  • Bass fishing from a surf beach the easy way! International angler Graeme Pullen shows The Totally Awesome Fishing Show one of his basic rigs for surf fishing. The easy to follow procedure is followed up by some non-stop action from one of his short evening sessions from the world famous inch strand beach in Co Kerry, Southern Ireland. Flounders and Bass are caught, and you get a glimpse of one of the most pristine environments left on the planet - the mile long Inch Strand that has faced the Atlantic Ocean gales for centuries. When the wind blows from the south-west, it's the beach to be. The bass are one of the world's most highly prized shore catches with fish to double figures taken most years. This vintage film opens the door as to what success can be achieved, with just a basic rig and the Totally Awesome Fishing conditions!!

    Great video, I am fortunate to live in Kerry and I am surrounded by storm beaches (Banna,Barrow, Ballybunion,Ballyheigue, are all within 5 miles but Inch is truly the best, we had 20 Bass and countless flounder one night over low water, bass up to 6lb, the methods shown in this video may be old but are still the best, I am a firm believer that if you get fancy with bass fishing you will lose It was great to see the fish going back aswell, catch and release is the way forward, fair play TAFishing

    Just a little input from "across the pond". We keep our bait worms in "mildly dry" seaweed in small bakery boxes. The seaweed shouldn't be dripping but it shouldn't be hardening either. We can usually keep them up to a week or so without that much shrinkage. You can actually put a little news paper on the bottom of the box to make sure there's no water build up and change that paper as needed.

    Yes, had plenty of smallmouth in freshwater lakes on Cape Cod ,plus Pickerel (a sort of pike) as a sideline.Then had Largemouth Bass all over from Florida's Lake Okechobee to Arkansas,and right across to Utah by the Grand Canyon. They are everywhere. Personally I dont think they are great scrappers,but they are a "cult" fish over there.I think the smallmouth is the better fighter.

    When making rigs I like to use my rod rest attach the top of the rig to the top of the rod rest and it all hangs nicely so you can see what you are doing. I am getting old so I use a small stool to sit at the side of it with my box on a small table at my side, saves me the back acke. Near me I buy cheaper grip leads with no beads on the grabs it is very easy to straighten the grabs and add a small bead which helps hold the grips and helps them come off when you strike.

    Graeme, I remember avidly reading your work in the Sea Angling Handbook. In one article you fished for true "Monkfish" using groundbait in Ireland. Any chance of a future film as I am feed up of seeing Anglerfish refereed to as Monkfish. Best Dave

  • @TAFishing
    @TAFishing  Před 11 lety

    No way you could ever plan it, as you will always be able to fish it, but which day would be the one when the surf is up ? Its weather dependant, but even so its a spot worth fishing, as there are nearly always some tables of water coming in as the beach is so flat. You are sure to get some wind so I still think its worth a shot. From now through to end of October is good.

    slightly neater if you put the red loop through the yellow loop and drop the hook through the red loop.seems to tighten up better. Makes no difference to catch rate though!!

    Nicely digitised Graeme, you can see just how old this is, just take a look at the wet gear and the tackle your useing ? ( way back in the day ) yeh i'm getting on a bit too, inch strand is somewhere you do not hear much about these days? but what a beautifull part of the world it is.The fishing was always excellent back then, but how is these days ??? O' don't worry about the specs Graeme i have to wear them to these days for close up work + knots, All the happy fishing :-)
