    Nice lanterns. Yeah, restoring old things can be a long process, sometimes. We all have different levels of tenacity... Or maybe it's just toleration of chore involved. Me, I'm a Army veteran: no matter how grueling the task or training, we just grinned and asked for more. Haha, that was 3 decades ago. Yeah, i have two lanterns in my shed. Even though it is wired, the lanterns provide light and heat! Not 40kBtus, but just enough to take the edge off of a 25°F day. Looking forward to the lamp cookery...could be a hit!

    Thanks a million! I found an old lantern similar to yours and couldn't figure how to remove the shade. I was getting closer then did a search.
    I have to clean mine up and repaint it.
    Cheers.

    Awesome job on the CT ham lantern there Ken! Me too I’m a wick snob too myself, as I like to have the flame just perfect & fine tuning on the trimming of the wicks on my lanterns! 👍👍 Neat little battery lantern too & a cool air duster that you scored too! 🙂🙂 Beautiful day here to light a few lanterns & it’s lantern time!🙂🙂

      Thanks Jeff and that air Duster was one of the best tools I’ve bought I have found so many uses for that thing it’s unbelievable including cleaning out my toaster and grill of all things but especially for drying out the lantern founts that I have to do a complete wash on that I often buy in filthy condition 👍

    • @lotsatrains
      @lotsatrains  Před 8 měsíci +1

      Wicks should be trimmed straight across in most cases unless you have a deformed cone. This gives the widest and brightest flame. This is how these burner cones have been designed for maximum efficiency.

    You should look into setting up a electrolysis tank which can be done in a 5 gallon bucket. It's really easy and much cheaper and less labor than paint stripper.

    Another great video. I need more practice with wick trimming. I take the scissors and cut straight across using the burner as my guide. Still, it seems the flame wants to do its own thing. 😀.

    If you have a 500 farad capacitor you may try a diode bridge and a induction pan cake coil and you could use that to run an led light and just have a cell phone charge charge up a led lamp and maybe use a solar panel to run the induction charger. Just a nutty idea.

      Thanks so much I kind of been a fan of lanterns since I was a kid by using them on camping trips and stopped camping as I got older but when I became a father and took my son to a model train display bought a small one for him in the gift shop took it home and dug out my 2 at the time which had been in storage for many years and fueled them up and burned them outside that night and the rest is history but as for my favorites I probably would say the large cold blasts but no particular one just depends on my mood 👍
