Trey wasn't ready. The whole team has a different energy when Jimmy is QB. No offense to Lance but that's just the experience and time being teammates. They've been through a lot with Jimmy at the helm. You can tell they got his back and play harder when he's out there. 49ers should be counting their lucky stars that Jimmy is still with them

The problem for the 49ers is neither QB will develop into great QBs. Jimmy G still plays like a developmental QB because he’s miss so much time due to injuries. Here comes Trey with the same issues.

Favorite Jimmy G moment was when he went toe to toe with Drew Bree’s in that saints game back in 2019, when he hit Kittle for that 40 yard reception on 4th and 2. Was an absolute shoot out when the teams were supposed to be top defenses. Easily his best game, and was real fun watch. Continue with your nonsensical argument Nick

There was a time when QB development was given to arc around approximately a 3-5 season tenure. Now, the expectation is that a rookie QB step in and be immediate world beaters, or they are reflexively written off as busts...sometimes as early as by the end of the first pro game they ever play.

Such an understated point. I'm sick of these franchises and fans who know nothing about qb development and just expect these young qbs with no experience to go out and beat defensive coordinators whove been in the game for decades. I think thats why we see so many running qbs being the darlings. The threat expands offense but their constant scrambling just shows either low football iq, bad lines or awful qb coaching (which I think is almost completely overlooked).

@@yaddi7921 The odds are against any team winning the Super Bowl period, so yeah SF will probably not do so. But Trey would not have improved their chances. And no Franchise is going to give you a top tier QB in trade. So, limited as he may be, Jimmy is your best option.

Nick right I get what you're saying about Jimmy G and his lack of big moment wins. He does have one big moment when, it was against the saints in the playoffs when he outgunned Drew Brees. Other than that he lost a lot of games for us in the playoffs and we know this.
1 loss in the playoffs is not "a lot of games". If you want to count the Super Bowl as a playoff game, then it's 2 losses in the playoffs, which isn't "a lot of games" either. And it wasn't Garoppolo that lost us those games, it was Shanahan's play calling. He did it as OC in Atlanta in the Super Bowl, he did it as HC in San Francisco in the Super Bowl, and he did it in the NFC Championship game last year. Yet Garoppolo unfairly gets all the hate.

JimmyG is just this generations’ Brad Johnson and Trent Dilfer. Great team around him to carry him and he doesn’t have to do much to get the win other than just be decent and make some decent plays here and there.
He is better than Trent Dilfer. Those days were tough man. Those offenses couldn't score. Jimmy is an average -ish starter. Better than Mac Jones but worse than Kirk Cousins. Somewhere in the middle. Better than Jameis too. Jimmy got the 2nd best cmp% in NFL history.

All he has done is win with the 49ers , in the Regular Season anyway 😂 He has had some Playoff Success . Cowboys had 14 penalties and terrible coaching, Packers couldn't score a TD after the first drive with Rodgers at home, Rams gave the game away two different times and they still won, Niners got lucky and Jimmy G did not play well in any of those games, only hope for the niners is that the NFC sucks right now

Percentage wise, what are the chances of Jimmy G playing the next 15 games without getting injured. For me it's around 5%. Jimmy G is a truly great back up to have, but now there is no back up.

Jimmy outplayed Stafford last year in Week 17 (not playoffs but was a must win game). He's outplayed a lot of other guys to win games in the regular season, but it's true in the playoffs he has been carried a lot by that good Niners defense and run game. He's also came up short twice when his team needed him, in the SB and in last years NFC champ game, but that doesn't mean he's a total scrub who's incapable of winning big games.

Nick, usually I’m on your side on this show, but man even Kyle Shanahan who has clearly been wanting to improve at QB over Jimmy G. However even he and all the 49ers players and many personnel and sources around the team all seem to agree that even though Jimmy G isn’t the best QB his ceiling isn’t high. However his ceiling and floor are much tighter and more predictable than Trey Lance’s right now. If the 9ers were just a playoff team or less than maybe yes you go back to Lance when he’s healthy. But the 9ers believe and are seen to be a Superbowl caliber team, so putting Jimmy in may not be a bad idea since Lance is still in need of development.
