Bowie in his ziggy stardust days, a legendary talent.

The first incarnation of David Bowie that I knew. He was a chameleon who changed his appearance and musical style so many times but still maintained his brilliance.

David didn't die, he returned to his home planet.
Saw him live in 81 I think. Awesome beyond expectations. It was an outdoor gig and the toilets were THE cleanest, classiest I have ever seen. Pure class all the way.

A coroner in the UK says so, actually liver cancer is what killed him.

@@JB-yb4wn I know what killed him. I don't think he really went to another planet, obviously. I am not a moron believe it or not. Did you have a humourectomy? Aw so sorry.

The song is from 69 but this video is from 72. We were all obsessed with the Moon landing & outer space. I used to turn the speakers over to one side so you would hear the countdown upfront. It’s an incredible way to listen to it, with the background up front.

A Canadian astronaut (I can't remember his name) sang this on the ISS while floating. It's pretty cool.

Beatles vibey...I like it. He and John Lennon did 'Fame' together. (Bowie also wrote a VERY COOL tribute song about a quirky low budget NJ show that Lennon was a big fan of, and turned Bowie onto. . The song is called 'Slip Away' about The Uncle Floyd Show.)

His spirit is leaving his body. He's mind (ground control) talking to his conscience (spirt) as he dies and looses contact.

David Bowie wrote this after watching the epic movie '2001: A Space Odyssey'. Nothing to do with dying. What an imagination you have! Maybe You should be writing lyrics!!

Weird sounds is mellotron played by Rick Wackeman from group Yes. Melletron was analog synthesizer. This is Beatles era.

Yes!!! I also get a Beatles vibe from this song. I think it's the harmonies, and the different movements. Also the storytelling.

Bowie's work was great and not just his "novelty song" period either. He has tons of great songs all across his career. I could list them, but others have already likely done so. My favorites include "TVC-15", "China Girl" and "Suffragette City".
Another great psychedelic work appeared in the unusual year of 1985-- the Dukes of Stratosphear's "25 O'Clock". Unusual because everyone else thought the psychedelic genre was done with by 1969 (cf. this Bowie song). A great year for music and yet this song didn't get played much on the radio.
