    The best part about the 50 State Shred is FINALLY getting to some of the places that I have heard SO MUCH about but haven't made time to go ride. Brown County has been hyped up by you guys from the very start of my channel. It's hard to believe, but this place completely lived up to the hype.

    @BKXC A couple of things: first, thank you for riding our trails! Our state is blessed to have an amazing network, which you only scratched the surface of, by the way. There’s SO MUCH MORE you didn’t ride! Come back soon!
    Second, about that gate/off road fee…those fees don’t go to us. These trails are built and maintained by Hoosier Mountain Bike Association. Volunteers do much of this work!
    And a bonus number three…you met Steve Miller! (the guy on the Chromag). He is somewhat infamous in these parts for so many reasons LOL come back soon, my friend.

      Griffin is nothing compared to Brown County. Griffin is over hyped, wouldn't travel more than an hour for that place. It's only saving grace is it's skill park for those who enjoy that stuff, which I don't. As a local trail system, overall it's great, but it's really not a travel destination of any real distance.

    Man, I went there in July, I tried doing schooner and heard the exact same sound from that same cave. I got it on video and looking back at the video it was a skunk. Scared the crap out of me. It was a damp day and between that animal and the crazy rocks right before I said screw it and turned around and just went and did the other trails (it was the first trail of the day for me).
    Also, they were collecting the gate fee and you had to go to the main office and pay an additional $5 to ride the non beginner trails. I asked and the $5 goes to the local trail build association who maintains the trails.

    • @Cliftyman
      @Cliftyman Před 3 lety

      Might be buzzards. We have a bunch of rocks that fell off the cliff that formed a "cave" and for 10 years buzzards (vultures) have been raising their young in there. They make a horrible hissing noise when you get close.

      Also, at 15:25, that's sort of like what all the trails are like where I ride in St. John's, Newfoundland.

    5:18 = where I broke my knee cap... I didn't have my gloves with me, landed that jump, right hand slid off my grip when I landed, weight on the bike was completely off balance, crashed on the left side and smashed my knee into a huge rock on the trail. Wasn't wearing my knee pads either. The lesson is gloves are a hell of a lot more important than you might think lol also probably wear knee pads too

    Doctor Park has a super long downhill with only like a 5 min climb about 3/4 of the way down. Would highly recommend.
    Also, the Pipeline descent near Pikes Peak is pretty epic, but does have some significant climbing and requires 4x4 shuttle vehicles.

    Last couple weeks, was at BCSP and I have never seen a State Park as busy.

    I had been away from mountain biking for over 10 years when I decided to buy myself a Gary Fisher Marlin for my 50th birthday, in 2010. Rode BCSP a couple of weeks later, and did my first XC race there the next year (on that same 30.5 pound Marlin). Absolutely love that place! There are some other good trail systems in Indiana, but Brown County is the bomb-diggity!

    When I go back to visit mom and dad, I'm 25 minutes from Brown County. I live that distance from Cuyuna. Its a cross I have to bear...

      Make sure to hit up Bemidji and Grand Rapids if you haven't already. Great stuff in the Iron Range too, but I rarely go that far unless I'm skiing.

    At the end of this 50 state tour, you should do a video of best state of trails, which surprised you the most, most disappointing. etc. would be cool to see the options
