Agreed that was a great OT to watch. Back and forth, too bad the big payoff didn't come for someone to score.
Saw something like this in AHL hockey live between the Cleveland Monsters (Columbus Blue Jackets) and the Toronto Marlies (Maple Leafs). At one point, they called too many men on the ice, so it was 4 on 3, Toronto. Cleveland killed the penalty and sent it to a shoot out, winning 2-1 both in the shoot out and the final score. Or was the most electric stretch of hockey I have ever seen and I go back to seeing the Cleveland Lumberjacks on the regular since 1992, the 'jacks being a goon squad style team that would have Avalanche/ Red Wings level rivalries with the Indianapolis Ice and Cincinnati Cyclones, including the fights. That's a long way of saying, I've seen a lot and the 3 on 3 OT with a shoot out is still the most exciting thing I have seen (if not top 3).
First minute I'm think, " well this is okay, but not amazing" then all those back to back to back chances happened O_o
3 on 3 OT was the greatest thing the NHL ever did!

What exactly is soooo bad about him?
I love 3 on 3 hockey, both teams have so much more control when they have possession. I know they could never change the rules of the 5 on 5 but especially with the NHL-size rinks and how fast the game has gotten it almost feels too crowded at times. This is just beautiful to watch.

unfortunately the road teams obvs have to travel or one of the teams have back to back games.

@nils4545 as ipermanently said, some teams have back to back games where they need to travel alot, you need to have shootout or else the games could go for too long. i dont mind since in playoffs atleast its different.
Then when your favorite player gets hurt because of extended overtimes y'all gonna be crying it's too long. That's why you cant have it go longer. 5mins is plenty and shootouts barley happen anymore.
When Mika had that chance, I thought it was game over and when he made the save my jaw dropped 10 feet. We still won though

I wish they could extend it just 5 more minutes. Still 3 on 3, with 10 minutes I cant see too many games going to a shootout. Plus we get to see more 3 on 3, more excitement. Better for the game overall.

I've literally never heard anyone say "long toss" when describing a two-line pass. Doc in his own world out there.
I watch a lot of the big 4 pro sports and when every other league goes to overtime and lose interest. NHL overtime is awesome.

Man, not a Rangers or Bruins fan but this was some amazing hockey. Wow! This kind of hockeys makes me wish they did two 5 minute 3 on 3 periods and if no one wins leave it at a tie. They've both earned the right to prevent the other team from getting the extra point.
Not a big Doc fan but he definitely enhanced this and called it well

The sports media here in the Boston area keeps taking about how poorly Halak has been playing lately. They need to watch how unbelievable he was in overtime here. Multiple breakaway saves, committing felony larceny against Zibanejad; it's hard to imagine a typical backup doing what he does regularly.

They should make overtime 3 on 3 for 10 minutes and play out the period... it would be fun for everyone, but the goalies

It was only two and a half minutes haha That was an awesome save but that number 47 on Boston almost killed the flow with his laziness.

There should just not be shootout at all. 20 minuites of 3 on 3 before shoot outs would be better.
