Rashid Khalidi: U.S. Recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s Capital Means It Cannot Be a Peace Broker

  • democracynow.org - At the United Nations, over 120 countries defied President Trump Thursday by voting in favor of a resolution calling for the United States to drop its recent recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital. The final vote was 128 to 9, while 35 nations abstained and 21 countries casted no vote. Control of Jerusalem is one of the most contested issues: Palestinians see East Jerusalem as the capital of their future state. Sustained protests continue in the Israel-occupied Palestinian territories, despite a brutal Israeli military crackdown. We speak with Rashid Khalidi, the Edward Said professor of Arab studies at Columbia University and author of “Brokers of Deceit: How the U.S. Has Undermined Peace in the Middle East.”

    Dear Nikki Haley. You are lying in my name. The majority of Americans condemns Trumps decision

    Thank goodness they stumped Trump! Loved seeing him sitting there pouting like a kid 😂😂😂.
    What American people is she talking about??? I'm pretty sure the majority of us disagree with Trump...

      Well trumps approval rating is 44% and that's from Rasmussen a very right leaning poll. So a majority aren't with trump

    • @weazz
      @weazz Před 6 lety

      and anybody who believes any polls anymore is just plain dumb. Of the last 3 years, pollsters have been wrong over 2/3rds of the time, and the times they were right, it was barely. It doesn't matter who the poll is from, pollsters are a failing group. In the last 4 elections I've partaken in, every poll was wrong, 100% of the time IN Alberta Canada. so from 2015 to 2017, not a single poll has been correct.

      Isn't that convenient to say the polls are wrong because it fits your views

      Except for those 3 million votes for Hillary. Didn't like her but she got them. She won the popular vote as polls indicated those polls couldn't determine electoral vote

      chris manecke wake up, this is neither right nor left wing evil. The Zionist-Palestine issue has no political lines, both Democrat and Republican politicians pledge allegiance to Israel and genocide committed against Palestinians. A Democrat president would have done this too as long as AIPAC sponsors ordered this ruling.

    • @xxxbbbqqq
      @xxxbbbqqq Před 6 lety +3

      Rene Flowers- The Democratic party is not the party of the left, they just pretend to be. You should wake up to that.

      @renejovitz9985 Před 6 lety

      chris manecke the point is that we need to stop categorizing. Those who control our banking system controls our politicians and everything else. This is neither about Democrats or Republicans, black or white. The last president who might have been fully independent was JFK, everyone else is being stringed along.

    How much will it cost to move the embassy to Jerusalem? How much will the continuing security costs be once it is in place? What are the security risks to the personnel working there? Are they projected to be higher than in it's current location? I read that the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad cost $750 MILLION dollars. Will the embassy in Jerusalem cost that much or more? Where will the money to build, maintain, repair and secure it come from?

      You need to open your eyes and see the real Palestine. They do not want peace. Israel is the only one who is willing to compromise. Palestine wants all the Jews dead. They have never wanted peace.

      Tracy Livingston check out an episode of the Empire files with Abby Martin. She did an expose and spoke to the people in Israel. Israelis see the Palestinians as sub human. They want to wipe them out. Carpet bombs and all. Israel hides behind the rhetoric of " protecting itself. No one is threatening Israel. Palestine deserves the same basic human rights as eveyone else. Btw, that expose' is just one example of how much Israelis hate the palestinians. Ps. Israel wants things their way. They don't think they have to compromise. So I really disagree with you on that. Peace.

      Colonial angus/ White Master- Sarah Palin is too busy stopping her drunken, wife beating son from beating up her husband. In between bottles of scotch, that is. I don't think she has time for the UN.

    • @colonelangus8247
      @colonelangus8247 Před 6 lety

      chris manecke sure she does, she can still get drunk at the UN and could skin a Moose and beat her son at the podium while she made her speech. The UN still doesn't get how we feel about them but Governor Palin might be able to make the point. Hopefully we don't have to send in Sam Hyde but it might have gotten to that point.

    I don't understand why this was not done much earlier, the Israelis are obviously not going to accept the two state solution because this would result in the end of Israel as a Jewish state. Now they are stuck.
