I don't think the hook rope spear stick thing is another weapon. I think it's just a unique tool that that specific NPC has and uses, like the crossbow-slinger the Tracker had in World.
Between the suspicious lack of monsters like Plesioth, Zamtrios and Gobul in Rise, the ripple on the title of Wilds, two of the three FULLY revealed monsters being partially inspired on aquatic animals and the new fishing spear-like weapon (?) in the NPC's hand, it really looks like SOMETHING very watery is cooking
I don’t know… I feel like if underwater combat was in the game, they would’ve shown it by now. Don’t get me wrong I want it back as well, but I just don’t think it’s very likely.
@@peterduprey7286 they haven't shown much of anything. All we've seen is desert and 4 large monsters but obviously the game will consist of more than that. Underwater combat is a huge deal, if anything they're saving that reveal for last right alongside the flagship.
@@peterduprey7286 Why would they have shown it already with Gamescom coming up? They've revealed next to nothing because there hasn't been a platform big enough yet for the huge reveals.
@@peterduprey7286 Idk, firstly I'm not willing to give up hope, secondly I feel like ever since fatalis/alatreon (but not necessarily including rise) they've gotten a taste for surprising players more instead of showing everything
@@m.d.diablos4423 if underwater was a thing they wouldnt have picked a bloodly desert as the general area
I get it, underwater needs to come back and we get all those associated monsters, but there is nothing so far that indicates that it's going to happen
1 the predominated locale is a desert, aka very little water
2 we've seen no hint of so much as a large river let alone an entire ocean
3 the only "swimming" creatures we've seen are a sand burrowing leviathan that's clearly not suited for water, and an amphibian that's clearly predominantly land based
Josh: “you’re gonna be wanting to fight on foot as much as possible because that’s where your full potential is”
Insect Glaive users: “that one hurt, man”
To be fair, you're still technically on foot when soaring through the air with a glaive even if those feet aren't touching the ground.
One thing i like about the Seikret auto-dodging is that it makes it feel like it has it's own mind. It's not just a bike
personally i think that thinking of it like an "auto-dodge" is one way of looking at it, the way i see it, Capcom having been trying to create a deeper and more living world since World, this is an extension of that, your mount is reacting on its own, it doesnt want to be hit, and it does want you to be hit, just like any living animal or person it attempts to move out of the way. i doubt it will have a 100% success rate as well.
My theory is since were hunting packs of monsters our mount needs to dodge automatically so that you can focus on hitting and running while being smacked around by multiple monsters, like do we really wanna be pressing the dodge button the whole time not getting a single hit in.
@erianpeterson3431
Personally, yes, I want to press the button every time.
Realistically, it doesn't matter. MH never really lets us down, and I'm sure it'll work out fine either way
@@erianpeterson3431some MH players might hate auto-dodge because it will be considered trivializing MH experience. Auto-guard, evade+ are considered noob skill in the early MH.
@@KaneA87 I'm sure we'd be able to do both.
If pack monsters are a new feature then what would a flock of Bazelgeuse be called?
A gaggle of bagels?
A B52 squadron
a boom of bazels :D
A squadron of Bagels/Geus
A squadron of Bazels
A squadron of bazels
Honestly, the auto-dodge makes a lot of sense. Animals are smart enough to recognise danger and avoid it and it takes a LOT of training and trust to get an animal to willingly go into a dangerous situation, so the Seikret (being a monster itself) dodging attacks is... Actually quite natural!
I’m really hoping for the seikret gets subtle, yet useful defensive mechanics like that auto-dodge, but they’re easily interruptible if you panic and try to steer manually.
It could be a whole game mechanic around learning to trust your mount and let it do its job, because you can get the both of you hurt if you try to do its job for it.
If you can learn to not get in its way, it can be there for you. Would be a mechanics as metaphor feature I’m pretty sure could win some awards.
Right and we already saw it auto jump on the rocks in the first trailer.
I'm fairly sure the 'Hook stick' is just a item the guy has to fend off small monsters and not something for a Hunter to use. At best I'd guess it would function like the Harpoon item in tri.
I think he is most likely just a random NPC / researcher you encounter, so not a hunter that is proficient with the typical weapons we use. So it is most likely just a random spear, and not a new main weapon.
But we can DREAM
It´s a survival cane for civilians! Nothing more.
Just like the Tracker's crossbow.
It's pretty much just a trekking poles
I'm thinking it's more of a hook to redirect monsters, or possibly to mount them and ride them. Something like a mix of the clutch claw from World, mixed with the Wirebug riding from Rise. Also, might be something like a lightning rod for the Stormtide (and maybe the "Thormagala")
I feel like that's going to be our mounting tool for this game. It looks a *_LOT_* like a boarding pike, which generally speaking is used for rapid traversal on a ship, but it would have good uses on large monsters & keeping connected to them. Actually, with that in mind, it's possible that that's a replacement for the Clutch Claw's traversal & mounting mechanics, used to both increase elevation in places perhaps too tight for our Seikret to move through with a rider, as well as draw yourself back onto the monster if you get bucked off
Maybe it's going to be like DD2 mountain with some mh quirks and Perks
We have the slinger, if they wanted a clutch claw like mechanic they could just reintigrate the actual clutch claw rather than some bootleg version.
It will function like Wirebugs but renamed to fit MH Wilds narrative.
The rope almost just looks like a sling for him to put it on his back
The Balahara is like this beautiful cross between Dalamadur's burrowing scales that let it drill through the earth and Almudron's sleek noodle-like mobility plus muck. The mouth, while it does give me slight Deviljho vibes, is like a tricone drill used in mining. It's a truly creative and wonderful design.
Guys..... what if, FIST WEAPONS!!!
It's what I want
Would certainly be a good way to provide a fast impact type weapon. Hammer and Hunting Horn are all well and good, but more options are good.
I can finally be like the admiral and square up against a rajang
they're called tonfas and you got those in frontier
Tonfas.
I think the autododge on the mount is fine, since it will make traversal across the world much more convenient, I doubt you can just hop on while in the middle of combat and automatically dodge everything. I think it's specifically useful for moments where you just wanna avoid everything on your way to a hunt.
Plus I think it just makes sense cause your "ride" is a living creature, obviously it won't wait for your command if danger is going to hit him.
Like as the zelda devs mentioned, real horses aren't going to run into trees.
I doubt that the village scout's weapon is something we as Hunters will use. I think it's more likely just something that village guards/scouts would have since they don't have the complex smithing that the Guild has. As for our new mystery Monster (NOT "Thor Magala"), the *LIGHTNING RAILGUN SEREGIOS* as he should be known as, he definitely seems adapted to harness the Sandtide storms.
I was thinking the same thing, these villagers seem to be disconnected from the guild thus not familiar with how to make guild weapons so they make do with what they got
I don't know man, I kinda like Thor Magala ngl 😅
This is definitely Rath skeleton
Not a Railgun either more like a Coilgun
The "Automatically evade" is probably not a DODGE as in combat dodge, but evade agitating the monster to get into combat while you're auto running to a specific location.
Uuuuh completely wrong considering they r in combat when this happens
No, it is explicitly an "auto-dodge" in combat, probably very similar to a (likely weakened) evade mantel.
@Cumbernumb was that not a cutscene?
So not “you won’t get hit” and more “you won’t get too close too/engage the monster/s”
@@LastKnight0727 It didn't look like it.
The hook claw he has could just be the Native form of Clutch Claw - He's not wearing one after all. Throw the staff, hook a ledge, climb the rope. It's a navigation tool.
I'd say the auto-dodge is only when you're in "travel mode", basically when you're more focused on getting from point A to point B rather than actual combat. Basically removing the hassle of being knocked off your mount by stuff you're not focused on.
to be fair, I think auto dodge is more realistic to me. If the little guy sees a hulking leviathan launching at them, they are going to try and dodge it even without your input. lol
I think the challenge of choosing what to do while mounted will more than make up for the challenge lost from auto dodge.
Also him freeze in place because of fear is realistic
@@mihairazvan5540 not if it is properly trained. Like war horses don't panic or freeze up in battle.
@@LunarValkyriaif a well trained horse was face-to-face with a literal dragon, I doubt loyalty would overcome the intense urge to run away!
On the Playstation blog it says "...or the Seikret can be directed to avoid monsters automatically" which makes it sound like a configurable setting like auto/manual sheathe.
@@alexedwards5152yeah but this isn’t a horse it’s a raptor that’s trained specifically for big monsters like these
The mount is a bird and probably smart. Would make sense it would jump out of the way of attacks. The weapon isn’t new. It’s just a harpoon. He was probably fishing in sands. Underwater confirmed.
I feel like it's more a tool than a weapon. The Handler tells the boy he'll find out what hunting "is all about" implying he has a limited/lack of understanding of it. If he is part of this group of people in the Forbidden lands, that implies they go about their lives coexisting with or maybe just avoiding monsters as much as possible because they can't/won't fight them, and this hook spear is something that assists in that lifestyle. It could be their version of the slinger: scooping up ammo and then flinging it at monsters with more force than just throwing it, at most holding off small monsters. But it seems to small to be able to bring down a large monster. Even BD and SnS are chunkier than this item.
The spear tool must be something like auto follow tool. When you hook it to a large monster your seikret will follow the monster automatically and give you a moment to attack the monster with long range weapon without focusing on controlling your mount.
The end of the stick that guy is holding looks like the new hook shot from the slinger.
I just notice the Palico is now riding on the tail of the mount!
I kinda just think its a staff or stick he just carries or uses it to walk like a walking stick. Thats just my thoughts until more footage comes out. If it is a weapon, maybe bowspear lol or something adjacent to insect glaive
If he is a non combative/not a hunter it could be for hiking/traversal and to have something with a point to deter small monster attacks when on the wild.
I think (due to the article saying your seikret can be *directed* to automatically dodge) that we'll have to do an input or hold a button/buttons to auto dodge, and once we do dodge there'll be a down time where you cant attack. In the trailer scene where they show the dodge off, after the dodge, it looks like the hunter zooms with their bowgun, but can't attack with it straight away. I think mounted combat will actually be encouraged, but the dodge will prevent you from just dodge hit dodge hit dodge hit over and over, by preventing you from using your weapon for a few seconds after a dodge.
Edit: Im pretty sure Seikret is pronounced Sey-kret. Unless there's an official pronunciation guide I missed.
I really want a whip especially for the desert theme, i will be a monster cowboy
If we need 1 bird wyvern from the old games, Great Wroggi would be a must
Then you’d have a badass cowboy hat!
A whip would be so fun. Imagine the weapon designs
The other hunter’s armament looks more like some kind of tool to me, almost like the harpoon from mh3. It doesn’t look girth enough to be a new weapon, but who knows.
yeah I feel the same way. Even dual blades as the smallest weapon type have a certain "weight" to their look that tells you its much tougher than a regular weapon.
could be a tool, we get from him later on. Maybe for traversing difficult terrain on our seikreit
I agree, looks like the harpoon from MH3. Will probably be used on a possible aquatic map given the ripples in Wilds and lack of aquatic monsters in the previous gen among other things
Might be a tool for mounting extremely large monsters....if the game is open world and these massive monsters appear outside quests it would make sense that we would need a rope spear or similar device to climb these monsters when not encountered in pre-planned mounting locations/situationa like in previous games
Thinness in it's own way could be part of the weapon's signature look.
My guess is its a tether. You hook it into a monster and hook the other end on the ground or a rock and it holds the monster in place for a few seconds.
I'm guessing that's just a weapon the npc is holding doubt its our 15th weapon could be interesting but it's probably like seekers cane from world
I'm wondering if that "harpoon" is more like their version of a slinger. Like how the Admiral just throws his. if it is anything, perhaps additional tool for hunting, like spear fishing. It could even be a slimmed down version of the glaive -if- anything. Bit the feathers would mean there's a "big" version of the Seikret.
Maybe the spear isnt a weapon in this trailer, but after these events we collaborate with the village to make a weapon in this design? Like they have spears in the village and we make them better to be used in actual hunts
I still have my own personal idea of a 15th Whip Weapon
It will act as a weaker hitting but longer range long sword. Each hit will have a certain build up and if you hit the same spot 3+ times you'll gain access to a special move cashing in all that latent dmg like a weaponized version of the Tenderizer mechanic
You'll also have certain grapple mechanics taken from the Clutch Claw allowing you to either close or increase the distance between you and the monster with certain moves
And it'll have animations similar to Belmont's whip in Castlevania
A whip would be cool, but so would a harpoon thing. Throw it, and then decide to yank it free to do small damage and remain at a distance, or pull yourself in to slam it in for big damage.
@@marmyeater why not both? use the other end of the rope like a whip, then use the pointy stick like a short spear/harpoon. as it appears right now it seems rather... tiny/ underwhelming as a new weapon compared to the massive size of the others so some extra shenanigans in the move department could help it feel like it belongs
The same manga that gave us proto Barioth and Val Hazak had a guy using a giant chain whip so why not. Monster Hunter Orage btw
@@wolffang-vz2ty I'd rather a Whip and Harpoon than a Harpoon Whip, but it could be cool.
A chain/whip like sword would be so cool. I wanna feel like Ivy from SC while hunting monsters.
auto dodge being toggle-able would be sick because it gives the seikret a mind of its own in a sense makes it seem alive and independent to degree.
Im pretty sure he is going to be like the Field master old lady from world who had that two handed Slinger weapon
For the auto dodge part, I think it's also to ease the complexity of the controls, especially if you can use your weapons, items, slinger and look back while running forwards. Also showing that your mount is intelligent enough.
I thought it may be his version of the slinger. Because the slinger is so new, this may be the equivalent of the new grabbing mechanic on the slinger
I think it is either a way to upgrade the control on the secret mount, or an incect glave.
I don't think the Throwing spear is the 15th weapon, I think it's this one NPC slinger/claw
But if it is the 15th weapon I would like it a LOT
I have always loved the concept of a Spear and Thread weapon in the game. The idea of being able to throw a spear and either pull it back towards you or to pull yourself towards the monster sounds so dynamic. I have considered the idea of adding kinsects to such a weapon as well. Doing so could give you more reasons to raise and craft more varieties of kinsects and giving a spear and thread weapon a kinsect can be your reason for creating thread during a hunt. The weapon could operate on a resource bar that fills up to represent the amount of thread you have at any given time and any attacks that use the tread could use that resource. For the sake of versatility the weapon could also have a sort of super move that consumes all of your thread to slow down a monsters movements temperedly.
I have always wanted a spear type weapon so holding out for that.
What if it's like a spirit spear that is connected to the Seikret? Whenever it attaches to something, you can attack with the seikret? Maybe?
It's probably like the harpoon from tri, it's for smaller mobs that trigger rarer drops. It's an item most likely.
Just a theory, but a lot of speculation regarding the lightning monster is that its the Flagship monster. However even if this is true perhaps its not the ONLY Flagship for Wilds? With the heavy emphasis on the locales, what if each locale had a Flagship Monster that plays a major role in the story. Simialr to Gen Ultimate and its 4? Reasoning is that this monster revealed seems specifically designed for the first area, unless the lighting storms play a bigger role? 🤔
The Windward Plains have the Sandtide, maybe the Ice biome has the “Diamond Dust”, a fine mist consisting of extremely cold and razor sharp ice crystals that whittle away at your stamina rapidly and gives you Iceblight within seconds, with a powerful monster using it as either a weapon and/armour
And the lava biome have a good old fashioned volcanic eruption from a very active volcano, which causes ash to fall, the earth to shake and lava bombs to rain down on you
And a beachside/forest biome might have torrential rain and hurricane force winds that inflict Waterblight and wind pressure
The Idea of Mounted combat sounds interesting .One idea pop in my head when your when riding the Palamute was What could Charge monster like Knight does in impale my foe and such .
Do we have any confirmation on weather or not we will even be able to control the secrt freely or if it's just an auto mount
I love how "Frontier" Railgun Steve looks, it's great to see crazier designs in the main series
The spear makes me think of a sort of fishing spear, meant to be thrown and retracted. Which would make sense in a world that has sand fish
Maybe the stickropethingy is something like a harpoon you can use while mounted. You throw it and circle around a la empire strikes back and topple a monster. Ropes are craftable and limeted to lets say 1 or 2 per hunt, pretty much like traps, for balancing reasons. Maybe?
Like clutch claw. It could also be used to spear monsters and mount them. Would be cool
It definitely looks like some kind of harpoon/grappling tool. But I think it's a tool only he has, similar to when the field master had that slinger crossbow tool in MHW
I wonder if we might get a spear/harpoon weapon? Or maybe we take the hook of the end and use it for the hook slinger?
Bows and bowguns might be able to make specific builds for being mounted, and as basically every lance player has been hoping for maybe they'll be able to make jousting builds as well.
Kind of reminds me of just the staff/walking stick the first wyverians hold in World.
Bro I didn’t realize until now that the character switched weapons on the Seikret having the heavy bow gun in a pouch on the right side from a greatsword.
I think the hook stick rope thing..could be a weapon made from the stuff they did with the wire bugs in rise ...
it would make sense to not completely ditch that mechanic from rise but turn it into a weapon that sees you using a spear with a hook on it to attack and also spiderman around the monster..
Hook spear rope thing. I think the word you’re looking for is harpoon.
I think its probably an insect glave... which like awesome cool insect glave, but i think they would make a TOTALLY distinct design rather than insect hpave minus insect plus tiny hook
Looks like it might be used similarly to a harpoon
Pull and pin monsters
The rope that’s attached to the spear is so it can be attached to his back
I think it's a javelin you can use while mounted where it sticks to the monster, and you use the mount to pull the monsters over or knock them off balance..
Ik i also thought it seemed like a clutch claw extension type thing josh is trying to milk this as much as possible 😭😭 he even talks extra slowly in these videos
@borzoilover4156 A harpoon would be a cool weapon though, and all the points he made about it are valid theories. It's not like seeing the melder's spoon and going: OH MY GOD THE FIFTEENTH WEAPON WAS SHOWN!
My theory on the new equipment is just probably a staff that the villager use but if not, seeing that the spike and hook part of the spear eluded me to believe just something to attach on a monster to not lose track of it. Or if I'm a bit crazy, the spike part can be charged with the lightning from the environment to be a one time elemental damage nuke
We know you loved the clutch claw so now we bring you the clutch stick
Multiple angles of attack from several monsters at once will Def make the auto dodge feel welcome. I would feel safe to assume the dodge will either be overridden by hunter actions [sharpen etc] or will interrupt such actions so no dodge and heals.
I wouldn't bet in a new weapon maybe the spear thingy is just like the crossbow slinger that appears when the old lady is fighting the odogaron in the mh world
1st I think the staff the NPC was holding is just some sort of walking staff or seikrat Shepard staff. 2nd seeing the hunter clash with monsters just goes to show how insanely strong the hunters are 😆
World and Iceborne the Tracker's weapons, the sling gun thing, is unique to her.
I did notice one of the rocks (on the left hand side) had a yellow "rock" at 00:46 and throughout the trailer. Maybe you can use the clutch claw on it, or if the thing the NPC is holding, you can use it on that. Or it may just be me overthinking, and it's ammo for the clutch claw, lol.
What if his spear is like a combination of grappling and spear.
Grappling and and use physics in order to launch your spear attacks or evading a monster.
A few hours ago i watched the trailer at 0.75x speed to examine it and i saw the spear and i was like is that a new weapon
00:25 Waiting Wilders
As for the "weapon" I also believe its a Seikret tool. It may be unlocked probably not unlike the palico gadgets from World.
It looks a great deal like an Atlatl but I dunno if its used like one.
I think it works a lot like a rope dart (maybe clutch claw esk?) Where you can throw it at a wall and maybe make a trip rope. Throw it to cut a rope for a trap. Throw it at a weakened running monster and yank on it to slow or topple hem briefly.
I wish the accel axe back would be brought back one day
what if its a control stick aka you fight atop and along side the secret raptor thing so some your attacks command it to jump in to also attack like great izuchi
I’d love for one of the one off weapons to come back. Vast majority never had the chance to play with them.
What if Gemma sees it and has an idea how to make it into a weapon that would work for you fighting large monsters and then 15th weapon reveal. Could be done through the story in the beginning
Im guessing this "weapon" of that NPC is his own little thing becouse when you look at his left arm he doesnt have clutch claw, so im guessing its his weapon/claw toolbthats specific to locals but as we have c-claw it will be unavailable for us
I don't think it is a weapon the guy is holding, but if it WAS I would take a guess it's a weapon that let's you control and order the seikert in combat. It has the seikert feathers on it, and if I remember there was some concept art of a dog/canine weapon that you ordered to attack for you. If the seikert was attacking for you it would make more sense to have it be a smaller weapon that is harder to use by itself
Edit: Look up "Monster Hunter Hunting Hound" and you should find it
I'm actually half curious on your felyne companion, since that's very much your combat companion, but it doesn't immediately appear to have any of the conventional felyne weapons on their back, just what appears to be a fishing rod.
The mystery man's Seikret has shoes on.
Might be an insect glaive, or a mountijg thing
I wouldn’t mind a nice spear weapon that has a unique fighting style to it.
Hey so what if the new monster is like a regional variant of zinogre based on his original concept design? Like a rare species but instead of being just a mutation, it's an entire alternate evolutionary path from the same common ancestor. I think that would be really cool
does anybody else think a harpoon style equipment would fit with the herd/pack mechanic given how the equipment in question looks
The first monster seems based on a mole, it may have a ground attack, maybe it will throw rocks at you.
After Dragons Dogma 2 guards having complete move sets with weapons that have no associated class I wouldn't be surprised if it was a weapon but one only he can use.
It reminds me of the hunting hound Capcom concept art. It had a monster part themed baton that paired with a dog and you used the baton to issue commands. The hounds became Palamutes and exceeded the functionality of the original concept though.
what if its a light blade from that concept but its directing the secret sort of monster hunter stories riders weapon set up hunter working with a monster theme. so possibly if it also has rope chain whip chain scythe reel in moves and it being smaller less damaging could possibly after the reel in or swing round the monster secret comes in and picks you up or catches you in mid combo if doing aerial combo
A weapon I would love to see is a wreckingball or large yo-yo type weapon on a chain with 2 modes, one where its connected to the gauntlet and one where you can swing it around. The kode swap could be somethin that launches the wreckingball at the monster, and the retraction could cause them to flinch towards you or something.
Yeah thats just a piece of sharpened bone tied to a long branch. It's just a flavorful little tool that a scout would bring out to not kill anything large but at least offer some kind of deterrent
Either rope dart,spear, or bullhook
Mystery man is a Seikret trainer/breeder of some sort. What he has is possibly a harpoon, or an alternative to the slinger. He does not fight like the Hunter so he clearly is an NPC.
probably a game mechanic exposing character like the Hunstman(when he"s not on time out)
So, the weapon thing he carries looks like it has a rope meant to be thrown and used to pull things. in one of the trailers they mentioned the slinger having a hook thing to collect gatherables as you ride your seikret. maybe we just unlock the gathering hook after saving that guy
The rope's connected to both ends. It can't feasibly do that.
@@connorthompson9 Detachable hook with the opposite end anchored to the staff and the rope is wrapped around it to keep the rope out of the way during travel
Or dual guns that can combine into a rifle, shotgun, or lasgun? Or just let you boosted jump/dash/fly by just shooting in the opposite direction.
Since the npc doesn't have a Slinger, it looks like the spear is what rakes it's place
The rope looks more like a sling
Imagine the stick weapon is a magic staff
Doesn't the 'Glop' kinda look like gog goo? The tar stuff?
it does, now that i look at it.
We still dont haven't a stand alone axe. Unless you count excellaxe.
The switch axe is mostly focused around the sword, and is even called switch blade in Japanese.
I want a type of mace weapon. A great mace or something. Basically a hammer with a chain/rope and more ways to use traps and items. I think coming up with more traps to craft would be a good addition to the hunts. Make crafting consumables just as important and fun as crafting weapons and armor.
I feel like the auto avoid make sense since we are on a mount that would obviously not want to get hit since it is an animal and since it seems like we will return to world style of monsters being living breathing creatures that have behaviors and ecological restraints. One being the return of Rathians Tail sever actually reduce the poison chance.
3:09-3:15 considering the image i'm looking at, we have a Leviathan with a full-on stream, and not just a projectile.
still hope we'll get a fire-breather.
