- First long distance thru-hike, first solo wild camp, first (terribly edited) vlog thing...what's next 2020?! Here's me bumbling around the North of England in search of a good pint and occasionally getting lost in the process.
Sorry about the bad audio. I'll get better next time.
Enjoy!
Aw I did the Pennie Way North to South this year too and I'd already started to cry a little bit just before you came on crying lol, so many lovely memories here it really took me back. Well done!
Life changing stuff I reckon, you should feel very proud. What a wonderful country we live in, I hope this has given you the appetite to enjoy more of our gorgeous national trails. Really loved your video and so nice to share part of the experience with your cool mum. 🙏
Well done Alice, wonderful footage. I did the PW in 1974 and 5, remember it like yesterday. Thanks for uploading.
You're spot on there.
Stunning! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Wishing I could have hiked alongside you but as I am 73 years of age and on the wrong side of the Atlantic... Best to you on all your future treks and many thanks for sharing your story with us! Kind regards...
Thanks for the lovely comment Mike, glad you enjoyed it!
I couldn't agree more.
Pretty inspirational, thanks!
Go on Alice! Well done, looking forward to seeing some more shots of the great North.
Keep it up.
Enjoyed that. Brought back memories of my Pennine journey 40yrs ago. Well done
Alice, you are an absolute inspiration and have loved watching your Pennine adventure. I start mine tomorrow, though the weather isn’t the best, I have your determination in my head to push on through. Thank You.
Loved this Alice and well done! Got half the PW to do so hopefully back out there soon. Great vibe from your video.
Loved watching this :) I thru-hiked NOBO this year so was cool seeing it SOBO! The vid took me right back there
Epic. Brought back a lot of memories of doing the PW in 2007 with my brother. Loved my Hilleberg Akto tent.
Love the video ....I never thought of walking the pennine way North to South ... thank you for the inspiration 🙏 to get out again ... I walk the camino de Santiago 2 years ago which was amazing but the pennine way is special... thank you 🙂🙂
Dreaming of doing this hike this summer. Wonderful video. Loved how emo you got toward the end there. 😅
This looks like a stunning hike, can't believe this is your first vlog I think you did a great job with capturing your experience. Great motivation to get out into the UK and do some more longer hikes, thanks :D
Hi Josh, thanks so much for the lovely comment! Had a gander at your channel and will definitely be taking some inspiration from you for my next film 😊
We are on the same page.
Thanks for sharing 👍
What a lovely video to watch ,well done. I 👏👏👏 I was up dove stones in the snow last week, loved it. Going to see the B-29 wreck on Thursday.
That looks like so much fun. Planning to do this hike in the summer of '22. This video really got me in the mood to do it!
Lovely, I did the PW with my father 50 years ago and this brought back some memories.
An inspiring video that was beautifully presented. So many continuous days with a smile on your face. Well done.
Thanks for the lovely comment Nick 😊
Excellent for a first video, look forward to more in future.
Amazing lass. Congratulations on your achievement. What a charming video. Great to look back on that route after 43 years. I ache just to look at the rough path.
Thank you so much Margaret, your comment made me beam! Really glad you enjoyed it.
Really Enjoy your filming Style.
crying because you are happy been there! we live in such a beautiful world.
I just completed p.w south to north yesterday all really missing the wide open spaces.
Keep adventuring!
All the best jon
You're spot on there.
Really great video, congratulations on completing the Pennine Way; you really earned your beers. Best of luck for your next one.
We see eye to eye on that.
Great achievement. I have walked lots of the cheviots and pennine way too and gorgeous scenery.
Great video Alice. I walked the Pennine Way 39 years ago. Your video has inspired me to have another go next year. I live in Turkey now and can really recommend the Lycian Way.
well done Alice, I really want to do a thru-hike this year and make some more videos, thanks for showing me the pennine way!
You've hit the nail on th ehead.
Well done Alice. Great video and a great achievement to complete such a demanding trail. I’m hoping to take it on myself in 2021.
Thanks Anthony! Good luck with your hike, I'm jealous already 😂
This was just so inspiring Alice. Thankyou. I can’t wait until we can all get back out there again. I’ve subscribed so I really hope to see more of your videos and your adventures.
Hi Michael, thank you so much for your lovely comment :) I loved making this one so will definitely be doing more in the future. Hope you're enjoying our new freedom!!
We're definitely on the same page.
Thanks for taking the time to put this together. Nicely edited and loved the track choice. You should do more.
Thanks so much for the comment dude! Definitely planning on making more 😊
What a fantastic video. Thanks so much for sharing, I hope this will inspire people to get out there and explore more.
You've got a valid point.
Thanks for the video, definitely on my hit list of hikes.
Well done Alice. I loved this video! It just made me want to be out with you and enjoying the freedom 💛
Thanks Grant! Hope you're out enjoying our new found freedom now :)
I love the englisch Landscape. And the typical englisch weather. Nice Video 👍
Great movie, You're just a joy to watch. I hope I can do this one day. Looks like a great journey. 😊 thanks
Nice beautiful hike!!! Keep up the good work!!!
Nice one Alice, dope AF lovely trail, comedy and tunes!! What a hike 👣
Really appreciate the comment, thanks man 😊
Thanks for sharing!!!
Congratulations!
I'm planning on walking the PW, from South to North, and looking to do it over two weeks, around Easter.
Your video has confirmed that I want to do it.
Hi Rob, thanks for the kind comment and I'm so glad the video has confirmed your plan. You absolutely won't regret it! 😊
Good video. !! Pretty rolling farmland - pasture, good achievement for you - long hike :-). From Virginia, USA
You have a great on air personality. I hope you continue making many more vids! Great job!
Thanks Chuck! Definitely planning on making more this year :)
I love this so much, its on my list. ill be doing it the northbound way however. looks like you had such an incredible experience
Thaaanks bud! I'm planning on doing it northbound at some point too 😊 checked out your account and love your SDW video! What did you film it on? Really nicely put together.
Well done Alice. Good to see you finished TPW. I bumped into you and your Mum just north of Hebden Bridge. You found the bazaar then!! Great video too. Hope you enjoy another walk soon. Best wishes. Ian H
Hi Ian, I remember bumping into you and thanks for the tip about May's!! It was a welcome refuge on such a hot and sticky day 🥵 thanks for the comment, maybe bump into you on another trail in the future!
Nice video, thanx for sharing your adventures. I'm walking the PW in section done about half so far, cant wait to get back out on the hills for some more miles.
Great way to do it!
Just watched this; what a fantastic video and superb effort, well done Alice🏆👍🏻👏
Thanks Mark!
hey that was a good video, i really enjoyed that and some nice views on that hike 👍
Congratulations, what a great journey! I did the PWay southbound in 2018 and some highlights for me were: Hadrian's wall, High Cup Nick, Stoodley Pike. There's something just so cool about the three of them! Some things I found tough were the neverending climb up Cross Fell, the gravel road in the heat through Kielder and that annoying traverse from Keld to Thwaite.
Thanks for the comment Alex 😊 Stoodley Pike was shrouded in cloud when I was up there but I also loved HW and HCN! Absolutely hated the gravel roads through Kielder as well. My worst part was the 25 miles between Once Brewed and Alston in 30 degree heat...never again!!
I'm on board with that.
Well done Alice. Great video
Fantastic brings back memories thanks for posting bren new subscriber and well done
Loving this so far, so nice to see epic landscapes. None of that in the south. Given you a sub and looking forward to seeing what other bids you make. 👍👍👍
Thanks for the sub dude! I've just moved back 'up North' from London mainly for the landscape 😊
@@AliceBateman wow very cool idlove to do the same
Love the tunes, the weather and your pronunciation of place names. Liked and subbed. I've also fell out of the Tan Hill a fair few times. Amazing video, great ending.
Thanks so much Keith! Hoping to make more films of my falling out of countryside pubs soon 😊
@@AliceBateman looking forward to it.
Wow amazing. All those miles and all those days! Im knackered after 26 miles over 2 days. Youve certainly got some stamina. Well done.
I'm sure you'd be flying after a few more days out on the trails 💪🏼 thanks Mij!
Nice little video Alice, Pleasantly filled up a half hour of my time, Subbed 👍
Cheers dude 😊
Great effort Alice👍👍
Awesome stuff Alive some nice tunes! Am yet to do the Pennie Way so this is good to see. Trail looks gorgeous. Subbed ATB, Ben ✌️
Ah thanks Ben! I've been following your stuff on Instagram since I met Dexter on the PW and getting a good bit of inspo. Cheers for the sub!
@@AliceBateman oh sick! That’s awesome, keep up the great work and maybe see you out on trail sometime ✌️
Well done that’s brilliant should be proud and your video is excellent 💯✌️👌
A really sympathetic video Alice - well done. Are you going to do any more in the future?
You think your hike was emotional? You should of seen me crawling down kinder to find a closed ‘Old Nags Head’ earlier this year. Heartbreaking!
Great vid 🙆🏻♀️
Consider me well and truly trumped you poor poor man! 😂
Well done! Great achievement...subbed to the channel ATB 🤙🏻
Brilliant!
Great stuff !
That's a fair few firsts tbh.
Congratulations!
We're currently section hiking the Dales Highway; should have it done by the end of 2021 at the current rate lol.
Thanks Andy! Never heard of the Dales Highway so thanks for adding another trail to my ENDLESS list! 😂
Although I walked the pennine way the opposite way 25 years ago all the sights kept flooding back 😁
Bloody well done!
Great video Alice. Thank you! What’s next? I recommend Wainwright’s C2C.
Thanks for the kind comment Jeff! C2C is definitely on the list, along with Cleveland Way, a couple on Scotland and I'd love to give the Cambrian Way a stab!
Aw amazing. Congratulations. You’ve joined quite a select band. I’ve thought about it for years but never had the bottle to do it all......yet. One day! 18 days is one hell of a slog. The Ridgeway is a perfect smaller walk if you looking for the next one.
Hi Steve, thanks for the kind comment and recommendation 😊 it's on the list now!
Great video Alice! Nice to see other young British walkers documenting their journey. The only thing I object to is your pronunciation of the word scone ;)
I'm on day 10 of the coast to coast right now and your video definitely inspired me to get over the final stretch. Keep exploring 💪
Cheers Michael! The Coast to Coast looks stunning...hope it was an incredible experience for you. Any others planned?
Awesome vid. Really genuine and unpretentious. Hoping to do the same journey this Summer.
Cheers Antony, that's a super nice comment. Really hope you get out this summer, it's an incredible experience.
Hello Alice. It's staggeringly beautiful indeed. Lots of great famous tourist spots, yeah! I feel like going to the airport and give it a try really, so yeah! If you ask me, I would say I'd like to go to "The Titan hole" the underground hole in Derbyshire or perhaps The Limestone Pavement in north Yorkshire, why not. That would be amazing yeah.Thank you very much inded for sharing. Saty safe! 🙂 LIKE.
I too am a solo female walker but with my dog. Refreshingly simple, honest and really. Get a little bogged down with the ones that are super editored. keep it real!
Awesome video, would love to do this one day.
Great stuff Alice. Pennines Way is on my (ever growing) list of long distance paths so always great to see films on it.
Only slight critique, and I’m far from being a pro myself, try to get the volume levels more even. I found myself having to adjust each time you spoke so I could hear you and then again when the music came back on so I didn’t disturb the neighbours 😂
Looking forward to more though 👍🏼
That's exactly what I've realised. Funnily enough wasn't so obvious in the editing phase but definitely something to watch for next time. Thanks for the great advice!
I am quite convinced by that.
Great to see a N-S, Iwas supposed to do a one this May, didn't happen due to Lockdown, will try again next May.
Lovely video it's something I want to do how did you prepair for long distance hikes
Bravo Alice good on you lady good on you for picking up a walking companion I'm.envious havent walked any of pennine
Well done Alice, it’s 30 years since I did the pennine way but great to see some of the sites again. I moved over to Northern Ireland years ago so do most of my walking over here now. The audio is always a tough one to get good on walks because of wind noise etc. I’ve been using a Rode Go mic with a lapel mic and wind buff . I’m currently doing a video on the set up I use for my walking videos, I’ll post you a link whenever I finish it if you’re interested.
Ah that's great advice Bob thank you so much! I'll keep an eye out for your stuff. Definitely planning on doing some more stuff like this so might as well invest in some kit 😊
I couldn't have put it better myself.
Loved your video, I did it Edale to kirk yetholm August 2nd to 16th seems like such a long time ago
Well done
Could you do a thing on the gear you used for the hike as I want to hike it next year and need some inspiration
Hiya! I have a kit list if that could help you?
I did 4 days of pennines yrs ago. 12 miler another 12 miler + 23 miler. But the food + water i was carrying + comming of tge walk to get supplys was too mich for my feet to take. Loved it. Wil finish it one day. But my oppinion is to get someone meet you daily with supplys so can carry light. My back pack weighed more than me lol. I met a old giy retired in a pub who was walking 8 mikes a day had hotels booked so carreid really light day pack. Dream but expensive. Im 50 now + would struggle carry all that kit. But like i said if find someone mert you evenings. A day pack + light load really make a masive difference. Be really enjoyable
Lovely video Alice, it'd be great if you could level the audio the audio levels of your voice and the music next time. Stay safe❤️❤️
Hi Siddhant, thanks for the kind comment! You're totally right, it's my first video and I didn't realise how different the audio levels were until I published it on CZcams. Will make sure not to do it in future videos 😊
Great video Alice - I hope to complete the Pennine Way in 2021 North to South, if only because in my mind it will be easier doing the route downhill. Would be interested to know the guide book you used to travel North to South, the tent, and your rucksack and how they served you.
Hi Phillip! Thanks for the comment 😊 I took the Trailblazer guide but only used it a handful of times because I had OS maps on my phone and wasn't a fan of the map layout. My tent was the Wild Country Zephyros 1 and bag Osprey Kyte 40L. Tent was light and held up really well in bad weather and bag was perfect size for me. Happy to answer any more questions!
Great video. Brought back memories of doing Hadrian's wall last year. Have you done any other trails? I'm hoping to do the Highland way after lockdown 😎😎😎
Thanks dude! I haven't done any others yet but plenty in the pipeline, including the Highland Way 😊 I live in Nottinghamshire right now so Cleveland Way and Limestone Way are my next one's I think.
@@AliceBateman awesome!
I do like wainwright beer, its handsome! As you lot say in Englandshire.
You get prettier as the days go by as I usually start to look like a Haggard hobo 😂
Lovely video! It's on my list for sure. Did you have a fav section?
Thanks Nicholas! The section between Teesdale and Dufton deserves the accolades for sure. I also really loved the two days in the Cheviots 😁 absolutely stunning scenery!
Awesome. Hoping to do South to north myself in a few weeks x
Amazing! Hope the weather clears up for you :)
Sweet effort lass 👌
Just had this pop up, watched it, subscribed. Nice video, bit tough to hear you sometimes, but great video non the less. Shout out to your mum too, walking with you for some of it. Not sure if there are more video, just going to check, if not, looking forward to the next 👍
Thanks for the comment bud :) will be making more soon...with better audio editing!
Well done Alice,
Great effort, look forward to your next adventure?
Thanks Anthony! There will hopefully be a post-lockdown adventure soooon
@@AliceBateman kind of you to reply,
I tune into many people you tube adventures.
I am 57 this year and only really started walking since I was 42.
Never did any big walks though - biggest being in either the lakes or Scotland normally with a mountain to get to of about 12 miles
With home walks of a maximum of about 16.
It is my ambition to train my self up so perhaps to attempt Dartmoor from north to south and camp overnight.
If that goes well then I hope to eventually do the west highland way and perhaps Wainwright’s Coast to coast.
I can perfectly understand your emotions. I get an massive rush when climbing the fells or being in a huge landscape.
Like a wave of euphoria that make you cry a little. My missus doesn’t really get it even though she has climbed most of the
Mountains that I have.
Once you get the bug at least in my case You are always planning your next adventure.
We went to the summer isles in 2019 and climbed stac polly and Suilven as well as sea kayaking.
My next Scottish trip will be Gairlock and I have picked some great mountains in the Torridom area - hope I get there!
All the best.
Anthony
Excellent snippets of the trail. What time of year did you complete this?
Really good watch and enjoyable too! Scones and jam..mmmm. @7.34 what was the strange silhouette/shadow thing? A new subscriber and we'll watch and👍the rest of your films too 😁
Thanks for the comment Fraser! The creepy shadow is the radar station on Great Dun Fell...real spooky in the fog. Cheers for the sub :)
Sweet.
Ace .
Hi there, brilliant video! Gathering as much info as I can atm as I’m planning my own north to south trip in march!
Have you any idea we’re I could get my hands on a north to south guide book? Just to save me reading a south/north on backwards!! Thanks! :)
Hi Rob, I used the Trailblazer guide book as it had illustrations for both directions but I often found it to be unnecessary weight as I primarily used the OS Maps app. The reason I found it most useful was for checking out food resupply and accommodation options so direction of travel may not be as important in the end. Hope that helps a bit!
@@AliceBateman brilliant thanks for the help!! :)
I remember the Englisgh countryside. I was born in Suffolk, and lived in Kent and Essex, but where I live now is so different to this, although there are farms, I live on one, lol. But I'm surrounded by evergreen native Beech, broadleaf and podocarp forest, on the West Coast of the South Island Of New Zealand. It's more like jungle in places. The rest of New Zealand is much more cultivated.
Thanks so much for this video! I’m hoping in may to also solo walk from Hebden Bridge to to very top of Scotland. It’s reassuring for my Grandad to see another solo female doing this. Haha, really love the look of your rain jacket. Did it work well for you? And if so where is it from? :)
Hi Isabella, sorry for taking so long to get back to you! How's the planning going for your hike? I bumped into a few more solo women during my trip and would be great to see more out!! My raincoat was an old season Rohan which they don't stock any more but I loved how lightweight it was. I think their 'Momentum' jacket is the closest to it but very pricey.
Well done 😊
Lovely video Alice, well done on completing it first time. So many people fail for one reason or another. What time of year (month) did you do it?
Thanks Gareth! I did it July/August and was pretty lucky with the weather. Watch out for all the hard track around the reservoirs at the beginning of the hike, I think that's what gets most people heading north.
Aw that was amazing. I was just about to go to sleep then i saw the thumbnail - super happy i watched it! How heavy was your backpack? i'm curious... :)
Proper made me smile this comment, thanks Daniel 😊 I never actually weighed my pack but I'd estimate 10-11 kgs
Hi. Lovely video. I wanted to do it North to South next year. Do you recommend it? I've just done 4 days Malham to Tan Hill Inn and loved it but the weather and knees were against me. When did you do this? Congrats!
Hi Lucia! I absolutely would recommend doing it southbound. I think it's the best kept secret of hiking the PW that it's easier going down than up 😉 I did this at the end of July/beginning of August and was generally very lucky with the weather, apart from one absolute scorcher that nearly ended me at Alston! Spring would be a good time I think 😊
That's brilliant advice, Alice. I loved the bit I did but the weather did do me in and what's the point if you can't enjoy it. Looks like you had a terrific time. I am in awe! What's your next challenge?!
Good for you ! Very well done ! and a good video (music was too loud for me 😊) 👍
