      This is something I do not understand, at least from an American perspective. What is the concern for plates? In the U.S., unless you order vanity or cause plates, no one cares, and certainly would not pay $$ to replace standard plates. OK, I am done now, thank you!

    I had one same year. Rust is a problem. One thing I should mention to any prospective buyer which is never mention in buyers guides, always check the heater blows hot air. The heater has its own 12V booster pump. They go wrong not especially expensive. However official jaguar way to change it is to remove the gearbox. Both adults and kids turned their heads when it went by, the later one didn't do that. I sold it mostly because I didn't fit, even on the lowest setting my head touched the roof, beware if you're around 6,2 or 187cm . Why did they make it with such a low roof for the driver? Pity.

    I own a very late model X100 XKR and I understand what Matt means. The car looks absolutely stunning, no question. But it falls between two (or three) stools as we say. It is very quick in a straight line, and handles high speed bends well, especially on sports suspension. But the steering, autobox and sheer weight mean it is not a country lane hustler.
    It is very comfortable for a long run, but so are lots of modern cars that have better equipment such as Apple Carplay. Plus modern cars spoil us for fuel consumption.
    But it sounds amazing - especially with a decent exhaust such as an Adamesh!
    And did I say it looks gorgeous?

The guy just wanted it moved so we agreed to take it for nothing. Gave him a nice bottle of wine. 300 euros grua back to La Linea and we've had it ever since. Interior is poor although the roof works fine and it runs well. Agree with you about the colour combo looks great - I notice you don't make any "Werthers" quips about Jaguar's these days?🙂 The original XK & XKR had the underpinnings of the old XJS that date back to the 70's so I think it is now very much a modern classic whereas the series 2 could still be a daily driver and I think I prefer the looks (slightly) of the later model. Interestingly, you mention engine and gearbox servicing. One of the many faults mine had was the gearbox. My local Jaguar main dealer wouldn't carry out a gearbox service at my request stating they are sealed for life units?? The gearbox was the reason I finally sold the car on for parts for £1500.
    I may be wrong, but your faultless Jag might need a new aerial. It shouldn't sit partway extended with the engine off.

    I miss my XJS as it had the bullet proof 4.0 litre engine and lovely comfortable suspension. I thought about the XKR and XK8 but the amount up for sale with issues was a worry plus you have the Ford buttons. The leather on that car does look lovely though, it's aged really well.

    The cheapest comparable one in the Netherlands costs with 82.000km 1 owner but worse colour combination (silver and black interior). Cheapest ropy one costs €8500 with 292k km. I think you got a steal, even with Britain’s crazy cheap car prices. I’m jealous at least

    Thanks for this - a great start to my birthday. Off to Cheltenham for the day next in my 2014 xk dynamic r convertible - shame the weather is as per your video! If I had 2 garages I'd have paid you a visit - that coupe looks gorgeous!

    Very nice, I have a 2002 Xkr convertible. Think I prefer having no roof as it obviously adds more room with the roof down 😂. Mine hasn’t really given any problems in 10 years. It lives in a garage all winter but still needed the arches and sills doing. I get what you mean about the fizz but I always wanted one and I have a hardtop DB9 so I’m sorted for British summer time.

    I would need to know more about the cursory mention of it needing to have 'welding' before parting with my cash.

    • @neilgorin1037
      @neilgorin1037 Před 4 měsíci

      Exactly. Welding that's needed for an MOT is not a car that's been cosseted but more one where the owner knew when to bail out. Not least, if it wasn't an advisory on the previous MOT it must be rampant and if it was an advisory it'll have been issued with the classic line "I'd get rid before next year, mate".

    • @neilgorin1037
      @neilgorin1037 Před 4 měsíci

      Actually, just read the MOT history - it's had more patches than Windows 10 unfortunately, it's only going to keep getting worse

    A one owner, Pampered 50K mile XKR and it needed welding! These really are rot boxes as they use the old 1970's XJS platform, I bought a XK8 cheap from a mate but gave up on it as it was just rotten, Ended up selling it to a Polish guy who shipped it home but i made a nice ££ profit on it!

    I remember the first time I drove and XKR. It felt like it was tailor made for me - it just fit. I can't explain it but I've never felt a connection like it with a car since. I wasn't that impressed with the later model as it felt more BMW than Jag. I may spoil myself when I retire.

    I'm a Jag man myself and the X100 is a beautiful car. Well done for saving this one. Looks mint. I well expected the windscreen to be over £1000.

    I want one so bad, and an old Range Rover Sport , and an old Range Rover Vogue, and an XJ6, and an XJS. Sadly I'm retired and skint. I did when I had some money own an XJS 3.6 manual for 10yrs and loved it. Also a Rover P5B V8 Coupe in the 70's. When my premium bonds hit the jackpot I'll give HPA a call?

    One of my dream cars. Almost impossible to find one in this condition for a reasonable price here in Germany.

    These are gorgious cars, along with its sister car the Aston DB7 with which I am sure it shares a chassis. Back in the day I am surprised these did not sell a lot more as they were quite unique. I heard they had a problem with sulphur in the fuel back then damaging the nikasil bore liner coating and causing issues.

    Hi Matt, Well I guess it happens in life, one day you get in a car and it gives you all the right sensations and later on years down the line, you don't feel it anymore. We can say that you've moved on and it's quite normal really.
