(Yes, lovers of geography! I realize I should have said Caucusus instead of Carpathians. Please forgive me.)
I didn't realize the cat made a cameo. His name is Monkeyman and he is 16.
To the Barksdale's family and friends, I am so very sorry. Nick will be missed by all of us historians and history lovers. He brought us so much great content that was next to impossible to find anywhere else. This in itself created a community of people that loved topics like the late bronze age collapse, and biblical archeology. I knew Nick hasn't been well for a while now, but I held all hope that he would somehow pull through.
This was a very touching tribute. I wish you all the best. Nick was an amazing human being.
Amen and God bless his family and friends.
I got to know Nick through his hospital stays in OKC. He always talked about his motivations, his daughters. He fought so hard everyday. He will be missed by many.
What a fucking loss, man....Nick had such a great future with his family and this channel. One can only imagine the things that he would have accomplished.
We were hoping that he would recover. He was an inspiration to us all in his exploration of antiquity and the Middle Ages.
Man, I thought he was getting better. This sucks. RIP, Nick.
I am a new Sub. I didn't have the pleasure of meeting him but He spoke on one of his videos and the strong feeling of "trust came over me. So I left a post letting him know I trust in him. He was a searcher for truth and facts. Seems to be a dying breed these days. But I think I've found a community of like minded people. And I promise you I will do everything in my powers to protect it. Respect!🙏
This hurt this really hurt. RIP Nick
RIP Nick, you will be missed terribly.
I Lost my best friend and love to Endocarditis 2 1/2 years ago. I'm still reeling, and suffering excruciatingly emotionally, battling fentynl addiction, and feel so empty....
I'm so sad to hear that Nick has passed away from this horrendous thing known as endocarditis.... it takes many life's each year. I love you brother and thank you for your contributions to the world and even more: the contributions to your family and your friends and admirers.....rest peacefully my friend.
Thank you for letting us know. Nick has done more good in the world than he'll ever know.
Wish I had something to say for comfort. RIP
Very sad. What a loss for his wife, children and CZcams family. He was young and should have had many more years to share history stories with us.
Nick was always a better friend to me than I was to him. He had a great sense of humor and played a mean game of Risk. Always generous, he let me live with him when I needed a place to stay. When we had a falling out because I was being a drunk imbecile, he was humble enough to reach out to me to reconnect.
These last two years I haven't heard from him I assumed he was busy with his family and this channel. Life is so short. Spend time with your friends and loved ones and let the past stay there.
I'm going to miss playing AOE3 and talking history with Nick. My prayers go out to his friends and family.
RIP Nick. I have been praying for him and his family since he September or October when I found out about health issues. I’m continuing to pray for his wife and children.
Thanks for posting this to remember him. I think of him passing away, every day. So heartbreaking since he was so young and has a beautiful family.
Can't believe it. Such a loss. RIP Nick. 💔
He would have laughed at your story! Nick was my friend, we worked together at HPB in OKC and kept in touch despite me moving home to MA. I was so excited to see what he had up his sleeve next.
His loss is very heavy. It’s paralyzing really. To think of all that could have been, all the “is” turned to “was” and of course thinking about the family he left behind. I hope this channel continues on, as a lasting legacy for Nick.
I was so greatly saddened upon hearing of Nick's passing, that I was lost for words.
I didn't realise he was so young until Facebook informed me of his birthday last week, which he never had the chance to celebrate, and that knowledge deepened my sadness further still.
I've never been emotional when family members left us, maybe it's part of my autistic stoicism.
Nick and his channel helped reignite the fire and desire for knowledge that'd taken a back seat while my life had meandered out of control.
Nick didn't laugh at my often laughable ideas nor delete my posts, even when I thought them bordering fantasy, but offered a differing perspective which guided me to others with specific backgrounds to help with my studies.
Nick gave me a position moderating the Fb group, which I hope continues to be a platform for the spreading of knowledge, and, through both fora, I joined a greater community of people all with the same greater goal, and without Nick, none of that would have been possible.
Nick was a shining light, his enthusiasm was infectiously joyful, and his desire for learning was prevalent in his productions, his passing has left a void in our world which only continuing on his path can ease but never erase our collective loss.
Thank you for this, D.W, you helped unlock that part of me which couldn't voice my grief for his passing.
I hope you guys continue with the channel..I didn't always agree with him on things but it was nice to see he would listen to opposing views and do it professionally..He was really something else..I never met the man but felt I knew him..He did get you interested in reading up on history and how we are all connected and the history we all share..He will be missed but it would be a disservice if you guys didn't continue his work..
RIP 🪦 Nick, god bless
He knows Sweetie ❤️... He can hear you now in heaven... So very sorry for your loss. He will be remembered.
Was a joy to see his library grow behind him over the years and then the channel. Condolences all around, will be missed by all who knew.
R.I.P Nick ,this channel has inspired me to study history in a way I've never done before thank you nick 🙏
I'll cherish the videos on this channel forever 💔❤💔❤
Damnit... Damnit thats aweful. He really put his all into this channel.
If needed i can offer some limited help with channel maintenance or editing if the rest of the team wishes to carry on.
Wow. I am in absolute shock. This is very sad to hear. Nick was an incredible man. I first met Nick through a mutual FB group where we talked about non-fiction books, especially Ancient Persian and Near Eastern History books. He was very kind and helpful in terms of giving me advice for my M.A. thesis. Over the past couple of years, I have been dealing with some health problems myself which have hindered me from completing my M.A. Slowly but surely I have been improving, but it hasn't been easy. G-d willing, with your permission, I would like to dedicate my thesis in Nick's memory when it is completed. Let me know what you think.
I want to send my condolences to the entire Barksdale family and friends. Nick was truly an inspiration to us all. He will be terribly missed. RIP.
I am very sorry to hear that Nick has passed away. I collaborated with him and found him to be an honest and straightforward person. He had a genuine passion for the past. He will be sadly missed.
Nick will be greatly missed. He was a master teacher. I always looked forward to his videos. Requiescat in pace.
That is such sad news. Thank you for letting us know.
He was my favorite historian on CZcams. I’ll always remember him and his work.
Rest in peace. You've made the world a better place by making us all more knowledgeable.
Oh no ☹ I knew he was in a really bad situation in November but then he unexpectedly got better, I hadn't really followed the situation since February... My condolences.

Thank you Nick, I shall miss you 🙏🏻
So sorry to hear this news…. He made a huge impact in a short time… bless him on his journey 💔❤️
My interactions with Nick while collaborating on some videos for this channel were all pleasant. I really hoped he would pull through and feel extremely saddened for his family and other friends to have lost him. I hope that his channels can survive in some capacity to keep his legacy going.
I am brand new to the community. I saw a video of his maybe an hour and a half ago. As he spoke I got a strong feeling of trust. Then to find this video? Man. As we speak there are tears rolling down my face. But I will not be selfish. He has made his transition. Maybe I will get my younger brother to go check on him. Respect!🙏
Rest In Peace, thank you for your work.
I can't stand up this news. I can't stand up this sadness. I can't believe it.
Terrible news. My deepest sympathies to his family and friends. I loved watching Nick and you could really feel his love and passion for history.
He will be truly missed.

It's a horrible news, I'm so sorry for everyone close to him and fans alike. Nick and his tremendous work will be sorely missed. Thank you for letting us know and may he rest in peace
So utterly tragic. He was so young, and had so much going for him, and his dreams were all coming true.. My heart aches for his family.
May he rest in peace.
Thank you, this was a wonderful channel to me because I share Nick's love of the medieval period. Thank you for your kind words, and engaging story.

As a history lover born in 1993, also having a regular job, I found myself identifying with Nick in a lot of ways. Tears roll down my face as I type this because I really loved this channel. WOW! I am devastated! Nick was an outstanding CZcams host, a fabulous (amateur) historian, and a great human being...
Speechlessly, I hope his essence is in peace, out there in the cosmos!
I do not know the reason Nick was able to interest me in his subject matter and his interviews. But I did enjoy them. I am sorry to hear that he has passed. He is missed. My prayers are for the babies and his wife. And I know there is always a good place for people like Nick.

Very, very sad. He was SO young and I appreciated his content! 🙏
R.I.P. Nick...
This channel has inspired me to have a deep interest in ancient history and it makes me deeply sad to hear of nicks passing
I'm grief stricken. LOVE to his family and friends. His intellect reached out beyond the videos.
RIP Nick, and my best to you and especially his family....
I hope everyone he collaborated with and gave exposure to over the years on this channel give him the kudos he deserves. RIP, Nick.
Nick and his dedication to educate people about history whilst maintaining the most balanced approach truly was unique. This is what I loved about him and this channel, something that's rare from what I can find. He was only a few years older than me, which is truly an eye opener; and health is wealth regardless of how old you are. I hope someone continues with what he had planned when things settle down, but for now I hope his family find the strength to get through. There's definitely other plans for him beyond us, that I believe. Rest well Nick.
Oh God no. Rest in peace. Condolences from Chile.
My condolences the Barksdale Family. I cannot even begin to comprehend their pain and grief right now.
Thankyou for letting his audience know.
It says a lot that he built such a great channel and a community that cared about him, all so young. 🙏
I hope all of the people who have written such wonderful things are the people who have donated to Mr. Barksdale’s “go fund me” page. I did, even though I’ve only watched a handful of videos on this channel, which I thoroughly enjoyed or would not have subscribed. I can empathize at losing a dear relative so young, and I still can’t imagine what his wife is going through. All I can do is give money, and I’ve done that....I hope everyone who reads this will, too! God’s blessings to all.
Rest in peace, Nick. You were taken from the world too soon. Thank you for entertaining and sharing your knowledge with us.
RIP Nick.
How sad. My condolences to his family, and those who knew him.
Rest in Peace. He was such a blessing.
Amazing stories of your European vacation.
- I spent 2 years in Sardegna 1996-7. In the US navy
I'm so sorry to hear of Nick's passing. Sending love and prayers for comfort and healing to his family and friends. 💕💗💕💗💕💗
He taught me. Thank you . RIP
I’m shocked and profoundly saddened to learn of Nick’s untimely passing. From the perspective of an archaeologist and historian, his work on this channel was nothing short of spectacular. I feel very privileged to have discovered SA&MA a little over two years ago: I learned a great deal from Nick and always looked forward to his excellent videos. SA&MA was a delightful companion and a welcome source of solace through the difficulties of the pandemic; for that, I will always be grateful to Nick. From Greece, I extend my sincere and deepest condolences to the Barksdale Family. Even to those of us who knew him only through this superb channel, Nick Barksdale will ever be in our hearts - he will be sorely missed by many. Requiescat In Pace.
"Bringing you the subjects we all love..." Indeed, Nick, you did - well done; an all-too-brief life but extremely well-lived. His impact will live on, and this channel is his legacy.
Nick Barksdale had a tremendous positive impact on my life with his videos, his interviews with experts, and his joyous enthusiasm for history. I'm so sorry to hear this news, and my deepest condolences go to his family and friends. I will never forget him or cease being grateful for his dedication to history and humanity.
Rest in peace Nick. What a beautiful passionate tribute this is. An awesome memorial. Thank you.

I am thankful for all he gave us.
The content the channel provided was , in fact, my favorite online go-to. All the hard work that has been to date, had provided a great archive of history insights. It has been and will continue to be missed. Prayers for the family.
So sad. I’m so sorry for all of you, his family and friends. Bless you all in your time of mourning. He will now know all of the answers to all of his questions.
I followed this channel because of my love of history and Nick fed that thirst. We will miss Nick tremendously! RIP Nick Barksdale!
