scrap not ammo, you mean scrounger and youre doin something wrong then cuz i always get 1000+ fusion cells there!
Its regardless of difficulty and i always played on very hard and got 1000+ fusion cells there and even more with scrounger 1 and even more with scrounger 2!

Get scrounger (luck 3) as early as possible because if you dont need ammo you can sell it and the perk is better than fortune finder (more caps [luck 2] anyways)
I dont know if theres a cap on how many institute guns/fusion cells you can get/spawn there but i usually get around 1000 FC's cuz it does take some time to farm it....

Personally, as with the Fallout 3 references to the Institute, I don't think we've heard the last from the XNB nuclear rocket or the Mars Shot project. The security of ArcJet is already proven laughable. It is highly probable that it was deliberate. My suspicion is that the Enclave was completely aware of the particulars of the project, and had already seen the technician's solution for the rocket, and had plenty of time to replicate the program enmasse prior to the nuclear hell-fire of the great war. During the nuclear exchange between the US and Chinese, XNB rockets manned by Enclave personnel likely launched themselves to a better future on mars. The VaultTec attraction at Nuka World likely supports this probability, given the emphasis they placed on colonization. In fact, it wouldn't surprise me at all if the one behind the VaultTec social experiments are on Mars as well. It would make a great plot for Fallout 5 (or a mod). I may just have to visit this idea for a mod...
I'm very convinced this mission is where Danse is replaced by a synth. There's virtually no other reason to have him wait there while you run back to the Police station, and yea it's a game but, and he gets there before you? They killed Danse, weakened by the rocket, and teleported his synth.
Thanks for pointing out that magazine at Arc Jet, Ox. I've missed it completely in seven play-through's, but will be sure to stop by there again on an upcoming survival mode endurance hike though the area.
well the deep range transmitter could be used by the institute to contact Institute assets on the east coast like Dr Zimmer in Fallout 3, this theory is further supported by the fact that not even brotherhood communications could reach each other from the distance between the ruins of Washington D.C and Boston, the same could be said for Institute transmissions so i would conclude that the only reason the institute would need for a deep range transmitter would be that the various obstructions between C.I.T and institute assets were stopping communications so a deep range transmitter would be needed to traverse the mountains all the way down the east coast or maybe even the west coast to reach institute assets, but that is one man's humble opinion Oxhorn, what do you think.
It's almost like Bethesda *WANTED* us to believe that the BOS are the good guys with the music in the background in the Prydwin and when talking to Danse
For some reason I never particularly liked this faction. There's worse ones to be sure; I wouldn't go out of my way to antagonize them or anything, but I never allied myself to them either.

depends on how you play through, you can prefer the stance of BOS, the railroad, the institute or the Minutemen. I think you can even finish the game without joining any. on my first playthrough, I skipped the Minutemen, joined both the railroad and BOS, betrayed them both by joining the institute as soon as i could.
If you have to find reasons to hate a faction maybe its more you then them?
The BOS are not good. They arent bad. Theyre a shade of grey. Like any faction in a post-apocalyptic wasteland is bound to be.

I feel the institute needed it for either experiments with their teleporter, or their synths. If they could link their synths up to a network like a hive mind or something, they may be easier to control. Or they simply wanted to extend the range of their teleporter system, because while yes they can teleport to anywhere in the Boston area, it may have a range limit not too far outside of it and the DLC areas if you can even teleport there.
Or they'll start a hive-mind coordinated rebellion, which I would LOVE to see, since synths massively outnumber the Institute staff and slavery is not cool with me.

Even on my playthroughs I'm with the institute, railroad or minuteman, I always agree to join the BoS, I guess from a role-play perspective you turn it down, but it doesn't make sense to pass up on their gear and armor, just think of it as infiltration, you don't have to keep doing their quest line.

As your character was running with Danse, I couldn't help but notice something about her...
She sure got, "back" LOL.
This lore always irritated the hell out of me.. Switching from Uranium to Deuterium (hydrogen isotope) in short term is asinine. It means switching from a Fission engine to a Fusion. This would take months or years if you're completely redesigning an engine given Arc Jet's apparent employment levels.
This one building has more story and content than most modern games have in their entirety.
Very intriguing idea for the institute having a satellite location. They are such a good bad guy, and the synths make for interesting characters that it only makes sense that Bethesda would like to leave it open for them to be in future fallout games.

It's been awhile since I've done the mission, but the Institute was probably there for other tech, perhaps the engine itself? Also, the protectron you find on the ground had already been disassembled, certainly the Institute would have found the transmitter at that point. Perhaps the Institute had been observing the building, ready to ambush those who make their way through the tech-laden building? Meh dunno.
Well since the Institute teleports on radio waves, it would make sense that they would want a long range transmitter to be able to use it to teleport to locations like the capital wasteland or further. Since we know from FO3 that runaway synths have been known to go that far. Would make their job of catching them that much easier.

Could it be that someone at the Institute managed to figure out that Danse was one of their missing Gen 3's, and took it upon themselves to send a retrieval team (sans the Courser)? Alternatively, what if Danse is actually "bugged", and they sent the synths to impede the BoS squad's calling in reinforcements?

Regarding the Institute's desire for a deep-range transmitter, they may have been hoping to increase the distance at which they could project power. We know from Far Harbor that , with planning and effort, they can increase the range of the Relay, but they would still need to be able to communicate with their distant forces to exchange information and receive requests for Relay retrieval.
It doesn't mater if you knew the whole lore before Ox videos. I will always enjoy his storytelling abilities. He could be telling a story about lore behind molerat holes and gas stations and I would enjoy them all! Great voice, finding all that informations about all the places (from prewar skeleton positions and so), emotions in the right places throughout the story... It's just marvelous. Thanks Ox for telling all the great Fallout stories. :)

I did a video on his quest Blind Betrayal, but I have not done a profile on him yet.
For what it's worth, this is pretty clearly referencing the Apollo program. The marsshot project is most likely related to the "moonshot" project which is what the Apollo program was called. The junk jet holotape has voices that have German accents, although it probably has nothing to do with it. The engine also resembles a rocketdyne F-1 engine which is the same engine used on the first stage of the Saturn V. The F-1 also faced problems in its development, although it had to do with the engine exploding rather than the weight.
You can read up on the program and make your own connections.
Nuclear propulsion is actually a very efficient form of engine, but it hasn't been used mostly for safety reasons (imagine an engine dropping a ton of irradiated exhaust on the atmosphere).
I really do wish someone would make a mod for that helmet animation. We need it all the time on all characters.

Just a quick note about hacking terminals: If you hover your mouse over each character in a line from top to bottom, You'll notice that sometimes a whole string of symbols will be highlighted. This string of symbols can either remove a dud word and reset your password attempts. It's a handy trick I found out while I was bored :D
