I dare say that Shawn is very well-known, but I have literally just discovered him in the last couple of days. Surely this guy is one of the greatest electric guitarists ever isn’t he? I’m awestruck by his abilities.
You're very kind, thanks so much!
Everyone needs to go buy Shawns lesson pack it is amazing!
Thanks, Robert!! Ya NERD!!
I love how Shawn makes it sound like he’s screwing up and then proceeds to play the killers blues licks.
Thank you, thank you, thank you!
You're very kind. Thanks so much for watching.
LOL! You’re hilarious brother - you made me laugh about forgetting the riff and that made me forget about using my guitar as a coffee table after hearing you play! Thx so much for sharing your gift Shawn - you’re amazing - Lord bless you
Ok, that guitar is awesome! I know I’m not the only one who hits the “like” button before I even watch the video. I’m a fan of “scalish thingies”.
And that's how you get fired from the blues session 😂😂😂 I'm your fan!
These outside riff tutorials are absolute gold! Can't get enough of'em. They lend themselves to quick replay numbers, i'm sure!
I was just jammin' and I thought..
"What song would be a good one for
that dude to put that "color" on?"
Sultans of Swing.
A buttery Strat clean tone with some of that
shine & a smoky'groove..
Good stuff dude!
Great tips. Loads of insights. Keep 'em coming.
"Me no know. Me no study" LOL. Studied or not you are a professional and I can see why. I really enjoy your tips and playing. I don't subscribe to many channels but yours I do.
Great phrase🙌🙌🙌 thanks Shawn
Cracken me up! i love that Tuttle. thanks for the lesson
Awesome as usual Shawn, great riff! Thanks so much for what you do brother~
You lighten up my day with these exercises, thank you Shawn ! Want more of that stuff !!!
Man I love your playing! I’ve found your videos really helpful and interesting as I’ve felt stuck in the boxes for a bit now.
Another good one Shawn. You speak my lingo. I always enjoy the humor. Keep em' coming!
More dude! Please. All excellent stuff.
This is really fun to watch and your playing & tone is superbe. Thank you for your wonderful videos and light-hearted approach
Have got to learn that riff sounds amazing. Really diggin that Tuttle, thinking I'm gonna have to check one out.
My new favorite guitar player! ❤️
you are the man sean!
Loving all these riffs...never been much of an "outside" player but these riff lessons you've been doing really have resonated with me. Even worked one in this week at a gig ;)
Awesome lick bro! Thank you much 🎸🎸👍
Great tone! great tips! 110℉ 😎
There is my playing before Shawn, and my playing after Shawn. Thank you so much. The SoundSlice is Unsane!!!!!!!
Always thank you
Please make more video like this
Sounds great as always. Love the interval choices
Request to do licks 8:57 - 9:00 and 9:10 - 9:13 (sounds like a lick in desert drift!) sometime too? :-D
So, so cool! You are a seemingly endless font of out-of-the-box riffs and soloing ideas that tickle my eardrums in such a pleasing way. Once again I find myself wishing I could click twice on the Thumbs Up.
Hahahahahahah i connected so hard with “me no-know, me no study” you are my spirit animal! Great lick man! I too think shapes over scales, nice to have some reassurance im not alone
You're one of the best Shawn! This riff reminded me of something Josh Smith may do. Made me lol too!
Love u soo entertainmenting and you make me better thank you sir
I’m really liking the less serious tone you are going for now . Keep this up , we like seeing more of the “real” Shawn tubbs. Also I’ve always really loved your playing since the vineyard days. I still listen to all your old solos like the “shine upon us” solo . Still amazing
dude you're awesome. these vids are great and your tone is fabulous
Thanks so much Andy!!! Hope you're doing well!!
Thanks Shawn, thats a nice way to play a II V I, I'm gonna use this one in my own way.
I feel like you’re now my guitar sensei...”show me: outside the box” 👍✌️❤️🎶
ps- that tele though! 😍
Glad I saved this notification in my backlog!
The MOST refreshing lessons on the internet. Your lessons are always so unique and inspiring Shawn. Are you from another planet?
Thanks!! I don't know about another planet but...Nashville is kinda weird... Thanks so much for watching!!
You’re the guitarist I’m listening to right now cuz you mirror my what I’d like to sound like is I could. Very funny too.
Awe me an crack me up too. I’m 62 have stage4 lung cancer, and don’t want to be weird, but you’re one of the guys I’ll be listening to
at the end, along 20 other musicians like Johnny Winter (one of the first in 68) Steve Morse, etc, ( All the greats . just started listening to josh smith too. 2nd generation players... all great guitarists carrying the torch, lighting the way for those after you.
Thanks Shawn. All your vids make me laugh and put my Ax down at the same time.
Humble and funny. They tell me 2 months but that was 2!years ago. Music keeps me going bro.
Thanks
That’s a pure guitar talent
I’ve been trying to figure out how to get fired for quite some time. I think I’ve got it. Thanks man.
estamos pretando atencion...jefe..muchas gracias
It's like a deluxe version of the call/response melody from Close Encounters of the Third Kind :P Killing it Shawn!
digging it
Ace player and funniest guitar tutor on the Tube-"That's how you get fired from a blues session".
Also, if you start it off the b3 of chord (E7) it works killer too! Love it!
I smell Jimmy Herring! love these vids!!! yer a tank of a player!!!
Austin Heimark If I ever find a Genie in a bottle I’m still trying to decide whether to wish for Jimmy Herring’s or Shawn Tubbs’ abilities (assuming of course that I can’t have both, you know how those Genies are!).
@@stevesheroan4131 hahah yes!!
Damn that’s good.
Thank u
Nice tone.
Maaaan hahaha I love you... how on earth you hid this Shawn in all your pre-2019 videos where you were all formality and seriousness? :-D haha very natural... Nice! (y)
Very cool stuff and I noticed that when you're improvising you also use that sort of dissonant tonality going into the 5 court as well thanks for sharing it's one thing to learn the lick it's another thing to have the instinct to be able to throw more creative tonality in there on the fly when improvising... hence my dilemma...lol
Love it dude! Also your hat says S C A D but it should say N E R D! #boomroasted
Shawn Tubbs never frets over speed bumps.
Hahahah.. Daddy Shawn! 0:38 most of us have been there on that moment, dad! 😂
Great as always, Shawn!....hey, do us a favor. Get a hold of Sweetwater Music, and tell them you'd like to do a clinic at next year's "Sweetwater Gear Fest". THAT would be awesome!!
Wow, subscribed after 2 seconds.
Thanks so much for subscribing!!
@@ShawnTubbs You're very welcome
I really liked the lick at 0:08 and I thought that was going to be the lick haha I think I'll steal that spaghetti!
Thanks for taking the time to make these great videos!
steveincollins what is the difference between lick and riff?
@@gitaaa7740 Gitaa A hmm I don't know if there really is a difference? But I usually say riff for something like the main part of a song (think crazy train or smoke on the water or something like that) and a lick to me is more of a short fragment that can be used in a variety of situations
steveincollins i agree with that. That’s how I always thought of it.
@@gitaaa7740 It's just semantics. They're the same.
Killer Tele!
I get you and the Nielson guy mixed up.
Colorful statement on the guitar there.
Impressive.
I think you might be too good.
I'm a full time drummer now and you
gave me the vibe of being in the arena
on the drums of Carmine Appice.
Just too f'n good.
HAHAHA!!! Love it Shawn. I always love spaghetti!
Seriously..just WOW..
You have good fingers
:D
Ummmm...this is great...now if my old fingers will climb out of the box! But dadgum if I’m not gonna hammer away at this until I get new calluses! Thanks for sharing...
That's a great Line!! I love your tele sound. Great feel.Plenty of Soulful Punch. I love to hear the guitar played the right way. Melodic,Intens, and with a lot of Heart. A lot of guitar players today play like their tip toeing through the tulips. So what your showing is the heart and soul of the way music should be played. Keep up the great work. By the way. What Tele is that? Those Pickups sound "HOT". Also, what distortion and delay are you using? Thanks.
Thanks so much! That is a Tuttle Classic and the pickups are also Tuttle.
Haha...you no study...but you moe-foe ash-rippin finger-lickin guitar-slayer!! Love the yer sense of humor too. Great video.
Great playing, great licks. Is that an OD pedal? Nice and chewey. Love the tone.
Thanks very much! Yes that's my Rockett Pedals Majestic OD.
whats you're amp/pedal setup in this video? sounds incredible. awesome content per usual!
Thanks so much Ryan! I'm using my REVV D20 direct to DAW with a Rockett Pedals Majestic OD. The delay you hear is a Pro Tools plugin.
Don't think that tele style guitar is an Eastman Guitars T64 as it says in the description. Great video as always.
Yeah, I totally forgot to change that to a Tuttle. I fixed it. Thanks, Eric!
Hey shawn! Just wondering if you ever hear the lick in your head before actually executing it. Do you exactly know if it sounds good right off the bat?
Your licks are hot and fresh. And i just wanted to know how you come up with thoseeee.
I have an idea of the tonality of the lick before I play it but that's about it. All bets are off after that!!
Could someone explain exactly what scale Shawn plays to create tension? melodic minor than which key? Thank you
Mmmmm ear candy!
I'm well acquainted with scale-ish thingys.
Mmm...mmm..... that spaghettis is some mighty fine tastin' pasta right there.
How about a quick note on how you're getting that great tone?
Thanks! I'm using my Revv D20 direct into my Apogee interface via the XLR out. The cab model is a 4x12 and the mics are a Royer 121 and SM57 model. The slapback delay you're hearing is in ProTools. I used my Rockett Pedals Majestic OD into the front of the D20. The D20 was set pretty clean.
👨🏫👍
Which drive pedal are you using on this?
Rockett Pedals Majestic.
Wait... there are lesson packs?
I did a lesson pack with Sound Slice based on my Demolition Record. www.soundslice.com/store/demolition-guided-tour/
Shawn what is the difference between a lick and a riff?
One of them gets to the center of a tootsie pop? ;) Thanks for watching!!!
tasty
🤣 intro space out ! Gotta love the musicians in our lives.
Never can play this cause my guitar has block inlays ......but thank you
Hahahaha!!! Just get out a sharpie and draw little dots in the blocks!
actually the first pile of spaghetti has an interesting garble at about 0:11 - i think i'll try to untangle that first
all the stuff you throw in for funzies is a master class in itself 9:10
Nice. 'gotta go try that...... Yup,...nope!
I would gladly get fired if I could play like that!
Listen to Robben Ford much? ;-)
Who's Robben Ford??? ;)
@@ShawnTubbs Be careful during "Rush Hour" It all could be a "Revelation" especially if you "Talk To Your Daughter"....
@@lylelong9530 I could end up "Born Under Bad Sign" if I don't "Help the Poor".
Shawn Tubbs “You Cut Me To The Bone” with your “Worried Life Blues”..... 🤘great lesson!
🤣🤣🤣🤣Spaghetti,,,no riff
