  • Excepting Castle Keep and EVA Legrand's musical seasons are mainly spring and summer His orchestral colourings not so much dappled secondary additions rather flowing primary textures rich in melody ~ in the style of his mid 1960s musical Umbrellas of Cherbourg . For those responding his orchestral charts have a synaesthesically colour sensitive appeal. Although its' all big band a number of charts on the Richard Rodgers album show a penchant for bouncy summery voicings including an on -- its -- toes People Will say we're in Love. This can't be Love is more down to business big band stuff both recorded in 1962 New York. I notice Legrand's ~All This and Money too~ is showing on the Google sidebar .An excellent score from 1963 with Legrand doing what he does best ~ taking a musical gambol through colourful melodic moods. I liked legrand's 1963 music score back when ~still works today. When I acquired this Rodgers album in the 1960s i was beating myself up with a deluge of Stan Kenton big band music the ultimate for those who love that brass ~thang. so even in light summer I still wanted brass to beat the band Upshot I had difficulty attuning to this now highly adjacent at times lightly textured album of big band summer moods. But putting Stan the man to one side Legrands Rodgers also gets commendation in a stellar choice of composer Do they happen any better than Richard the Great Rodgers. My lament is that Legrand was not given an endless supply of manuscript paper and told not to reappear until the entire Rodgers songbook was in the bag.
