Love how this guy. Show people real rifs. Thank you.
Genius. Simply put......You're a Genius, Mr. Tubbs!
My favourite guitar player & teacher. And like he just shows you. How cool is that.
Your way of explaining the "shapes" is very helpful, thank you for playing it slow. The slower the better. It really makes a huge difference!
The King of the hippest licks - Shawn Tubbs!
You're very kind Robert. I'm just good at borrowing ideas...well every once in a while.
I love an honest unedited guitar lesson. Leave the mistakes in there. It makes the musical journey a more shared experience.
Thanks so much for watching!!
This guy is one of my favorite guitar player .... pure talent.
Thanks so much!!
Wow!! Thanks man!! Reminds me of a Jimmy Herring
Shawn I am really enjoying your lessons and the human side you bring to them that no one is perfect and it shows we all can play the riff and that you do not have to be a guitar god to do it. Your the real deal. Please continue making these types of videos!!!
I’m arriving to the gig a little late, but glad I found your channel. Appreciate your user friendly riffs that are exactly what I need to progress from the shapes Ive been using for too long. Rock on!
love these types of vids.
Thanks for doing these videos Shawn. Great stuff. 🎸
Great lick love your playing also love your humor in these videos keep it up
Shawn Tubbs should seriously put out a guitar method of his own unique perspective of playing music.
Because what he has to offer the world is worth investing in.
Plus all of his videos deserve far more recognition.
He's the kind of person, that even if you put aside all his musical knowledge and talent, I'd still root for his success.
I can tell he's just a down to earth, good person overall.
You're very kind, thanks so much!
Sounds great thanks for sharing in detail !
Another great lick from another planet! Thanks Commander!
Literally my favorite guy to watch play guitar on the interweb. I'm so glad that your subscriber numbers are growing, people need to hear you. Your viewers have been clamoring for you to make instructional videos like this for a long time, and now that you have a bunch of them out, it was definitely worth the wait! You sir, do not disappoint.... Accept yourself, you definitely disappoint yourself. Haha. The guy that rips a scale, then gives himself the thumbs down mid solo. In all seriousness, thanks for inspiring me every time I see you play!
Thanks so much, Glen!!!
This is the kind of content I come here for! I need these chops in my playing. Awesome Shawn.
Thanks Shawn that’s axe magic👐 appreciate learning anything you got! It’s like a magician show his secreta😮
Great video, great lesson, great playing, great feeling...as always Shawn
WOW I checked out the lesson course. I love the format and the presentation. Very easy to work with. I am going to get this tonight then woodshed on this inspiration. Blessings to you Shawn T and have a good weekend!
Sounds great Shawn! That lick/riff/line/chromatic thingy. Is great. Thanks for posting!
Maan what awesome extensions here!! And yes, Lukather is sooo good
Love this Dude! So good!
Thanksvery much!
Woah Luk at the Ryman fantastic!!! Great lines and playing as always buddy! you just plain killa!
Tubbs! Design some t shirt merch! I want a speed bump shirt and and one of the faces you make when you make fun of your self. You’re so freaking awesome and I love that you don’t take yourself seriously. Just play and sound good. I’m trying to channel that approach into my playing.
You seems a really happy person lately, great playing and sense of serious and humor hehe
Great video! I learned a lot in a short time.
Brilliant video!!! .. I'm so glad that I'm not the only one who can't play their own riffs! :-)
Awesome thanks !!!
Epic! Just learnt fist lick 👌👌 Love the 3rd variation as well. A lot of fun to play
Funky stuff bro, love it!
So good.
That last shred lick 😱🔥🔥🔥!! The camera can’t even keep up with that picking speed 😉
Amazing content btw!
Love that lesson. Not sure,if I can adapt this, but it's a pleasure to watch and listen to your stuff. And yes - Luke is killer guitar player. :)
I saw Toto a year or so ago and got to hang with Luke for a little while. What a nice, cool guy. They were astounding. No clams all night by anyone. That guy played on and wrote so many great songs. Nice to see the respect for him and the band. It bums me out when I see people bag on him or the group. Oh, and your playing is ridiculously inspiring. Thank you for the content!
Hahaha!!! Breath god damn it! Shawn hard to breathe when YOU are playing those swingin outside inside tasty licks!
Excellent stuff again. Probably take me months to get my head around this lol
Awesome!!
love it
Great lick I'm avin it ;)
Meraviglioso!!
Killer!
Shawn had to one up his lick game today, all because of Steve Lukather.
What the heck chance do we have of playing it if you can't!!!! Anywhooooooo as always, thanks for the great lesson!
Your one of my favorite guitar players man do you have an album out?
Thanks so much, Trey. I just have one album on Band Camp called "Demolition". shawntubbs.bandcamp.com/album/demolition-a-collection-of-short-guitar-jams
Very cool lick!! I will plagiarize that asap!!
Luke is the man! Funny as hell too.
sweet riffs! GM7 arp
This is what I need! Great information sir! What are you using as a humbucker for your leads, pedals, amp and reverb and delay?
Thanks! That humbucker is a Suhr SSV. I didn't use any pedals this time. All of the tones were from the 3 channels of a Friedman BE-100 Deluxe head. I used a plugin for Delay.
Very nice playing Mr Tubbs! Will be definitely attempting to use you're methods to break my 2 finger pentatonic mold and eek out me 3 fingers trying to bake in how to play outside. Don't know the protocol on asking questions, somewhere better for ? or is this da place? Don't see many replies on comments but there be a few. Like the beat in you're backing track on this vid, what drum program are you using and are you playing bass....great bass playing! See the iPad lurking in the corner with volume sliders and wondering which looper program that is and if you have any recommendations for best and easiest way of creating backing tracks.
Thanks!! The backing track was done by me. I played bass and used a program called EZ drummer 2. The Ipad was actually the control interface for my UA audio OX top box. Thanks so much for watching!
Shawn, so helpful to hear some of your process- syncopated, chromatic runs, but so much more. It's just so tastefully executed and phrased. I might take inspiration from your approach... I'm giving myself permission. Thank you.
3 questions- your style seems just as elegant as your playing. If I may, wear did you get those pants & glasses, and, just curious- what beard trimmer do you use? I'm looking for something that gives as clean of a look. Cheers from Duluth, MN!
Thanks very much! You're very kind.
The Glasses are from Warby Parker and I buy most of my clothes from second hand stores.
MY GOD!!!!! Is this even legal?! ESPECTACULAR PHRASING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That stretched 'shape' is amazing! Thanks Shawn
Shawn, Lukather can't carry your musical jock strap. He hasn't ever caught my ear w his playing, but I watch all your vids & come away with something that I can use or that inspires me. C'mon his greatest licks were in Toto's Africa! ;)
Thanks so much, I realize not everyone is going to be into Steve's playing but I learned a lot from him. It's to each his own for sure and I truly appreciate the very kind words!! Thanks for watching my vids!!
Curious how your ox box is set up and do you have any suggestions for the mini dirty Shirley and the ox?
I pretty much always use the "thick" 4x12 cab with a Royer 121 and SM 57 mic combo.
@@ShawnTubbs Thank you for responding man I really appreciate that. Haven't had much luck with messaging people on CZcams, but I figure people are just busy but I watch your channel all the time. I just purchased both albums from you, the jam tracks and the real tracks. I am loving it. You are a dying breed of guitar player. I try really hard to do all my videos with minimal cutting and editing. It's a real shame, there are a lot of you tube guitar players using editing to cheat the audience a little too much and its nice to see someone who really cares about the feel and performance, its immediately evident when you see a player of your caliber, and man I just wish you all the success in the world, you deserve it brother! And I am so thankful for your content. If I am ever frustrated or stuck in a rut I just go to your channel, so bottom line thank you!! Also I am curious, do you do lessons online? I just recently started working really hard on my CZcams channel and I know I have a long way to go but it would be so helpful to take some lessons and learn about your process and get some playing tips as well! Any constructive criticism would be very helpful. But thank you so much for taking the time out to get back to me!! Hope you and your family are staying safe, Have a wonderful week!!!

oh man, did you go to Toto at the Ryman? Britt was there.....I almost pulled the trigger
Yeah man! It was KILLER!!
Try this riff, you won't be able to play it, but give it a try :p Just listening made me a better player
😄🙌🏻❤️
Cool lick, Shawn! What drum software are you using? Is it SD3?
Also, you're getting awesome tones from the OX. Have you tried the Boss WAZA Tube Expander, and if so, which do you prefer? Thanks!
Thanks Darin! I'm still using EZ2. I have yet to try the Boss WAZA Tube Expander, but I'm pretty sold on my UA OX box. It sounds great!
@@ShawnTubbs Cool beans, Shawn. I've only just purchased SD3 and I must admit there's a lot to it and I'm still hiking up the learning curve. EZD2 is awesome and I love it.
I'm still trying to choose between the OX Box and the Boss WAZA. I like the fact that the Waza lets you use custom IRs but I'm not crazy about the fact that it seems to limit you to one and its software only gives you one mic to play with, whereas the OX gives you two mics as well as room mics.I also dig the OX's UI and tablet friendly approach, whereas the Boss software currently requires a computer and doesn't have nearly as sweet a UI.
In terms of live *and* studio use, do you find the OX handles both to your liking? If you find yourself in a live situation in which you need to attenuate your amp's volume, does the OX give you the sound through your amp that you want and at the same time allow you to feed the FOH the OX's pristine processed signal?
Thanks so much for taking the time to answer! You the man!
Hi Shawn. Merry Christmas. Where can I trade my Money for your backing tracks? Thank you sir
Hi Shawn, a little off topic - but what drum software do you use? Do you program your own tracks? I'd love to hear more about that. Thank you. Fantastic chops in this video - I've come back to this one quite a bit.
I use EZ drummer 2 and program the tracks my self. It's really easy to use and the sounds are killer!
@@ShawnTubbs Awesome! What DAW do you use? Also, are you using a midi keyboard or just the piano roll by hand.
@@craigingrammusic With EZ Drummer it's all drag and drop. Every once in a great while I'll input via the piano roll.
@@craigingrammusic Oh and I use Pro Tools.
Just wondering, if the key of the song was in A dom7 would the riff still work? Or even just the end part? Thanks as always!
If the key root is A7 the riff would work over the root chord. If you wanted to do the same riff over the 4 chord D7, you would have to think Amin7.
@@ShawnTubbs Ah that's amazing. Thanks Shawn!!
Is your Strat a Classic Pro or Classic Antique?
That one is a classic antique.
With all due respect
Kid is a baby goat
In Jerome "Chef" McElroy voice:
"Hello there children"
Luke, one of those players that simultaneous makes you want to play more and quit ;) Meantime, back to working on this lick...
I think during the lockdown we are only supposed to inhale. Exhaling is prohibited.
My breath always stops when I watch you playing.
Dude, you’re so much better than Lukather
Hey now. They're both pretty great.
Well, you're very kind but Steve Lukather would bury me alive if I ever tried to run with him!
I can do that. Oh wait... no I can't. The way you feel when you watch Lukather is how we all feel when we watch you!
Exactly!
Breathing helps your respiratory system as well. lol
Yeah Baby.
Been missin' ya lately. I hope it's because you're busy with other gigs.
Here's guitar theory for ya. Guitar is a fact. How to play it is theoretical. :-)
Steve Lukather? Wait till you go see Steve Vai play live!
@9:13 I watched and then threw up lol
Don’t try this at home.
🤣🤣😂😂
