    If you want a tip for how to collect plates, my mom made a deal with her MIL almost 30 years ago, that she should buy my mom one item from the collection she wanted until she had a full set. That way it was super easy for MIL to find a gift and mom got her full collection. So if your friends or family are unsure what to buy you for birthdays and Christmas, you can tell them that one plate, bowl or whatever is enough. 😊

      My dining chairs took forever to find.
      I wanted a specific style and size of frames and lemme tell you, it took 6 months to find some that were reasonably prized.
      I think it's even more extreme when you like vintage/antiques. You need to first find it, but then it has to be either shipable, or close enough to fetch. You might try 15 different charity/thrift stores for the right frames. Even more flea markets.
      And then your grandma gives you the perfect picture frame, but there's a hair art in it that looks like it's ready to fall apart if you open the frame and I wanna sob that picture frame is exactly what I want, but I don't want to have hair hanging in my living room.

      It took ages to find bed frame I don't hate, that is small enough to fit between wall and wardrobe in mine tiny bedroom (I messed up a little when wardrobe was installed and didn't notice guys put it a little to far).
      Also: my bookcases are not what I had in mind, but... I ordered 3 Billy bookcases from IKEA in grey/blue color with glass doors. They came without doors. IKEA stopped making them. I returned them. I found really cheap bookcases in local outlet furniture shop... and I bought 4 of them (they are lower then IKEA ones, so needed more). I love them now ... and I have paid for all 4 of them as much as I would pay for 1 of those Billy bookcase. Sure, they don't have glass doors, but they have sliding doors, that covers only part of them and I love that they can "hide" all not-so-pretty things :)

    • @michellebyrom6551
      @michellebyrom6551 Před rokem +24

      @dog having pictures at average eye level - 140 to 180 cms - works best in most homes, somewhere around lightswitch height or above. They can be higher up when they need the viewer to stand at a distance. A large picture opposite a sofa would sit higher than the smaller picture by a chair. Groups of pictures need to be treated as one large picture for positioning.
      Prop the picture at different heights and check it from across the room. The right height should feel the most comfortable.

      I agree. The round opening thought to be a cupholder is for a small ashtray, and the other openings hold containers for cigarettes and a lighter, or matches. It will be a huge challenge to find the holders in the right sizes for those openings at this point, but use your imagination to repurpose the pull-out. Find shallow dishes that fit the height of the pull-out and cut the pullout to fit the new items. Maybe a hide-away for a TV remote for the TV you don't own yet?

It's been a delight watching you evolve over the years; my favorite Karolina videos are the ones in which you passionately share your views on the deeply flawed human condition. You deserve every bit of happiness you're experiencing... and while I understand why you meant to bring perspective to the pace at which you've purchased your furnishings, etc., you owe nobody any such explanations. Thank you for showing how gradual moving is, especially fixing up your first house! And with two extra things: having a specific taste outside the norm and (maybe I'm projecting but) not living in the US/western Europe. It feels like every tip I get on the internet for finding anything niche in an accessible price range only applies to the USA and UK and, living in Brazil, I always have to consider the time it'll take to get here, if it's worth it to risk shipping (and shipping costs of course, but I'm guessing this part is not a problem in the eu). So yeah, it's frustrating to see how slow progress is and to live in a messy place for so long. Seeing the videos must be cool though, for us it's obvious the house is coming along! The most important part is to not lose steam (and, if you haven't already, to leave at least one small space organised, even if not finished: I always felt better retreating to the oasis that was my bedroom when the mess got too much in the rest of the house)
