@NinjaBacon Pro true but dogs trying to kill you or your kids is rare and most medium + sized dogs could but wouldn’t do the same. So while having a dog always has a slight risk Kangals are considered good with kids so their are definitely worse dogs to chose from as far as child friendliness.

Yes pit bulls are very strong but they are not natural guard dogs and that goes for all the Bully breeds. A guard dog that is happy with being in a home on a small lot would be the Rottweiler, German Shepherd, Dogo Argentino, Doberman, Chow Chow and the like. Bully breeds have a bad enough rep w/o making guard dogs out of them.
I've had pits for over 20 years and I never had any of them trained for guard duty. They are very human-oriented and to train them to attack humans is not a good thing to do.

I happen to own a kangal dog myself, named Boris.I can garuntee you these dogs, if socialized properly, would love nothing more than a little human to be their companion!
Boris is a family dog, he comes inside the house or out in the yard when he pleases.
Any small children or even adults get a kick out of his loving personality. He will roll onto his back and let kids climb all over him and he will wag his tail and just lick them.
A strong protector, easy to train, but just as loving as any other dog on the planet. If anybody tells you they aren't family dogs, they must not realize that any dog needs a family to love and love them back.
((Just in case anybody happens to see this and wants a kangal, I got mine from a breeder who was my teacher at the time. He was already almost out of his puppy stage and the family he was originally with abused him, resulting in the breeder taking him back and finding him a loving home with me))

these dogs for the most park are kept in villages where kids are always running around. If the dog shows aggression to the village people it is not favored or if bred out. This is the result of breeding a dog for thousands of years to live in the village with the people AND to guard its flock. These dogs actually make great family pets, as long as you are willing to put some work in.

Of have owned several Kangals for over twenty years. They are a very serious breed that needs to work. They are over 100 pounds, my female is 144. They need room to roam and good fences to keep them from traveling too far. They bark all night to keep predators away. They dig holes big enough to crawl into, and don’t care if you don’t like the location. They don’t act like a golden retriever, your praises are lost on them. Making you happy is not their purpose. They shed a massive amount of fur twice a year. They are very independent, which is why they are so effective for predator control. Mine have never killed a wolf, only chased them away.

It might be looking dangerous for a stranger but I have never seen a kangal attacked or even little bit hurt a kid. There has been a lot of reports from other kind of dogs attacks but not this one. My sister used to ride a dog like this when she was 4-5 years old. She was travelling in the village on the dog I never seen it barking. Same dog was fatal while protecting the pack or when any foreign animal was arround.

He felt that were under his protection and didn't like when the parents raised their voice to the kids. I warned partner to never discipline their children in front of him. ... That might have been ugly if they hadn't listened to me. 😱😱😱⚰️

Kangal need to be affectionate with kids. İn the village there is no room for child aggressive dogs and they are dealt with harshly. This is the result of thousands of years of living in villages with kids. These dogs are very intuitive. İ used to ride on the back of one when i was little, still remember that dog. He was nothing but gentle with me.
