    This film is about the Dilated Cardiomyopathy (DCM) in Doberman Pinschers, a very frequent and lethal heart disease. It contains interviews with Doberman breeders, a private owner, and the veterinary cardiologists Dr. Wess (University of Munich) and Dr. Kresken (head of the board of cardiologists in Europa: Collegium Cardiologicum).
    Also Great Danes are affected with DCM, watch their film here:

    My doberman just got this at 4 years old, he is coming back home from emergency today or tomorrow, with who knows how many days left to live. It is gut wrenching to say the least. As much as we will smile and give him the best last few days of his life, we have a volcano of sadness inside us. Please pray my poor pup has good many days, and no suffering. The last 3 days in emergency was the first time he has been away from us and that was bad enough.

    This video has been online for over 5 years and still no progress regarding the DCM in this beautiful breed. I lost my beautiful Dobbie due to DCM last year when he was only 6 years and 10 months old. He just felt down out of nowhere. Recently I heard about two more cases in my neighbour. Situation in Europe was never worse.
    I feel devastated about all the dogs who suffered DCM. And their owners too.

    My beautiful Dobie Armani was diagnosed with DCM on 11/4/2013. I am in shock and at a loss. Thank you for your strength and for making this film available to everyone. Lives are still being lost!

    It just goes to show that its all about money. I take my hat off to the participants of this film and the fact that they are doing all they can to bring this awful DCM to the general public. It is sad that the organisations who are meant to be protecting the Doberman are the ones who are doing nothing but thwarting advancement of the eradication of this terrible gene. It all boils down to money! My heart felt condolences go out to those who have lost their babies to this disease. I have lost 2 to DCM so know how devastating it is.

      It really is devastating. I lost my beloved Black, a 8 years old doberman, the 26 of April 2019, almost 1 month ago. That day he lied to rest himself after having played with me for around 10 minutes with the ball like we always did and when i went to check him he moved to another place of the yard to lie down and he stopped breathing, his heart stopped. I didn’t know dobermans had this problem until after his death when I read about it. The breeder didn’t told me about this problem and neither the veterinarian. If I would have known this I wouldn’t have played with him that day and I would have acted differently in general knowing the disease existed.
      I miss my companion so much it’s almost unbearable to live without him on my side, we shared every moment of happiness and sadness and i wish i could have known and done more to save him. I wish also i could just see him one more time to give him a proper goodbye but i know it’s not possible. I feel the pain you must have felt when you lost them and i am sorry for your loss Karen

    Probably one of the better ways to help prevent the passage of DCM, would be to use older stud dogs and dams; that have had CLEAR dna tests, and have normal ekg.
    And to not line breed.

    Where can I go to sign this petition? Thank you for doing this. We were just having this tearful discussion having lost a wonderful dog at 7.5 years on May 31st. I knew the US was in trouble but not so much Germany. We need to all come together and demand our Clubs take an action.

    Is this petition still open? I signed but would like to keep passing it around? Has anything changed? Who can people write to? My friends lost their dear doberman just before he turned 7. He was one of my favorite dogs in our local park among our dog friends. A wonderful temperament, handsome and seemed strong. The owners were devastated, especially the woman because that was her very first dog. This was two years ago and they still put flowers where he collapsed. It was a shock to many of us and we were deeply saddened by the loss of this magnificent and loyal animals.

    Our Nikita is still with us but I fear we only have a few more months with her. This is truly shameful, shame shame shame on Dog Clubs for minimizing the obvious need to continue genetic studies and mandatory testing.

    I had a dobermann that was diagnosed with DCK with 15 years old, and with proper medication died a year after the diagnosed, his lungs and abdomen were full of water sometimes, and with medication we could reduce that water... Great study and keep up the good work.

    I actually purchased a dobermann from a top UK blood line. He fell in the park one day.. And internally bled to death. He had vwd. He was 11 months old. Can't stress enough to do alot of research on breeders before buying a dobermann. I've now got another dobermann from Lithuania. Excellent breeder.

      chezza Foster or just don't get a doberman at all, opt for at healthier breed or a crossbreed.

    • @chezza2116
      @chezza2116 Před 7 lety

      Luculencia well it's a fact that crossbreed dogs are much more healthier than pedigrees. Good point. 😎 I go for dobes as I've always had them. My favourite breed.

    • @Luculencia
      @Luculencia Před 7 lety +2

      chezza Foster
      My favourite breed is border collie and I'm lucky that it's a fairly healthy breed despite how inbred the breed is (I think the genetic variation in the breed is equivalent to 8 dogs or something ridiculous like that) - but border collie crossbreeds are just as great as the purebred version in my opinion so I'd be as happy with a cross as I would with a purebred (and likely the cross will be healthier).
      I'm sure you'd love a dobe cross as much (maybe more!) than a purebred and you'd have a much lower chance that your dobe would suffer from DCM (or other genetic illness) one day.

    • @chezza2116
      @chezza2116 Před 7 lety

      Luculencia yes true. Less health problems for sure. Border collies are the most intelligent breed also. Good choice. 👌

    I'm seriously contemplating getting another purebred breed, but I am wondering if a crossbreed would be better. I love Dobermanns have done for years I always wanted one, I doubt I will ever though. We're thinking of getting a cocker, but even they have big problems. 😔

    I lost my beautiful boy two days ago to sudden cardiac death. He was 6 years and 3 months old. He was running and dropped dead in a neighbours garden. It took us a day to find him. I have had three Dobermans and have a female who will be tested shortly. I had no idea about the prevalence of DCM. I love the Doberman breed but am considering not keeping them anymore - the heartache is terrible. My Doberman was full of energy and had a real zest for life and gone in seconds. The problem is, if it can only be detected in older breeding dogs, breeders will be reluctant to start again with breeding. I am going to sign the petition if open, it is horrific for dogs and owners. For many breeders, it's a business.

      +Gerald Dalsin When you listen carefully you notice that the first couple have had a kennel since 1989. And that video is not a real enrichment of knowledge. It is frustrating drain of those who have lost a dog. But themselves they did nothing against. - The causes of the disease have not yet been explored. Many other breeds have this problem. Just as we humans.

    • @Luculencia
      @Luculencia Před 7 lety +2

      E. M. B. The gene causing it has not been discovered but it's known that it is inherited - otherwise there wouldn't be SO many doberman with the disease and so few of the other breeds.
      This is a fault of purebred breeding and purebred breeding cannot fix it. Either we let the doberman breed die out entirely or we outcross with other breeds to introduce some variation.

    very TRUE!!!! The BH test to allow Dobermans to bred in Europe does not help here either.

  • @Dobiedoo2
    @Dobiedoo2 Před 11 lety

    The problem is REAL. It exists in all countries, not just Europe or USA; FACT. I know breeders in USA still producing AFFECTED Vwd puppies.ly. My point is, there is still no perfect explanation for controlling it, but at least breeders should test. Some have said they won't test because a CLEAR test doesn't mean the dog, or its line won't show up with it. .
    NC State Vet School has a lot of info about it there. Dr. Meurs has webinars available there; cant post links here.
