- This is a video for my brother Al who is my inspiration for model car building and all around car nutery. I present my 1972 Ford LTD that I call Old Gator after the car from the movie White Lightning with Burt Reyolds. Nope...no 429 with a 4 speed...just a 400 2 barrel with a C6 and those oh SO SWEET 2.5 duals with cherry bombs. Please enjoy and this one is for you my brother! Wish you could come for a drive with me. ***DISCLAIMER: No clear liquor was transported during the filming of the video!*** LOL... And yes he is NOT a 71 Galaxie or Custom 500...

I've been daily driving a 1972 Pinto Squire wagon for the past 20+ years. It's about the same color as that car, with woodgrain trim on the sides. I replaced the 2.0L OHC four/4 speed with a 289/C4 out of a 1967 Falcon. That turned out to be a nightmare of a job. But I did it right, and the car has been completely reliable ever since.
Great car and great movie !!
I have the Ford ltd 1970 4 door
RIP BURT REYNOLDS
Mr Brownstone For sure. It’s a fun car. RIP Burt Reynolds...😢
@@KBCC_Garage yes the old movies with classic cars an Trucks was a big memory when i was a kid 😎
@@KBCC_Garage Thank you for this video bro. this taking me back to the late 80's early 90's my Grandfather had one just like this one same dark brown color and all, except his didnt
have that half top, it was a hard top and his had the massive 429 ci.Windsor 4 brrl. carb oooowwweee and the positive traction rear end that car was a POWER HOUSE on wheels and me and my brother as teens we used to make work out of that engine!.
That's a healthy sounding 400! Still daily a 2dr 78 myself. Love that car.
I love that car, Saw the movie white lightning lots of times and Gator sure could drive that 429 police interceptor.. Very cool stuff 😎👍
All you'd have to do to get a sound close to the movie is put a 4bbl intake manifold, a Rochester Quadrajet on it and make sure the exhaust is still quiet enough not to overwhelm the induction sound. That's what the sound was that they used for the car in the movie. It was a 429 with a Qjet. There's an old video on CZcams of a black '71 Torino 429 doing doughnuts that sounds the exact same way the car in the movie does, Ford Torino GT 429 is the name of the video.
My first car was a 69 Ford Galaxie, similar to an LTD. I enjoyed driving it a lot. But so also liked when it took a little cranking to get it started. I loved the sound of that gutteral starter. Did anyone else like that?
My parents had a '71 hard top LTD. I always like the looks of the '72 over the '71. Enjoy that old beast.
I love what you've done to the Ole 72 LTD especially the exhaust. I have a 71 Galaxie that I made into a tribute car myself. I watched White Lighting as a kid and knew I would have a car just like it when I got older. I have a couple of video's of it on CZcams under Gator Mcklusky. Keep that thing between the ditches Clifton Smith.
These were used as official goverment cars at the premier's department in NSW here in Australia. They were the LTD trim level but were called Galaxie LTDs in our market and were locally assembled by Ford Australia from kits shipped from the USA. We assembled them from 1964 to 1972.
Great looking car. Smart man to wear the shoulder belt.
Back in 1978 when I turned 16, I got my grandfather's 72 LTD to drive. I was that rare teenager that wore a seat belt back then- both the lap and shoulder belts. One night in 1981 those belts probably saved my life in a head on collision with a Chevrolet suburban that hit me. The belts kept me from being ejected or eating the steering wheel. A lot better than the unbelted suburban driver. You need to take some of the slack out of your shoulder belt.
Sounds like a beast gotta love those old cars
I own two door same year with 400 big block my weekend rider🎉congrats on yours
That's sweet.
I'm actually working on a model kit of Gators LTD now.
That sounds sweet...
Thanks! I’d love to see yours. I’ve been working on Gators car (off the channel) for a while now. I’ve been working with a Missing Link resin 71 Galaxie body. It’s pretty good, but I wasn’t happy with the body lines so I started reworking them, but got distracted by another project…🤦🏽♂️
I’m also working on a scale version of Ole Gator 🐊 too. I’m doing what I would like to have the 1:1 look like whenever I’m able work on it.
Thanks again for checking out the channel! More to come soon! ✌🏽😎👍🏾
Good ole family sedan..4 kids at the back mom&dad + one kid up front😁
This brought me back to my childhood...dad had a 72 2 door 400 2v. I enjoyed the video.
Excellent exhaust work. Tucked up nice and tight and clean. Love this car.
Thanks! I wanted it clean and kinda stockish.
That’s a good looking car, sounds awesome! Great install, that shop did a bang up job! 👍
I'm a Ford guy looking good sounds awesome
Beautiful car man I love it I've got a 77 LTD station wagon with a 400 V8 and dual exhaust cherry bombs. Sounds exactly like your car take care of her.
Thanks Chris! I love that snap of cherry bombs. Glad you enjoyed my man.
Needs TMI Inc pistons and a Summit 218/228 cam for some real power... Summit Tru Roller timing chain/sprockets set...
I had a 69' LTD small V-8 with two barrel carb. Slow, but I'll bet it's still running somewhere😊
I special ordered one of these bran new. The best car I have ever had !
She Sound good brother keep up the awesome work enjoy the rest of your weekend go out riding around god bless you and your family
Thanks Tom! I plan to cruise it tomorrow. Thanks for watching sir!
Bad ass car and it sounds awesome! Love it!
kevin u Thanks! Love cruising Old Gator!
Nice, real nice
Thanks! ✌🏽😎👍🏾
LOVE this video have watched it many times, old Gator sounds simply amazing. Im currently saving up for my own LTD. Hope you are safe and well. Russell from Scotland UK
DoubleRDoubleS I’m glad you still enjoy it. I still cruise every so often in it.
@@KBCC_Garage Watch it near everytime I come on looking for LTD clips :-) Glad to hear you still enjoy a good cruise in Gator niw and then. Look after her and if you ever consider selling please let me know as would give her a good loving home, but hopefully she is your forever car :-) Kindest Sincerest Regards Russell
the 1972 models have that rectangular hole in the center of the bumper , the 71's do not, ford added it because they had a problem with the 71 models running a little hot
Love it Cliff, sounds really good, :) Tom
Thanks Tom! It's amazing just how quiet it was before. I could not tell if it was running...I HAD TO get duals to hear it. lol
I have a chance to buy one of these cars same as yours only green seeing yours pushed me over the edge to buy it 😀
Ol' Sleepers r the best. Having something like a Chevelle means some punk is always gonna challenge u on the road, having a big ol LTD with a 400 gives you the option to cruise without being provoked or to open up a can of whoop-ass when necessary.
Nice big Ford!
Great sound ! I can smell the ford exhaust scent through the screen ! I have a 65 mustang 289 HiPo 4-speed, love that beast. Looks like you care a lot for your car, keep it up !
Thanks my man. I really enjoy this car. In fact, I’m typing this comment while sitting in Ole Gator listening to the glasspacks. I’ll bet your little 65 is a fun ride too. 😎👍🏾
Sweet ride man, sounds killer and in great condition.
Thanks man. I love old school glass packs and raised letter tires!
Truly a beautiful car! Sorry about your brother man
Thanks man. My brother is good. He just lives 2000 miles away, and we had not seen each other in 2 years at that time.
He finally got to come see me and drive Old Gator in 2022. 😎👍🏾
Very nice Ford, my friend. And, it sounds great!!
Donald Coonce Thanks. I love driving this car!
What a cool car!
Appreciate it! Thanks 😊
Sounds great Clifton
Thanks man! I LOVE the crackling of glass packs on an old school ride.
Clifton Smith most definitely you just changed the old rides personality lol well done
Big ol beater
Theee CandleMaker Oh yeah. Fun ride. Even more fun now.
Love how despite irs gargantuan size and girth, the back side windows are actually pretty tiny, and is having a pretty small door opening.
Can hardly get it into a garage, and hardly get any full sized people in the back. Best of both worlds!
Joking aside, love the car, I think its great. Just like in "streets of San Francisco". Excellent candidate for a 780Hp Godzilla engine swap! Now then you could lay that brown goodness properly sideways around the corners! Do it!
I definitely agree about the back. I VERY rarely sit back there so I forget how small the openings are. 😂
Maybe when I get more funds (in a major way) I will upgrade Ole Gator. Til then I reckon he’s fun cruiser.
it sounds glorious, man
J.A. M.F Thankya I appreciate it!
absorbed that bump like it was nothing at 3:04 haha
70’s couch rides. 😎👍🏾
Nice car and IMO I consider 1972 to be the last great year of the Ford LTD's as far as styling and good powertrains before they were plagued with smog pumps, 5mph bumpers and emission control devices which took a bite out of drivability and performance
Doobie1975 thankya. It’s a fun ride.
You're welcome, I've always thought the 1972 full sized Ford's were the last ones with a 1960's sporty look, I've always liked the 1971-72 Ford LTD's and Galaxie's a lot.
I agree. When I saw it for sale I could think of was the 71 Galaxie from the movie Gator...lol
Last year for Formula 1, near Saturn 5 moonrocket performance in a Talbot camry bodyshell. Before the meanies demanded smog pumps and emission devices, buhu. Yada-yada, we heard all that before.
Truth is a stock minivan of today drives circles around any of these from 1969.
that 72 ltd is my 2008 crown vic interceptors grampa! love it!
John Spencer lol I have a 2011 Police Interceptor (The Bluesmobile) and I thought the same thing. 🤣
The sweetest sound, this side of heaven😮❤
Glasspack symphony 🎶🎼🎵🎵🎶🎺🎻
Now thats what a car should sound like!
Beautiful
Sounds good brother
1976 bronx Thanks man. Love glasspacks!
Sounds Great!!! :)
Thanks! Sounds even better now that the mufflers have worn in a little.
Cool video Clifton. Car sounds mean!
Thanks Jorge! The exhaust and removing the points made it just a bit meaner, lol. Thanks for watching.
That's real Detroit iron 🇺🇸
Jim Ballard Thankya sir! Ole Gator is loud and proud. Thanks for watching and commenting. 😎👍🏾
Kywalsky , gator . That was a geeat movie .
172 screaming Detroit horsepower versus 4250 pounds. Yeah, there's a recipe for performance~
Flies2FLL You know it! lol
TMI Inc has special performance pistons on the shelf for Ford 400... $300/set... add Summit 218/228 cam/lifters... $110... adjustable true roller dual chain timing set... $39... 4 bbl. carb... headers... dual exhaust... You're around 450 HP... 500 lb.-ft. torque... IT'LL MOVE !!!
@@BuzzLOLOL Those 450 hippie horsepower translates to how much SAE net hp? 225? Bet a stock minivan still drive circles around it.
@@Santor- - With headers and 3" mandrel bent exhaust you're still around 450 netHP as well !!! Way faster than a minivan...
Awesome car, now you need a 4 speed with a hurst shifter.
Love it really cool
Thanks Charlie!
Best cars ever made.
You said it! 😉👍🏾
Sharp body style
I definitely love it! Thanks! 😎👍🏾
New sub here , AWESOME 10 TIMES OVER!!
Glad to have your viewership! Hopefully you’ll find something you like. 😎👍🏾
Oh yeah now that sounds great
Sand Village Thankya Thankya 🙌🏽
Awesome, they don't make cars like that anymore.... great video.
Thankya Godfather! They don't for sure. There is just something about an older car like this with duals that is just RIGHT. lol Thanks for watching man!
I do a lot of 1:1 builds and I won't do anything newer than the 70s. So much easier to work on.
My father-in-law and I will definitely agree! lol
Great video
Thanks Dave and Chas
Pre 1974 American made vehicles epitomized quality in the automotive industry.
Nothing like the sound of an American V8.
Or an Aussie Holden 308.
I remember watching the movie ..love the video clips of him haul'n butt all over and all you hear is the 2 fours opened up , only 2 things im scared of ...women and the pooolice...hahaha. I asked Revell to make a Kit of the 72 LTD but got shot down , at least I was able to convince them to do the S & H Torino even if it did take 3 years to do it..Enjoy Clifton maybe 1 day we will see a kit on the shelves..
Women and the PO-lice... lol. I would be over the moon if they made a 71 or 72 Ford LTD model. But, like you said, we have the S&H Torino. I have five of them and would take MORE. lol Thanks for watching!
Look at the engine in the movie car... obviously only one carb... although Burt says two...
Love that car bud.
P Dinardo Thanks!
That`s the best way to wake anyone up!
My favorite sound when driving home. lol
From what I remember Burt Reynolds LTD didn't have that much Chrome and trim. Ir seamed more sleek . But same color
Yeah Gators car was a 71 and a lower trim level than the LTD…but I have to work with what I can find. 🤷🏾♂️😂
Will those hubcaps fit any of the 1980s Crown Vics?
As long as they’re 15 inches I believe so.
What size tires do you have on it? The Destinations look good! How do they ride?
sandrochatlos1 They ride well. They’re 215 75 15. Comfortable. lol
I'm not trying to rain on your parade or be a smart ass my good fellow but The car that Gator McKlusky (AKA Burt Reynolds) drove in the movie White Lighting was a 1971 Ford Custom 500 sedan, Not a 1972 LTD hard top with a vinyl top (the tail lights are different on the 72, Sedans have B pillars where the hardtops did not). The custom was a base model (used for taxis and police cars FBI cars, and city officials) , the custom 500 had a little more stuff than the custom, for example power brakes. Then there was the next class which was the Galaxie and Galaxie 500 which had a bit more luxuries or options then the Customs and then there was The LTD which was the more upscaled version of the Galaxie's with A/C, power brakes, electric windows opinion, rear window defrost ETC....But you have a very nice car....The Custom and The Custom 500 are really really hard to find now of days, you are lucky to find a 72 LTD in such great condition....enjoy it ....l'm sure your brother is sitting right beside you everytime you turn the key to fire it up .....Sorry for your lose www.imcdb.org/vehicle_112505-Ford-Custom-500-1971.html
Earl M Thanks my man. I am aware 100%, hence the name Ole Gator named after the movie car. Appreciate it though. 😎👍🏾. Oh and my brother is alive thank God. I just moved 2000 miles away at the time.
@@KBCC_Garage that's good to hear....l actually owned a green and black 1971 Custom 500 4 door when l was 16... l wanted to make it into Gator McKlusky car but my dad got rid of it cause it was taking up needed space in our yard. l never saw it again
Earl M Dang! That would be a cool ride. Too bad it’s gone.
@@KBCC_Garage l'm still looking for one to make in the movie car, but l did get a 1976 Gran Torino that l'm restoring and turning it into a Starsky and Hutch car
Love it gator good movie
My uncle had a 74 ford galaxy 500 police interceptor green.
Nice! I dig those old Galaxies. 😎👍🏾
Which engine is in this?
David B. It’s the 400 2 barrel.
Sounds like fooooooooord!
It does indeed my man! I love the sound of glass packs in the morning...lol. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Luv this car,movie
PRonda Music Me too...for sure!
I have now a Ford ltd 4 door 1972 also :-) very nice car
Mr Brownstone Nice! Have a video of it?
@@KBCC_Garage i have only photo maybe later . Its a family 1owner car from california now is in switzerland with me .you still have your old lady ?
Wow you're so lucky got it at an auction? i want an 72 Ltd. 2 dr. with that 429 ci. Windsor! ahh i love those 70's Ltd's
@@mrbrownstone3891 Disregard my question i see you say it's a family prize possession.
@@mykejohnson582 you say right the 70 are great .my engine is the 400cui with 172 horsepower .
Later she will get a upgrade haha
Its the last great year of tiny bumperettes and brocade interior before brougham and disco emissions destroyed the letherette clad headlight covered goodness.
The Streets of San Francisco.
Nice car but can barely hear it for all of the other noises. It be quiet for glasspacks. That was when Ford still made something worth taking home.
Gator Mcklusky's car was a 1971 Ford Custom 500, not a '72 LTD. Might look similar but the cars are different.
I know...
...And they had to reduce the horsepower numbers...we can add two together!
I’ll take another one. 😆
Bruhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!! Gator is smiling down on you right now!!!
scryla2000 I appreciate that. It’s a fun ride for sure.
Clifton Smith, man I love when people operate out of passion and love. The movie was my introduction to a lifelong love of the automobile. I’m just glad I don’t have your car. I’d forget I’m NOT Gator MacCluskey on these back roads!!! Lol!!!
scryla2000 😂. I’m sure you’d learn self control, or have fun trying. lol
Clifton Smith you know it!!
Sounds good. What motor does she have?
DANIEL RICKEL Thanks! It’s a 400 2barrel.
@@KBCC_Garage back in the day my uncle converted his 400 over to a 4bbl. He claimed it actually improved the gas mileage because the primarys were smaller then the mains in the 2bbl. Of course my uncle drives like a Grandpa.
DANIEL RICKEL 😂. More is better...in case ya need it. Til then save on it. Lol
I do like an LTD.
Paul Bennell Me too!
Lose the hubcaps!
nastybastardatlive I did run without hubcaps a few weeks earlier this year. Looked cool.
Wooow!!!!
Awesome car brother, what's the price for that????
DimcaDallapeOrgantone 993/A Thanks! Why, you want to buy it? lol
Well it had a ,429 with 2 carbs
He said it, but did it really? 😆
Wasnt factory slug had 429 souped up,moonshine car had to have more horsepower hauling shine and early armour
hello clif, ... any chance for a in car video on a ride for us ?????????
95aeroboy I’ll see what I do. 😎👍🏾
@@KBCC_Garage awsome man ..... hope to see
Scweeeeet
Joseph Deffendoll Thankya sir.
Didn't Gator's car have a 4 speed in the movie?
Randall Fabian Yup.
In many scenes it showed Gator shifting a 4-speed but when he drives up to his parents house he puts it in park. There were several cars used I’m sure.
@@melrose9252 Gotta love continuity errors. 😆 I’m pretty sure the actual car didn’t have the engine shown in the beginning either... I could be wrong.
Hi, for sale?
Not anymore.
“Only two things I’m afraid of is women and the pOlice!”
Women and the POLice, huh? Betcha try to humpem both…
lol mine was yellow
Yellow eh? How’s it look in yellow? lol
That's not Gator car
Gator had 1971 Ford Galaxie 500
The car was outfitted with a 429 Police Interceptor/Cobra Jet engine and a custom exhaust
But your car is sweet and sounds really good, :) Dimitry
Antiteroristicke Jedinice Ponisavlja I’m aware. lol. It’s the closest I could get though. It’s my ole Gator for sure. 👍🏾
Antiteroristicke Jedinice Ponisavlja Gator drove a 71 Custom and where did you get police interceptor/cobra jet? It was however a 429 with some scenes showing a 4 spd and some and auto.
Antiteroristicke Jedinice Ponisavlja You are correct . Its an automatic- 4spd fabricated by Hollywood.
Why didn't you do it
Money...😄. Life ain’t over though and I have plans for it. 😎👍🏾
That sounds mean
Thanks! It’s a fun ride. I appreciate you watching and commenting!
73's / 74's looked cheap and bloated compared to the 71's / 72's.
