  • Chris Broussard says you can blame Jimmy Garoppolo for the San Francisco 49ers' loss to the Los Angeles Rams in the NFC Championship game, but he won't. Watch as he makes a case for Jimmy G, and why Nick Wright insists the quarterback blew it for his team. Plus, the crew talks Matthew Stafford's performance and Jaquiski Tartt's missed interception.

Below average?!, despite the game winning drives he had in week 18 (twice actually, regulation and OT), and the game winning drive against Green Bay in Division round? Not to mention all the other drives he has helped 49ers win to get to postseason 2 of the last 3 years. If that is below average then your average must be really high. 49ers are not a team that relies on passing game like 80% of the NFL. They are a run first team. JG fits this team well..it is his injuries that cost us the losing seasons and not getting to playoffs and the reason for getting a QB in the draft. If 49ers didn't go crazy in the draft last year, JG would still be on this team next year, we would still have a rookie QB behind him developing and stepping in when JG gets hurt. 49ers trading those additional 1st round picks put them in this spot to get rid of JG, but I can guarantee if they stayed in their original draft spot and ended up getting a QB with not giving up additional 1st round picks, JG would be on the team next year with the performance he had this year.

Even the GOAT, Brady, struggles against pressure. There's no denying that. But even in those tough games, he almost always finds a way to beat it in the end.
Jimmy G crumbles under pressure, both against the o-line, and in high stakes situations. He has a good outing every now and then (like that week 18 game against LA). But more times than not, whenever the pressure is at its highest, Jimmy G falls apart, just like he did in the SB 2 years ago, and just like he did in the 4th quarter of this game against LA.

They're both right. You can win with Jimmy G and sometimes he can be the reason, but usually he's more along for the ride. That loss isn't all on Jimmy G, but he had an opportunity to win it and he couldn't pull it off. He's not a completely terrible QB, but he is probably a third quartile QB. He is a winner because he's won a lot more than most other below average QBs and it's not just because he's been on fantastic teams (but it's mostly because of that). You are right Allan, it is a team game. JG is a key component in 49ers winning, just like the rest of the players on the team. They can ALL get the job done, hence why they have been to 2 NFC Championships in the last 3 years. He had a good game, made some good throws but couldn't get us the game winning drive like he did in week 18 (twice actually, in regulation and in OT) against the Rams and like he did in Green Bay for the GW FG. Everyone that hates on JG does not understand the game of football...you just look at stats and expect perfection (no INT's, aka Rodgers). If 49ers win this game, Stafford would never get treated like JG for that pick in the endzone because he throws for over 300 yards on a regular basis so he must be really good. The 49ers are a run first team, slinging the ball for 300+ is not their style and it is not expected of JG to do week in and out.

You talk about he got you in position to kick a FG to win a game in GB but forgot to mention his special teams scored there only touchdown and their defense held GB to only 10. So the LEAST he could do is get you in FG range. More to my point when you take away the run game and Debo and force Jimmy G to throw the ball he comes up short. Stafford constantly got it done on third down. You people are weird, Jimmy G is the only QB that you would say don’t look at the stats… yea because when you do you will see his TEAM carried him

But JG knows how obviously. I think he is criticized way too much by the media and fans. So yes, underrated by media, but with how much 49ers are paying him we expect him to be on the field more and not turn it over as much. 49ers front office with that huge draft trade for Lance really didn’t give JG a chance to keep his starting job for next year despite how well he would have played this year.

Sorry football is the greatest TEAM SPORT!!! Not individual sport where a 1 player can carry a team like in Basketball. Didn’t Mahomes loose in the AFC Championship, and isn’t he the best current QB in the league? So it doesn’t always come down to the best QB on the field. It comes down to the team that executes on Offense, Defense and Special Teams. Inside each of those there is also which line performs better, which RB getting a going, which receiver/DB matchup plays better. You can have the best QB and lose or you can have the worst QB and win (Trent Dilfer with Baltimore). It’s how the whole team performs in the NFL. Jimmy G executed the game plan, Rams D line just executed better by holding the 49ers to 50 yards rushing.
