That looks like a good start to me cuz even without weight my back keeps titling forward at the bottom of the squat and i feel it in my back when I try straighten in it up
Watch Overtimeathletes channel he has a bunch of videos on Vertical Jump training and he has a crazy vertical himself. He trains a bunch of professional and collegiate level athletes.
Barbell back squat one rep max has actually shown a very high correlation with your vertical. After starting strength training for around a year, a friend of mine got up to a 350 lb squat and was able to dunk a basketball at just 5'8" height
How to overhead squat=do an overhead squat lol. I think you forget most people can hardly get anywhere near this in the beginning, even with plates under heels
He broke it down pretty simply. If you can't do the extended arm goblet squats, then just do regular ones, or do plain old bodyweight squats until you have the strength & balance to move forward. I mean in all fairness if you're a true gym beginner you shouldn't be attempting an overhead squat anyways, not until you can do the simpler exercises.
I don't think the video was made for a complete newbie but for anyone looking to learn how to practice this form. If you tried it and found that you're not ready, that's ok. You'll get there if you keep building on the basics.
I think the PVC method would be more interesting if they were all 45 pound barbells. Bugenhagen are you listening?
We need a full over head squat video, mobilisation, escalation, common weak points.
Step 1: have actual mobility. 😂
Me:
Damn she was doing too much🗿
Could you please make a video about dealing and preventing si-joint pain when deadlifting and squatting? Thanks 🙏🏼
Tons of videos on this look at his channel
I can do normal squat ass to grass but once I move the bar above my head I lose all depth even far from 90 degrees.

I've seen the PVC pipe video before and KNEW that wasn't right, but couldn't put my finger on why. This makes sense.
what in da crossfit was that setup 😂
bro got cake
I like that Smith machine idea though
When I use a PVC pipe, it feels like I got it. As soon as I switch to the empty bar, it’s a disaster. 😢
I there any way to do an overhead squat with a shoulder grip-width?
Can't I just do the over head squat from the start?
What is that medieval torture device that they have that poor woman in?!
The overhead squat stance width, does it have to be wider ? So that we can properly squat?
Man I just tried it. I can't do it with feet so narrow. Light weight, just have to keep practicing.
Lol omg, yeah that's a lot of hassle to get into
how do you safely fail the overhead squat? I'm gradually building up my ohs, but I am really scared to go up
Any advice for workouts to increase my vertical?
