What i love most about X-Men 97 is that it feel like it was written by someone who has genuine love for the 90's X-Men show/comics. the animation is like a hybrid of 90's X-Men,HBO's Spawn&the X-Men anime from 2011 in the best way.

I think Beau DeMayo confirmed that he intended that for that to be the real Mary Jane.... But maybe I'm over-thinking it, but if this series (obviously) takes place in 1997, and we go by the assumptions that all the old Marvel 90s cartoons took place at the same time they aired, *technically* the timeline has the Peter/Mary Jane cameo happening BEFORE the reveal that she was a clone. "The Return of Hydro Man" aired in October, 1997... OR I'm just a fanboy thinking too hard, and maybe should just take Beau DeMayo at his word lol.

For me, the fact that they adapted Inferno (1989), Life Death(1984), The trial of Magneto (1985), Operation Zero Tolerence (1997), E is for Extinction (2001), Second Coming (2010), a little bit of fatal attractions, adventures of cyclops and pheonix, onslaught, Age of apocolpse, New Mutants, and a bit of astonishing X-men (2005), so seamlessly, was and is brilliant! It was all well executed! Even hints of Utopia and Krakoa. Demayo and the entire team that worked on this show were cooking! They need to bring Demayo back because he knows whats up and you can tell how much love and care was in this show. Especially making everything full circle with all the other 90's marvel cartoons and the crossovers that happened in the old 90s marvel animated universe, just well done. I hope he comes back for the next 4 seasons (because it was planned to be a 5 season series). And X-Men have always been an allegory for many things and the team displayed that well. hopefully we get more of this when it comes to the remainder of the MCU films where things mean something.

The original X-men cartoon totally had Marvel cameos. Spider-man, Doctor Strange, Black Panther, Ms Marvel, and Captain America all made brief appearances. They really cooked here. They stuck to the core themes and evolved it very well from its core conceits and where I as a fan know where
the positions are from before and yeah they had my boy Magneto cooking the entire season, total MVP with this, but even Bastion was somewhat sympathetic, that last point he made was pretty powerful.
Great and organic use of cameos, none of it felt clumsy or bogged down the narrative in anyway
I thought they were going to hint at Onslaught because of how much they pulled from Fatal Attractions.
I also liked that they put the Avengers in an antagonistic light from a "Status Quo" standpoint, so I can see them setting Avenger vs Xmen down the line
    Low BTS.
I'm hoping to get a 16-bit game out of this in the same vein of TMNT Schredder's Revenge as cross-marketing to line up with when Season 2 comes out.

Appreciated that the makers of this show took a lot of inspiration from anime. From rouge doing a lighting kick, gambit doing a mad sakuga, and multiple use of the quick moving tendrils. Even the soap opera level melodrama that has been part of the DNA of the X men property is very anime. So glad this is successful and hope to see more efforts like this in future.

They had cameos in the first 5 seasons but they had to sneak them in as the rules about what they could use and who they could use were very strict. They had Iron Man, Black Panther and Deadpool but none of them had speaking roles. They would show up in the background or you would only see their hand.
But X-Men 97 quickly reached Batman The Animated series status for me. It is exceptional in almost every way.

Bro understood the assignment and went for extra credit. If you hire people that care about source material and let them work, great things happen. But the bit about the black leather, I think that was Feige's direct input, and you cant tell me any different.

How about comparing it to the actual live-action X-Men movies and how much better this is than any of those adaptations by a mile lol?
    I remember these characters
did cross over on the old Fox series. The X-Men, spiderman, Fantastic Four, ironman a Hulk, and Silver Surfer animated series were all a shared universe. There were even episodes where Spiderman came to the Xavier Institute because he was growing extra arms and thought he might be a mutant
The mutant threat argument is a strawman argument; the mutants never started any of it. Their fear is based on their projection of what they've always done when they've had power. They do not have a right to fear based on their own ignorance and willful ignorance at that.
Magneto EMP’d the planet in Response to a flagrant war crime against Genosha , genosha which was once a real live concentration camp run by humans lol. The logic of the oppressed group has to respond in ways approved by the oppressor or those who stand by the oppressor. The asteroid is crashing to earth based on the magneto protocols where the governments of the world decided to try bombing an eight mile long asteroid lol .
There’s also the misnomer that most mutants have X-men level abilities. Most mutants have mundane abilities and they don’t want to use them to “take our jobs” lol, they more often than not just wanna do what they did before their powers manifest.
Also, apocalypse always has all the best lines in the X-men comics and the old show. It’s onl only in the Fox movie where he’s trash.

Hey guys, it double toasted. There were cameos in the original show but they had to call them different names so you see these characters if I remember all of them. Punisher war machine Spider-Man's hand Spider-Man Shadow Doctor strange just to name a few and Larry Houston that worked on the show said we had to refer to the characters. Not as their names most of the time but soldier or spider person or machine robot man. You know things like that to kind of hide it because of the rights thing and they also had an appearance by Black panther. You see him on top of a random area like a rock facing a rockcliff and he was just panther person or random mutant panther person and that's how they would do it back then which was pretty cool. So I thought you guys would find that interesting. Not trying to be a know-it-all or anything like that but if you guys look it up you know you might find it interesting

9:02 yes, there were loads of cameos in X-Men. The only character who showed up last time but hadn’t this time? Deadpool, who I believe is off limits at the moment. The whole of the X-Men team guest starred in a couple of Sider-Man episodes too. Marvel had their own animated universe even before DC let Bruce Timm cook on Superman and later the Justice League. One that included Iron Man, the FF, and the Hulk, all whom had animated shows on at the same time. Whenever a character from one show appeared on another? It was usually with the same voice actor and or character design.

Best Marvel animation since the 90s, better than the 90s, is easily as good as some of the best DC animation, including Mask of the Phantasm. Yeah, I said it! A masterpiece of comic book adaptation. The great thing about those comics is how complex and connected the world felt, and how human if often melodramatic the stories being told were admist all the epic battles and back and forths between the heroes and their villains, it would literally get Shakespearian at times, or like a Greek tragedy. These were drawn soap operas for teens and young adults that were treated with deadly seriousness within their own plotlines, and this show captures all of that. That's the problem with those 90s animated Marvel shows, ultimately they had to tone all of that down because those shows were made for children and had to pass tv censors, whereas the biggest demographic for comic buyers has always been for those between the ages of 12-29, and the Comics Code Authority began it's long, slow death since the 80s. This show is made for fans of those original shows and especially the ones who were first comic fans, that have all grown up, so it can treat these often convoluted plotlines with the seriousness they deserve. It feels like a small peak into a much wider universe, a view of a slice of a much greater whole, just like those comics did. I have Fatal Attractions, I collected that comic back in the 90s. I felt like I watched it come alive on this show.

X-men played mostly in the mutant world, Spiderman was less so, Daredevil, X-men, War Machine etc. Maybe not X-Men, yet the Marvel Animated Universe was fairly connected. I did feel this season did lay it on thick with cameos (non-X-men characters). It was not enough for fleshing things out (regarding characters) to much not to come across as fan service.

There was two X-men reboots of the animated series was based on the fox movies with X-men in teen cartoon format and only lasted a few seasons before ending on a cliffhanger.
I remember another X-men reboot was after the extinction of mutants and the remaining children with the X gene trying to cope in a world where they are rare extinct race. One of the characters had the phoenix force and cable was one of there guardians.
