    You didn't mention it but after taking out the warden, calling for that push + your teams quick response opened up the front for your jaguars to clean up after, that communication was huge imo!

    It is so funny watching the journey Drongo is taking through the BARs meta. From wind to solar. From backline to frontline. From bots to vehicles. Now hovers, which are widely regarded as d** s***, which in my opinion is absolutely wrong. Keep the videos comming Drongo. See you on the battlefield. Cheers.

    The footprint of bots is very small in general; they're tall. The footprint of vehicles is generally only second to ships with ships being the chonkiest units. Aircraft sorta don't have footprint because they're flying which is a huge part of their advantage.
    The hover's build range isn't particularly different from others, BUT their build lathe is quick to deploy whereas the bots and vehicles have to go through an animation to unfold themselves which slows them down. The hover constructor has a footprint between vehicles and bots, so they're small compared to a vehicle constructor but large compared to a bot constructor; more of the build range of vehicles is taken up by the vehicle's footprint, so bots and hover have more effective build range even though the absolute distance is the same or very similar across constructors.
    One of the things that XFL did in that other match was sought to use hover to immediately take the island patches of metal and underwater mex adjacent to the straits. If you go hover start again, you might consider that; it is why XFL went with a 4 hover constructor opening. 2 develop land--one for geo and the other for mex--and the other 2 went for water development. Also, the hover can be very quick about reclaiming trees, rocks, and other debris, so don't be shy about using one to get that early game burst of resources.

    Drongo consider some options to test.
    About wind, I found out that making one energy storage is a big safeguard against wind problems instead of making so many wind mills right away.
    Both hover and amphibious tanks have their strenghts, I have destroyed entire bases with 4 amphibious tanks rushes or with 3 hover tanks rushes, more or less the same cost
    I prefer the amphibious because if my front do shit I can quickly switch into vehicles, but you can also start hover, reclaim and go vehicle, not much of a difference

    This hover rush reminds me of the OTA blitz rush from back in the day. It's definitive in the first few minutes because it can be such a solid raid, although it does drop a decent bit of metal into the enemy back line.
    Are you still able to clog enemy vehicle plants with your wrecks? The best old cheese-strat against a blitz rush was to push your own smaller rush quicker and get at least one mini tank to block the opponent's vehicle plant output. They'd have to specifically stop and reclaim to clear it. It was one of the odder downsides to vehicles. In the same way, you'd need two tanks to block an old bot lab and it looks like the new bot labs are wide open and unable to be blocked?

      @@KAClown A lot of us new people (including me) to BAR are totally unfamiliar with Total Annihilation. I had to use Google to even figure out what TA meant in this context.

    • @KAClown
      @KAClown Před rokem

      @@JaimeWarlock Total Annihilation is one of the absolute longest lived games with an active community stretching back to its release in 1998. It distilled the RTS genre into a very simple formula based on the two resources of metal and energy and the less tangible resources of attention and time. It so perfectly captured one particular wide ranging model of RTS games that it had virtually no competition going forward.
      Starcraft and Warcraft were the main competitiors, but they diverged increasingly away from the formulae that TA captured. That divergence created the MOBA and the more rock-paper-scissors style of games.
      TA was something of a victim of its own success, and its intellectual property got lost in a corporate network of cascaded failures of the early 2000s. The community for TA however remained active during the entire time and is one of the major modding scenes that created many many industries and technologies in the contemporary game development community.
      BAR is a continuation of Total Annihilation through the modder's Spring Engine. The Spring Engine was a community led open source reconstruction and improvement of the TA game engine. BAR is a reconstruction of TA with new assets and IP. Mechanically, they're virtually identical in terms of build costs and times and build power and unit statistics.
      Supreme Straits is an evolution of the TA: Escalations mod map, Supreme Conflict. taesc.tauniverse.com/?p=maps
      It's a very cool game, and I'm glad to see it revived in BAR. The similarities between them by the way means that old GameFaqs and strategies that worked for TA can be adapted to BAR. The ol' hover start and rush is one of the big metas from the early 2000s.
      The bots, vehicles, and ships of the game are from the original Total Annihilation game which was multiplayer capable but originally balanced and released as a single player campaign experience. The multiplayer though is why the game became popular, and it was expanded and rebalanced somewhat during the era of a network of massively multiplayer action called the "Boneyards" before the parent company collapsed. An expansion was made and released called Total Annihilation: Core Contingency that added a bunch of new units including what y'all call T3 units as well as hover, amphibious vehicles and units, and seaplanes (the T1.5 units) with the focus being on rebalancing towards competitive multiplayer games.
      First game I ever learned to mod.

    @xeroprotagonist Před rokem

    I'd suggest trying a followup to the scout hovers with a more serious push with some of the other hover units - that might end the game even faster if the other team is still reeling from the scout attack when they come in. Cover from some antiair hovers would shut down those T1 gunships that were chasing down your scouts, a few hovertanks would prevent LLTs from stopping you from getting into a base, and rocket hovers outrange almost everything in T1 including HLTs. Something like 5 hovertanks and 2 antiairs and rockets each wouldn't stall your boom too badly and that could easily wipe a couple of players' bases and trigger a resignation vote if they aren't prepared for them. Also, if you're playing Cortex, they have a heavy hovertank that's basically a T2 unit, just one of those by itself early would be a monster even if you threw it at the frontline. And one more thing, if you're making hovers, you should send construction hovers over and grab all the mexes on the islands if your navy players aren't grabbing them, that's a lot of metal income.

    • @rakkel6061
      @rakkel6061 Před rokem +1

      ...it's a much more copy paste of the original...Total Annihilation. Supreme commander 1 was a spiritual successor of TA. For this game the names of the teams on this are even a direct reference to TA's Arm and Core. If you want to call it out, that's what it is. Just a heads up.

    • @cyanide7270
      @cyanide7270 Před rokem

      @rakkel6061 oh look, someone that thinks they're doing something by being semantic of it copying the original, to which point, no its not. Total Annihilation played much more as a traditional early RTS, like Command and Conquer and Dune. Supreme Commander was a spiritual successor, yes, but it changed a lot of gameplay aspects and made it much more wide scaled. This does not play like a traditional RTS like TA, but plays like SC, yet changes nothing. It is a straight up copy of SC.
