#NorseMythology
Modern historians: Source?
Ancient myth creators: The source is that I made it up
That's a nice opinion Senator, how about you back it up with a source?
@@connorhealy1562 my source is that I made it the duck up!
@@connorhealy1562 I saw it in a dream. Best way to claim credibility
I like the balance between non-animated educational videos and animated entertainment videos about mythology. You're doing a great job at both 👏
dumb
Ok but can you point to any specific text that says Thor did not have a glock?
Shit.
Good point..who said he didn’t have a glock?
Yoyo, i (a swedish man) saw a play based on the edda! The edda might be somewhat "extreme" but from my local runestones (the most famous one being of Sigurd) has been great! I hate how norse mythology is portrayed in the modern sense. Most of us were farmers.
Yes iam Danish and i also hate when people just talks about Vikings like all of them just killed and raided other cities
@@Slurp_Co. Contemporary sources about viking were written by those who saw what vikingers did, so after they came over, raided the holy place and killed those resisted, I doubt the first thing they though was "wow, those boats looked so good, great craftsmanship".
I love the Crawford translation of the Poetic Edda. It’s got a great feel to it, and you can still feel the poetic part, despite the translation
I got myself a copy of his translation which I haven’t started yet, but I’m looking forward to it!
OMG YOU UPLOADED A LITERAL MINUTE AFTER I FINISHED GOD OF WAR RAGNOROK
It's good!
I'm avoiding god of war for no spoilers
@@numptyys5565 i could ruin your day... But I won't

The appearing and disappearing cat at 7:15 was funny :)

"You probably clicked on this video because..."
Because I got a notification from Jake Doubleyoo. Do I need any other reason?
I personally am more interested in greek mythology, but you're videos are always fascinating and entertaining to watch!
Same but for Norse
Greek is great but imo its the easiest to study due to well documentation(for myth standards)
Sumerian mythos being the oldest and no longer active religion has been an issue for research for me lol
@@enzoforgets9456 You should read up on Turkish author Muazzez İlmiye Çığ on the Sumerian mythology. She explains how the all of the Abrahamic religions takes it roots from the Sumerian beliefs and many many more. I don't know if her books are well translated into English, though and the short research I've just done didn't produce any results, damn
Asking once again that you do Aztec mythology! They’re so brutal and absurd and I love them
I like this idea
And unlike Norse mythology, the Christians/Spanish conquistadors did indeed destroy/burn their books
Yeah, it's pretty wild. There's a goddess made entirely of snakes, and another goddess who gets impregnated by the severed head of a god spitting on her. Oh, and lots of death all for the sake of making the sun move across the sky.

I love how he cut his hair and instantly grew it back
What mythology will you go over next after you've gone through Norse mythology? Egyptian? Finnish? I'm interested to learn about some less known mythologies like finnish or ancient sumerian
Finnish would be cool. I don't know a lot about that one.
@@cedartheyeah.justyeah.3967 Nothing makes sense in it so it's best to skip jt
@@boganborn That's a pretty stupid point.
@@boganborn It is just as sensible than most of other mythologies
He’s started Egyptian by showing the similarities between Egyptian and Greek mythology
I swear to God Jake's lifeless smile gives me life
:)
Do you mean you swear to Thor
Which one
I just got the Penguin Classic Prose Edda and I gotta say it's pretty kool.
Also there's a section in Barnes and nobles for Norse Mythology! Though I can't guarantee all of it is accurate, I can guarantee it is pretty nice to read
As a Finnish man, I would love for you to make a video series about Kalevala. Seems like that would fit your style very well
watching this after catching up on your genesis vids. Very good work man
Everyone knows Thor really carries a 12 gauge, not a Glock.
I will say if you are looking for more of a fictional reading into Norse mythology, Neil Gaiman's book Norse Mythology is a great read, whilst not truly faithful to the source material (as little there is) It is a very nice overview of some of the more well known myths of Norse mythology
"You probably clicked on this video because you're a fan of a Norse mythology themed game..."
Me: nope
"...or movie..."
Me: nope
"...or book..."

Me: That's the one!
Also, I like your new haircut and don't think it makes you look like a dork.
0:28 well of course he doesn't......... he caries a bazooka
Seriously though, I thoroughly enjoy your cartoons. They are educational(ish) 😉 and hella entertaining
Hela* this is a norse mythology video after all
@@omarsalem1219 fair point 😂👍
My love of mythologies came from a game called Luxor, its all about egyptian mythology with a few tweaked stuff because your main character is a soul placed within a ball launcher by the gods, so that you can help them defeat Seth. There is also bookworm adventures by popcap, where the first game's first chapter involved greek mythology, and my love for norse mythology came from of course, god of war. After playing those games, i just started liking any mythology given to me, until i came across your explanation of egyptian mythology, where my knowledge began to expand about it alongside greek and norse mythologies because your way of explanation is somehow funnier. (Also thor trying to shoot the chalice with a glock is funny asf)
Hey, Jake can you try and make some more egyptian mythology videos?
ikr
recently found this channel while trying to learn more about Norse Mythology. Never been happier. This is amazing. The art style, the humour, the explanation, its Top Notch.
keep doing what you're doing!

I always wondered about the Germanic paganism in Northern Europe sad to know its lost
Sure, Frikko may be an alternative name for Frey, but it also sounds like a hilarious G rated insult
0:07
For fact
i am here for the animated YT series
Same.
Wdym he doesnt carry around a glock?
actually thor didint carry a hammer he carried a XM307 ACSW Advanced Heavy Machine gun made by the dwarves
so basically Norse mythology is written by a guy saying "MY SOURCE IS THAT I *mostly* MADE IT THE FUCC UP!"
Great video!!
I literally am half tempted to miss these videos to not get spoiled for ragnarok but eh who cares its just how good
I am utterly shook. My life is a lie…
What point is it to live in a world where Thor doesn’t carry a Glock? 😢😢😢
i was sad, when i learned that thor actually doesn't carry a glock with him at all times
Oh yes, the Glocknir :)
You’re videos are SOOO Funny Jake !!!😂
Norse Mythology is crazy! Keep up the awesome work! Love the channel.
Thou be wrong, for I, Þórr, do carry a Glock everywhere I, Þórr, go! For the only thing stronger than I, Þórr, is I, Þórr, with a gun!
I would love to be able to watch this, but CZcams keeps crashing.

To be fair Troy is atleast in modern Turkey
I always enjoy your mythology videos. And your cats. :)
Gotta get a refund from that barber bro
yea
I love your videos so much thank you for doing this
Ayyyy new Norse Mythology video. So when’s the next Egyptian Mythology video?
love the haircut transition that was tops
One thing to mention: the Rus Vikings (those who Fadlan describes) were way different from the Scandinavian Norsemen, due to like one or two generations separated their customs and cultural influences. So, his account is only somewhat reliable (he was also biased against those people, just like the Christians were towards Pagans).
Couldn't be a Jake video without his cat walking in on him while recording
That haircut switch was awesome.
love the random cat at 8:03
I follow Norse mythology to compare the cultures it shares with and has in contact to in the past such as the Celtics, the Slavs, and to the Native Americans.
Im not gonna lie ive just been kinda binge watching you while sick for the last few hours, and it felt like a one night stand i suddenly realized i had no idea who you were, i didnt bother looking at the name i was just enjoying it.
Thanks for the great content
4:07 I'm pretty sure that comes from "Well, the Spanish destroyed all Mesoamerican records, so probably it happened in other places".
I clicked on this because i like your videos, and you were near the top of the “subscriptions” page
Jake, You are an impressive narrator. Enjoyed it. Don Atkinson
Can you please do the Giants and they’re Magic I have searched the Internet for days and I can’t find anything on it
What exactly do you want to know about them?
I'm here for Jake's humor. And learning is really cool too.
😊A mug with the sentient sewing needle saying “did someone say sentient sewing needle?” Next to Loki’s mouth being sewn shut would be funny, but like no pressure or anything also I really like your content.😊
love the jumper
Such a lovely sweater
Cool stuff
I am shaking and crying rn
Why does Thor not carry around a glock with him?
Fun fact my preschool was in Rök and the Rök stone was just across the street next to the church
I'm just wondering, have there been any time that mythologies have overlapped gods not in the sense of Poseidon = Neptune but rather gods interacting with gods from other religions
I know that in greek mythology Perseus goes to Aethiopia to rescue Andromedra and is said that the people there received a oracle from Ammon (the main god of some middle eastern religions), altrough there he is just Zeus to the writers. When Romans started the war with Carthage, they claimed that they sacrificed humans to Baal Zefom (or other type of Baal), and the romans claimed that to be Saturn, greek Kronos, and that Jupiter commanded them to attack Carthage to end this. But as you can see, is not gods interacting, is just alternate gods being equated with the greek and roman ones. Because you will probably never find some source that really recognizes other gods, they will just say they are an alternate version of their own gods.
I mean on A TECHNICALITY, God in the Hebrew Bible does interact with the idols of Ba’al, Dagon, etc from Canaanite mythology, but it’s more like “they don’t actually exist/the God of Israel is more powerful”
Reminds me of an interesting primary text we once studied in uni, from the time when Buddhism was introduced in Japan. In it, a feudal lord declared that the local Shinto god came to him in a dream, and the god told that he converted to Buddhism and wanted a Buddhist temple to be built on the premises of his Shinto shrine.
The idea of a god converting to a new religion, combining both religions, was really fun and interesting to me.
(Shintoism and Buddhism were mixed for much of Japanese history, until the 19th century, when samurai rule was overthrown and a new nationalistic government made efforts to separate the two religions, and elevate the native Shintoism over the foreign Buddhism. But while the temples and priests are now separate, many people still practice elements of both religions. E.g. it's very common to go to Shinto shrines to pray for good fortune in life, but have a Buddhist funeral when you die.)
I love learning about methodologygy
Your videos are so fun to watch, love the spin of comedy you add. Of course not everything is 100% accurate, Thor carries a 1911 handgun with custom sights and extendo-mags.
I love your sweater
Hi Jake, I really love your videos especially Norse Mythology. I'm currently making my very own comic adaptation of Loki and the Master Builder. I was thinking it would be fun to get connected 😊
3:20 wait theres a place called hamburg?
Wait til you find out what the people there are called.
I would like your sweater, sir. I looks comfy, cozy, and down right fashion!
I wanted to ask…could you talk about Fenrir? I would love to know more about him :))
i love your cat edits
i cant ignore the teleporting cats
You can do on the Shinto gods if you like, otherwise keep going like that I love your videos
Ngl hearing you say Doubleyoo out loud makes it very weird that I kept thinking it was Dub-lay-oo
So cool Videos.
Could you do some thing about Hathor in Egyptian mythology? I don’t know much about her I just want to learn about a space cow
I love the cat cameos
Finally early!
I havent watched cuz of school
Mythology is cool and all but…….
Look at the kitty at 7:16
I will make the best norse mythology ever, since the source is as reliable as i am
So judging by whats in this video, is "Loky trash talking all the gods" gonna be the next Mythology animation?
oh my gawd, you DID make Thor burp very loud and it was indeed funny.
*ANOTHER!*
Do Egyptian or a on Artemis pls

Never seen someone recommending a different channel and calling his/her own channel better.

I legit didn't realize what your username was supposed to mean. I thought it was double "yo". Like someone was holding onto the o at the end. Yoooooooooooooo! Two of them.

4:35 if you watched Jackson Crawford's video on it, you'd know that it's pronounced more like rook than "roke".
0:03 i got into it cus of ‘’Destripando la historia con pascu y rodri.’’
I was expecting you would make the jump to Indo European Mythology and how we can still relate figures like Thor and Odin (from Germanic Mythology) to Celtic and Slavic mythology. In a further stretch, we can even compare these to Greek/Roman and Indian deities.
But I digress. Anyway, great video.
why are your video's so interesting and funny?
Off-topic but your sweater is super cute
Burping thor is the reason i follow you😌🙏
i love yoyr videos
The animated youtube series one is the reason why i watched this video
My favorite variation of norse mythology in media is definitely Ragnarok because unlike everything else being a slightly altered version of already set in stone stories, the lack of Lokis antics in Ragnarok makes completely different and unique stories that are just so entertaining to listen to
"Dressing up as a bride to get his hammer back" sounds like a euphemisim for a viking who dresses in drag to cure erectile dysfunction.
7:16 ders a cat in da bacround
The intro made me say, "This is just the video find I wanted to find!"
After watching I said, "That was just the video I wanted to find!"
bro got a haircut 1 minute into the video😭😂😂
Can you do the yucatec mayas/ mesoamerican mythology next pls?
