I'm sure someone else will mention this but the saying Elle says about getting into Harvard "what like its hard" burns so much more when you realize that Warner got waitlisted and she didn't lol
To prepare for her role as Elle Woods, Reese Witherspoon spent two weeks studying the behavior of sorority girls, as she did not wish to portray a stereotypical airhead sorority image. She states on the DVD commentary that they were all very kind and polite, and she enjoyed her time with them. She also observed women shopping from the café at Neiman Marcus, and attended law school for a day.
Something that a lot of people miss: when Warner asks about the costume, Elle pointedly does not throw Vivian under the bus, and just says she did it on her own.
It's Vivian fault and she's Warners fiance, but she STILL didn't tell on her.
I watched a video of a lawyer reacting to the first movie a while back and he said that being a fashion merchandising major wouldn’t be an issue to get into law school, because every industry needs lawyers so having an in depth knowledge of an industry comes in handy from a legal standpoint. They like variety in students.
Ah, That's Legal Eagle. I watched that video as well and hadn't really considered it before but to be honest it makes sense when you think about it. If you want lawyers in all areas then it probably would be easier to take a student with a background in that area and then just slap a law education on top of it.
This video was a blast to the paaaaast. The hand held mic eraaaa. It's been a long time since we had Sam's finger watch featured in a video.

The counselor said she needed at least a 175 to get in.
The LSAT question we heard was a real sample question from the actual test.
This is one of the few instances that implements the "study with distractions" method, and it pays off. Basically: never try to study quietly. It'll do nothing but make it worse for when you take the actual test. You study with distractions, anything quieter will feel like a piece of cake. And on the flip side: if it is noisy, now you're used to it.
And as for her score: A perfect score is a 180. And she got a 179.
In regards to Elle's black suits in both movies, but specially the second since it was mentioned, she wears black right before the "all is lost" moment of the film. That is the moment when her character is least herself, when she is ready to let bygones be bygones and go back home a "looser", and her character is devoid of her bubbly and friendly personality. But then when she has her inspiring moment and gets back on her feet she wears pink again, in a different way than before , a more mature and serious way. In my opinion it's used to signify that although she has been changed and grown because of the events in the film she is still herself. that
Also I love that in the first film the pink loving, blonde sorority sisters who are usually depicted as vapid and mean are genuinely supporting and loving and celebrate Elle when she gets het LSAT score. While the Harvard students who dress mostly in brown preppy clothes and are usually characters who are depicted as down to earth and kind are the ones who are mean and judgemental. I love a good trope inversion.
Warner was seeing them both AT THE SAME TIME!
That's why he said, "I need a Jackie, not a Marilyn." Vivian was the girlfriend, Elle was the "mistress".
That could also be because of Marilyn being stereotyped as a dumb blonde. Also, Jackie was a burnette, much like Warners fiancé. (It's a loaded sentence of bs.)

13:52 the real brilliance of the way she says this doesn't truly pay off until later, when we find out he only got in because he pulled some strings with his dad, and SHE got in on her own merits.
1:17 Basic college dorms are generally pretty small and not great. The thing is Elle doesn't live in a dorm she lives in a sorority house.
However, Elle's sorority house is still on the extreme compared to the average sorority house in the US. Some similar to it do exist, but I feel it heavily depends on the school and the region of the US.

Love the comp, these were some of my fabe reactions. Also, fr those who dont understand, many, not all but many, typically study at one university then go on to law or medical school, so her graduating from UCLA then going to Harvard is like getting a BA then going for your Masters

She's not transferring colleges. Harvard Law is a Graduate School. She is finishing her Bachelor's degree (4 year undergrad degree) and applying for Law School (typically 3 years, Graduate program) which you need the BD for. Then she has to take the Bar Exam and pass to become a lawyer and earn her JD (Juris Doctor) Degree.
There's typically 4 levels of degrees
Associates (2 year)
Bachelor's (4 year)
Masters (~2-3 years)
Doctorate (varies)
You need a Bachelors Degree to apply for the upper two programs usually. And an Associates degree is completely optional, you dont need it to get a Bachelors, but if you decide to get one after, it can count as the first 2 years of the Bachelors.

Harvard's a university: it's located in Cambridge Massachusetts. The campus is very large, and includes Radcliffe College, which, except for a brief time during WWII, was designated for women until the mid-1970s. One of Radcliffe's famous graduates is Helen Keller, who, as a disabled person, fought hard to get past the obstacles blocking her from attending.
I first read about Radcliffe in the late 1970s, when I read the novel "Love Story". The narrator, a Harvard student, meets his love interest at Radcliffe and gripes that her sharp snark clearly means that because of the high ratio of girls in Harvard, she must feel that girls are twice as smart as Harvard men.

I gotta say I am a lot like Stef when it comes to these movies. His commentary to both Legally Blonde films just resonates me so much! Then again, I imagine a lot of people do as well. I do hope you react to Legally Blondes; it’s kinda canon, as the twins are her cousins and what their dad says at the beginning most likely means Legally Blonde 3 is underway. And it is being worked on, from what I understand.

Harvard is a whole town, but not the one that Harvard University is in. Harvard University is in Cambridge, MA, across the river from Boston.
(And yes, it's very normal--in fact, kind of expected--to switch schools between undergrad and grad school. You could get your bachelors from Harvard, your Masters from Princeton, and a PhD at Yale, if you wanted to look super preppy. Grad school is as different from undergrad as undergrad is from high school.)

The original ending had it end after the trial, where Emmet kisses Elle, and it cuts to a year later where she and Vivian are suntanning on the beach.
This was changed because they wanted a payoff with Warner, so they added the scene with Elle telling Warner no last minute.
In America if your a law student or doc you go from you 4 year school to a specialty school for 3 to 8 more years

Harvard is right next to/basically in Boston MA, there’s a lot of other big colleges in the area as well so its a big city college town

College dorms don't look like that in the States. She lives in a Sorority House which is very different! Greek Life here is weird, I'm not into it at all, but usually Fraternities and Sororities/fraternities on campus have their own house somewhere on campus, or very close off-campus, where members of the group can live. Usually I think you have to be a member for a certain amount of time? I'm not sure. Again, not into it, because it seems kind of creepy. And historically made up of conventionally attractive white people.
Those were real frat boys cheering the girl on the bike. They happened to wander by while they were filming, and they got put in.
