    For those wondering why you cannot use the throttle during a cold start:
    Opening the choke fully lets as much air in as possible. It also creates a pressure differential that draws more fuel in. This is perfect for a cold start. The reason you DO NOT EVER use the throttle when cold starting is because of having the choke fully open. The choke being open already allows a significantly large amount of fuel and air into the engine. If you use the throttle, you are going to dump way too much fuel into the engine, flushing out all the air, flooding the engine, and causing it to stall. During a cold start, you have to let the choke determine the fuel intake, NOT the throttle.

      It’s called a choke because it chokes off the air through a small opening creating a high -velocity- of air right next to the opened choke circuit, pulling a lot of fuel for a very rich mixture that is easier to start,

      @jasonm3835 Před měsícem

      @@JoeTheBlacksmith13This is a much more accurate description.

      Let me clear some things up. Technically, these carburetors have enrichments, not chokes. A choke and an enrichment accomplish the same task but go about it in two different ways.
      A choke works by restricting airflow through the venturi (using a butterfly valve) allowing more fuel to be pulled from the pilot jet. This restriction in airflow richens the mixture and allows for easier starting when cold.
      An enrichment works differently.
      An enrichment uses a separate passage for fuel to flow once the enrichment is pulled. The airflow isn't restricted, but much more fuel is added. This in turn, richens the mixture.
      So ultimately, the real reason you don't want to twist the throttle when using the enrichment is: opening the throttle adds air to the mix leaning the ratio out. And the whole point to using an enrichment or choke is to richen the mixture for cold starts. That's why you leave the throttle alone when the enrichment is pulled.
      Enrichments are often colloquially referred to as chokes in owner's manuals, and many carburetor manufacturers will cast an image of a butterfly valve on the side of the carb to indicate where the "choke" is located, even though these carbs don't use butterflies at all.

      Pumping the throttle when the bike isn't running isn't doing anything. These carburetors don't have accelerator pumps so no fuel is going into the engine. All that is happening is the slide is going up and down, nothing else.

      Raver HTID it’s hard for first time riders to kick that kick start because they’re not used to the compression. It’s not starting cause you’re not kicking it hard/fast enough. It’ll take some time but just keep practicing, if you kick it too many times you might flood the bike (too much gas in the carb) just turn the bike on it’s side for a second and let it drain out then try again. • @BrapGenius
      @BrapGenius  Před 4 lety

      Squirrel you pull the clutch in and then push the brake pedal and the brake lever

    If it don’t start you probably foaled a plug or blew it up cause I’m assuming you’d know an estimate of have fill your tank is

    what about half choke?

    • @BrapGenius
      @BrapGenius  Před rokem

      You can put it down to half choke for a minute after you get it started if it’s cold out

  • @hillbillymoto8695

    The slow kicks are not to get gas smh that has nothing to do with gas. It’s to build compression.

    So surely dirt bikes are easy to steal if there’s no key system

    • @BrapGenius
      @BrapGenius  Před 2 lety

      Depends there are plenty of locks and you can install a key system for them some of them come with it

      If it floods turn it on it’s side and let the excess gas drain out

  • @36surferjoe

    • @BrapGenius
      @BrapGenius  Před rokem

      @@ratdad48 is it a 4 stroke or 2 stroke

    • @ratdad48
      @ratdad48 Před rokem

      I should have mentioned that. 4 stroke. Yes I can crank it cold...first kick. Ride it awhile, like to a store close to me. Then go to crank it and it takes 8 or so kicks. Tried different things like adjusted air mixture screw, put in brand new plugs, choked it etc.

    This video didn’t help me at all. My dirt bike won’t start the only thing I want to know is if you DO pull in the clutch or you DONT pull in the clutch when starting it up because mine is a kick starter

    • @BrapGenius
      @BrapGenius  Před 5 lety +1

      Kentucky wild KitKats I always pull the clutch in and try starting it in neutral
