After living in So Cal in Orange County for 47 years and moving to Knoxville last year, it's so nice to have the Smoky Mountains in my backyard and be able to enjoy Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge is truly a blessing.
I lived in the Huntington Beach area from 1978 -1994.I wanted to go back 🏡 too.My hubby grew up in LA.I was last in G'burg 3 yrs ago.I can see the bare hills from the fires.
I grew up going to Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge every spring break. The inside of Ober hasn’t really changed a whole lot since I can remember as far back as the mid-90’s lol The smell is unmatched too. Whenever I walk in there, it smells like my childhood.
The smell of Ober is so nostalgic! Hadn’t been up there since I was a kid, and went back up there while on my honeymoon, and it ALL came back! I hope it never changes.
Adam I was laughing so hard when your feet were running on the wood planks, comedy Gold. It was also nice to see your mom and dad a few videos back. Hope they're both feeling great!.
Love the Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge area…one of my happy places. Nothing better than renting a cabin in the mountains and watching the sunrise and sunset over the mountains.
I only visited Ober once, and that was like 6 months ago. But the atmosphere totally made it feel like I had been there as a kid. Pure nostalgia time capsule . I know it’s in need to update in order to complete with the newer attractions, but I hope it can do that without changing too much.
I always miss you when I go. Either you go right before I do. Or you're there right after! You're the main reason I've been going back to Gatlinburg. I love it. I hope to live there in the near future
Oh I wish I could share pictures on here! I lost my sunglasses in the same ski left a couple years ago! Lol. I also have some pretty neat pictures of the water ride working and Ober Gatlinburg when I was a kid there. So neat to see this again! 30 years ago we used to go down there every year and stay at the mountain side motor lodge. I re-created our trip about five years ago. Thanks for sharing this with us Adam!
We use to always go to Gatlinburg, pigeon forge at Christmas. Always loved it ! I've been there during snow storms and seen it drop 1 to 2 feet of snow overnight. Absolutely beautiful....thanks Adam...✌

Ober, Mountain Mall & Coligny Plaza in Hilton Head amaze me. The original build was done so long ago & the owners don’t do regular updates while the surrounding area does. Like a kind uncle that still rock his polyester suit.
I am 52 and have been coming to G'burg 2 to 3 times a year since I was 6 years old. Ober has always been my go to spot when I wanted to step back in time and go back to Old Gatlinburg. I could get away from the crowds of Gatlinburg and now that is going change. I am ok with change I have to be or else I would never return, but this really saddens me I am sure there will be another beer/moonshine/wine tasting establishment up there...as if it needs another one. I get the feeling they are slowly turning the little mountain town into a smaller version of Nashville at least that was it appears to be. Regardless it will always be Ober Gatlinburg to me.
Oh so that’s Mt. Harrison. Love that name. It looks like the name of that attraction is just changing slightly. Looks like it will be Ober Mountain instead of Ober Gatlinburg. At least that’s what I see on the internet. That really is a cool retro looking place to go to. The ariel tramway reminds me of the way to get up Stone Mountain too. I liked the corny jokes that the tramway attendant made. Lol. I can totally understand why you love the quietness and listening to nature and the mechanics of the chair lift. It is so nice to be able to hear that. Usually when you go on those things you are just listening to a bunch of people making noises. It’s nice when there is just quiet for a little while. I am the same way.
The last time that I visited Ober was around the mid 80s and it looks exactly as I remember it! Amazing! And, why are bears and other dangerous creatures so damn cute? It's the fur. Most furry creatures are appealing.
We love Ober, sooooo many great memories from there. My earliest memory is traveling to the top when I was in 2nd grade, so 1982ish, to eat at the German restraunt that was up there. I have ice skated there numerous times, skied there once, and been on the alpine slide once. I loved taking my older kids up there when they were little. I can't wait to share it with my youngest kiddo. With the name change it will be called Ober Mountain. It seems, from what I read, the people that bought it from the family that owned Ober Gatlinburg, will be doing great things with it to keep tbe nostalgia but clean it up a little.
Also, you talked about it reminding you of a film. The movie Hot Tub Time machine reminds me of Gatlinburg and Ober of my past. That's part of why I love the movie so much.

We're sad to hear it's sold, and according to a commenter below the current signage will be gone. I hope they leave everything as is. I never been there but it looks awesome! It looks like they could film an episode of STRANGER THINGS up there with that retro look! I think it's very expensive though especially if some of the rides and attractions aren't working or are close for the season already. They got them Beverly Hill prices up there in the mountains of Tennessee. 💰

Ober was purchased by the owners of Ole Smoky Distilleries. It’ll be called Ober Mountain (such a boring name). Hopefully they don’t ruin it. I’m local and have been visiting Ober since I was very small… so much nostalgia. Really hoping the ice skating and alpine slides stay! No grizzlies here btw… we have black bears. 😊
Hey Cristin, the name leaves a lot to be desired but I think the new ownership will work. Joe Baker and two others bought the entire facility. He owns Ole Smoky Moonshine and Yee-Haw Brewery so they should do well for a full food overhaul.. and the Octoberfest period. Mark Adams is the new CEO (former President of the Gatlinburg Convention and Visitors Bureau). If they take the alpine slides and skating... I'm out! LOL
i love the quietness of the lift. So peaceful. Soothing voice cadence. I'm happily married, and my wife would tell you i love to adventure off on my own. My company went to the State Fair, and as soon as we were done with our primary group event i went off on my own. I dont know. I just love the freedom by myself can provide at times (actually quite often).

Remember going there in the 90s. It was good to see some things there have not changed. I watched my neice compete in ice skating, then checked the zoo out. Rode the sky lift. I was afraid as we got closer to the bottom, a bear would grab us. It didn't, but always on my mind lol.
Wow, it's definitely the off season! Not much going on there. Too bad the Alpine Slide was closed, that was my favorite. And the arcade is looking a little forgotten. Interested to see if they make any major changes, hope they keep that 70's vibe.

I love the old feeling in there im the one who loves seeing old school going still and abandoned stuff..but going up there made me feel like back in 90s. Yes they removed lots things

Not going to lie, this summer we were there. The place is so run down, arcade is ancient, the mountain coaster I genuinely did not feel safe on compared to others in the area, prices are not great, and the silly snow tubing you didn't go very far since the water sprayers weren't working.
Hi Adam recently Super Enthused was there and while filming from the top of one of the mountains she captured a bear just feet away from the people being towed up the mountain on one of those luge rides. The man on the ride was unaware the bear was there because it was in the brush. It was a scary site and good that the man on the ride didn’t see the bear. I never thought of that possibility until I saw that and it would absolutely deter me from going on one of those rides. I wouldn’t think you’d be in imminent danger but wouldn’t want to come face to face with a bear. The lifts look like a lot of fun and it’s surprising to see all of the activities at the top of the mountain. It is a beautiful area.
When we were there we were watching the bears in the zoo area and someone yelled hey look a real bear … there was wild bear right outside the zoo area … it was pretty funny. We enjoyed our day there but was very crowded when we were there.😊
Hope that Nicole doesn't impede any travel plans. 😬 So much to see in the smokey mountains! There are rentals 4 bikes just incase the slide was calling you, fun times fun times
There may be some ASMR fans who would appreciate parts of this video. Some of the unsilence gave me chills and ASMR doesn't often work on me, but riding that chair lift with Adam whispering that was ASMR territory.
The new owners are renaming it Ober Mountain .And although it is very nostalgic, it's a bit on the run down side. The new owners are planning on beating new life into Ober. But i still love the place
I could never get my parents to spring for admission to do the Xanadu House thing...The Haunted Mansion and Ripleys were all they were budgeting for in Gatlinburg in our many visits.
Actually I think it was Will and Dawn from Yankee in the South, that recently said Ober Gatlinburg was purchased by Ol Smoky Moonshine. So they said the name will change to Ober Mountain as well as the ownership. And they plan on doing updates since it hasn't had anything done since the 70's
Another touristy place not too far from Gatlinburg, TN, is Cherokee, NC. This is an Indian reservation owned by the Cherokee Indians with several museum-like attractions and a casino. They kind of shut some of their attractions down in winter time.

When we were there we were watching the bears in the zoo area and someone yelled hey look a real bear … there was wild bear right outside the zoo area … it was pretty funny. We enjoyed our day there but was very crowded when we were there.😊

There may be some ASMR fans who would appreciate parts of this video. Some of the unsilence gave me chills and ASMR doesn't often work on me, but riding that chair lift with Adam whispering that was ASMR territory.
The new owners are renaming it Ober Mountain .And although it is very nostalgic, it's a bit on the run down side. The new owners are planning on beating new life into Ober. But i still love the place

I could never get my parents to spring for admission to do the Xanadu House thing...The Haunted Mansion and Ripleys were all they were budgeting for in Gatlinburg in our many visits.
Actually I think it was Will and Dawn from Yankee in the South, that recently said Ober Gatlinburg was purchased by Ol Smoky Moonshine. So they said the name will change to Ober Mountain as well as the ownership. And they plan on doing updates since it hasn't had anything done since the 70's

The first time I was in Gatlinburg was the early 80s the alpine slide was free my brother and I raced down while my parents walked down. Lol

Another touristy place not too far from Gatlinburg, TN, is Cherokee, NC. This is an Indian reservation owned by the Cherokee Indians with several museum-like attractions and a casino. They kind of shut some of their attractions down in winter time.
A few of their attractions remain open in winter.
Visit it before it’s gone. Only a very few places are open nowadays.
