i feel like the secret to bill evans chord voicings more than anything was incredibly sophisticated counterpoint voice leading. he attributed this to his sabbatical year where he did almost nothing but intensive studies of bach chorales. ive been looking for a tutorial on his interpretation of emily for over a year now, thank you so much
HEY KENT ! GREAT TO HEAR YOU PLAY THIS BEAUTIFUL SONG. YOU PLAY IT AS IF YOU MUST HAVE WRITTEN IT ! I ACTUALLY SAW AND HEARD BILL PLAY THIS IN A VERY SMALL CLUB IN HOUSTON, LIKE 1969 ? I ALSO GOT TO MEET HIM BACKSTAGE. HE WAS VERY SHY ! PLAYED GREAT ! AWESOME GUY ! SO GOOD TO HEAR YOU BROTHER ! BEST !
Thank you, Kent. I purchased Emily sheet music yesterday, as Emily is not in any of my many books. I think it is one of the most beautiful songs ever written. You did a beautiful job. Thank you, again.
the video of bill performing this in finland is my favorite bill evans performance. the serene bell like sound of the bosendorfer is so perfect for the tune
Having read a lot of books on jazz piano, I have to say yours is the most practical and helpful. In combination with the videos you have given us powerful learning tools. Thank you.
Tatum, Erroll, Chick And Herbie did quite a bit of that. What made Bill special for me is that Bill loved playing beautiful melodies and was so good at Harmony. The other guys with the exception of Erroll Garner and Art Taum had very little interest in playing these beautiful standards. Herbie and Chick became bored with playing standards, Bill always loved beautiful melodies and harmony. I spoke to Bill on the phone just before he died, great guy. I miss you Bill.
Thanks for everything, Kent🙌🙏 I’m such a better musician through your tips and guidance! Always appreciate what you’re putting out
Wonderful!!!!!! Thank you Ken.
Thanks for this superb analysis. I am hearing Bill Evans like new after 35 years of listening.
It's so amazing of you to teach these things. I'm so interested in learning jazz but unfortunately there are no good teachers around . I come here and learn so much!!. Thank you so much for doing this😄
I can't play anywhere close to this level, but I must thank you so much, that I now understand your explanations of the theory behind what you're playing. All due to your book and videos. May your wisdom continue, Kent.
This is such a beautiful arrangement Kent, I really appreciate your teaching and explaining the concept. Thank you!
Kent, your teaching is inspiring as always. And we are so lucky you like Bill Evans so much!
THANK YOU for doing this tune, Kent! Gorgeous!
Oh lovely Bill Evans. You explain him so well !
Yay! I love that tune. It's haunted me for years. Thanks for sharing!
The best unpacking of Bill Evans I’ve ever seen on the net. This guy just keeps on delivering highly intelligent analysis of jazz piano concepts. Thanks for sharing your intellect and passion with us all mate.
Gonna jump right on this , Kent. Been meaning to say hi for a long while. You stay safe, and keep putting beauty and love out there, zigzag
More great stuff. You have a way of knowing the exact points us students want to figure out. "like someone in Love" is my favorite Bill Evans tune but this one is wonderful too.
Thank you very much mr. Hewitt! your tutorials have been very helpful to me in the understanding various jazz concepts! thank you for helping me improving my skills!
