  • How to install or replace everydrop® Filter 1 (EDR1RXD1) for 6 months of clean, fresh tasting water.
Find the correct filter for your refrigerator at everydropwater....
The filter compartment for everydrop® Filter 1 is located in the upper right hand corner inside the refrigerator or in the base grille. Lift the filter door up, pull the filter out and discard it. Open your new filter and remove the protective covering from the O-rings. Make sure the O-rings are still in place have the cover has been removed. When inserting the new filter into the slot, make sure the arrow is pointing upward. Do not force the water filter. If it does not slide in easily, rotate it until the notches are properly aligned with the grooves. Push the filter door closed so it snaps into place. Flush the dispenser and you'll be ready for 6 more months of clean, fresh tasting ice and water.
The only water and ice filter approved for Whirlpool®, Maytag®, Amana®, KitchenAid® and JennAir® refrigerators.*
*everydrop® products and the recommending brands' products are all owned and distributed by Whirlpool Corporation.

Why does my filter replacement says I need to flush 4 gallons of water through the water filter before use? There is only a small water spout in the fridge (so the door has to stay open). 4 gallons would take a long time.

Attach garden hose to water dispenser spout and trail the other end of hose through house to back yard flower bed, so that water being flushed can water petunias.
Find a broom and prop broom handle against the water dispenser starter thingy, so that water is freely running from spout through garden hose and out the back door to petunia bed. Adjourn to TV and binge watch all episodes of This Old House while 4 gallons of water is flushing. To test water, run 8 ounces of water from dispenser into a clear glass. If water resembles freshly mixed concrete, particulates may remain. Repeat procedure as needed until water runs clear or you reach the end of This Old House reruns, whichever comes first. Make note to replace blackened petunias. Throw out defrosted and/or moldy food products and make note to buy bottled water.

It just happened to us three days ago. We Googled it and we read that we needed to keep it pressed for five minutes, we tried that it didn't work. Then we read that we had to press it for five seconds intervals for two minutes, but that didn't work either. In the mean time we had tried taking the filter in and out about five times as we tried the other suggestions but it had not worked. But we tried taking it out again a sixth time and this time when we pushed the filter back in, it finally worked! What a relief, we never had had that problem in the four years we've had this fridge. However, now our problem this time is that the water tastes earthy or like chemicals! We did flush six 2 quart jugs, as we always do, but it's still tasting bad. It's the first time we order it from Amazon instead of going inside of Lowe's, so we're wondering if it has something to do with that!? Maybe it's an old one!?

HOW TO REPLACE REFRIGERATOR FILTER IN FIFTEEN EASY STEPS
    1. Spend two hours on computer to determine plan of action.
    2. Per instructions, enter refrigerator to locate required model number.
    3. Go to store to buy magnifying glass and stronger reading glasses.
    4. Armed with model number, spend another hour on computer to order needed filter online. This cost will be higher than your electric bill, but fear not, it will last you six months! Guaranteed delivery in six weeks. Upon delivery, filter will be stolen from front porch within half an hour.
    5. Report theft to police, order another filter and make large gin and tonic.
    6. Upon receipt of second filter, read all package instructions thoroughly. For this purpose, go to store to buy next strength reading glasses and stronger magnifying glass. (Tip: You may omit this step as package labeling includes no instructions for installation. However, it will inform you that the filter, which has now cost you more than a Swiss watch, will remove NO contaminants from your water whatsoever, but it may help by keeping your scotch and water from smelling like a swimming pool.)
    7. Mix test scotch and water to determine aroma. Two test beverages may be required as results may vary. To ensure accuracy, pop popcorn and relax while watching computer videos of possible "filter door locations," purported to be mythical. Climactic moment of video will reveal that filter door is at floor level. Determine if filter change is really needed or they're just trying to rip you off for one of these things. Chlorine contamination must be clinically proven for this decision. Put scotch in glass and adjourn to neighbor's back yard for swimming pool water.
    8. Leap at high speed through pyracantha hedge while escaping neighbor's large family of Doberman Pinschers, thus spilling most contents of test beverage. Become aware of linguistic root of botanical term "pyracantha," meaning "fire" and "thorn" in Greek, Hindustani and Congolese.
    9. Apply remainder of test beverage to pyracantha wounds on legs.
    8. Upon surrendering to necessity of filter change, place pillows on floor in front of refrigerator.
    9. With help of Standard Poodle for support, kneel on pillows, being careful not to bleed on pillows or dislodge recent knee replacement.
    10. Replace old filter with new filter as shown in video. Poodle will lick up water on the floor but rest reassured, dog will have no chlorine odor!
    11. Doorbell will now ring. Poodle will bound to front door, barking significantly.
    12. Make attempt to rise from floor, despite bleeding calves and knee pain.
    13. Give up and summon Poodle. Be advised, poodle may maintain watch status at front door for some hours.
    14. Open liquor door cabinet next to fridge and withdraw scotch bottle. Apply as needed.
    15. Upon completion of installation, add bottled water to grocery list.

    • @summerbenham4239

I would recommend referring to your owner's manual for your fridge to see what they suggest. It may suggest that you allow 24 hours for the ice maker to produce a new batch of ice, and discard the first 3 batches of ice produced. This is based on the Ice Maker instructions for my fridge, which has an ice maker and water dispenser. I think this may be the equivalent of flushing the filter with 3 gallons of water. Hope that helps.

Went through many gallons (way more than 4) of water to get rid of cloudy particles and it still doesn’t look great. It's not clear. Also when I first changed the filter it said 100% on the "filter status" and after I went through gallons, it went downs to 99%. Such a gimmick and extremely frustrating considering the price on these filters. I am writing down the date I changed the filter and I'm NOT going by the stupid filter status on the fridge.
