Scaling, moderation, 50 study score, SACs, ATAR aggregate, ranking - what do all these mean and how do they come together? I help you see the bigger picture by digging into the inner-workings of the VCE-system. After this video, you should be knowledgeable in how your study scores and ATAR are determined! Remember, at the end of the day you can spend as much time as you want to calculate your ATAR, or comparing yourself to others but I request you to ask yourself - do these actions actually help me improve? The key is studying smart, and focusing on yourself.

Very helpful. I'm a year 10 in Victoria. We always hear these terms but teachers expect we understand them, and by all means, we do... but not very well. This has improved my understanding greatly 🤗

Hey Lisa could you talk more about how your class rank actually works and affects your ATAR. You sort of glossed over it and I heard it can affect your SAC marks.
Thx for explaining how the ATAR works. Thx so much
This was such a big weight off my shoulders, really helpful! thank you so much
This helps so much... Thank You!!!
turning yr10 next year。。。
can feelmthe pressure already
lmaoo same
In year 10 haha not bad methods is a pain
I'm in year 8 right now this video and made me understand the whole Atar thing thank you so much Lisa
I'm in year 10 rn... my advice to you is watch a lot of these study tip and guide videos this year when you still have time to - youll need it
think about vce early
Thank you so much this video was so helpful ❤️❤️
I am in Yr 12 in QLD and starting ATAR at the moment, this video was very helpful for my understanding of the weighting, even though the systems are slightly different. Thank You!!!
Welcome to the ATAR Marionette! (:
starting ATAR?!
as someone in year 11, in Queensland next year, this is so so so helpful because absolutey know one knows what is going on and if there's weighting or anything! Thank you so much, eveythings helping so much haha. I'll be sure to watch all your videos haha.

I'm in year 10 now, but I'm doing 1&2 spanish right now early so this was really helpful thanks!
Glad it was helpful!
I’m in year 8 but I’m watching this video in case I do end up using it to help me in VCE, thankyouu
Yikes! I’m from America and I randomly heard about this stuff. Our equivalent in high school are the ACT/SAT scores, but they’re not as complex lol.
You're really lucky
This is really helpful, thank you. Does how the ATAR is calculated apply to all states/territories? I'm in SA and everything seems to vary just a little bit differently from state to state
Thanks a lot, only in year 8
u don’t need to worry at all yet but it’s good to have this knowledge
Same
Hey so im an undult going back into college/studying in QLD. ( kinda know how this work, new to this) My question is, is it possible to start ATAR in QLD rather than wait 2020.??? Because ill be moving to NSW at the end of 2019 and figured might aswell study early here in QLD
Well, when I check the VCE past paper, the full score is 40. How can u get 45?? I'm so confused in that part
I am in year seven...so this is important.
You are beautiful. Best explanation, thank you
Is this the same in nsw or is it Victoria exclusive?
Hey, would you mind making a seperate video about ‘after darkness’?
Already uploaded!
Hi teacher I need help how to answer quotes question because I'm doing EAL year 12 so if you can help me and thank you
Can you explain this with the WA ATAR system because it is different
What happens if I can only do 5 vce subjects instead of 6 because of my school? Does this negatively affect my score? Thanks.
Would this be the same with HSC?
Does a cert iii scale down significantly
what if you are an international student and you have started year 11? how are they going to score me?
Hey so I’m struggling with my SACs at the moment and I’m not quite sure what that means towards my study score. Could you explain the significance of 3/4 SACs?
Mary Le Dow focus on exams u will take top scorers scores if u do really well meaning your sac grades will go up to ur grade for the exam or close to the grade, I just finished methods exam today 🙀
sorry to ask but if my lowest scored subject is English, does it go into the bottom 2 and are external exams, the hsc exams, and internal exams, like the trials, etc.
Thanks
English is always your top subject as its the only compulsory subject
this video was great in terms of clearing up everything i've known about vce so far, but i do have a few questions:
1. i've heard that i am able to choose six subjects to study for vce in year 11, but some of my peers have said i apparently have to narrow it down to five subjects in year 12?
2. for my atar, will i get to decide which four subjects will placed in the top four and which two i can leave as the 10% subjects. or will i have to purposely score lower in the two subjects i didn't want to include in the top four, it would also help to know if there any tips to achieving high scores across all six subjects while still maintaining the positions of the top four subjects you intended to have for your atar
thanks! :)
also are certain subjects, like english already set as a mandatory/top 4 subject while others like accounting, music performance etc. set as an additional subject (as in the %10 increment subjects)? sorry if i'm not making sense
Whats the highest score you can get for an ATAR subject?
55. Granted you do specialist/language subject and don't drop a single mark on sacs and the exam.
I have chosen a combination of 5 subjects of the Humanities stream. My year 11 score is 95%. Will I still have the chances of scoring ATAR above 95 if I've 5 subjects?
I am class 12 Indian Student. Will the same method apply??
OMG MLC REPRESENT
What are the chances of me pulling a 35 for chemistry?
Thank you for explaining the Atar system. I was just wondering if you do more than 6 subjects and let's say ur 6th and the 7th highest scoring subject is both 35 or something, which one would actually be counted or do both get counted towards your atar?
Bangyan Jin whichever on is better after scaling. So if u have biology and business as 6th and 7th and they both have a score of 35, biology would be your 6th subject because it scales up by 1 whereas business scales down by approximately 2.
What happens if you’re in year 11 and doing a 3/4, does that get scaled up?
You're compared with other people doing 3/4s (so majority of the students will be in the year above you). I can't answer whether you get scaled up or down because it's dependent on the cohort.
so if I did badly in the GAT, will my SAC results be adjusted lower?
your GAT can only be used to increase your score, not lower them, at least that's what I remember
I've been failing my sacs but I think I will do well in exams because I have all my notes for everything and im good and remembering anything tips?
Hi there, thanks for your comment! One good approach is to treat SACs like a practice run for your exam to help you get better and better throughout the year. Here's some videos that you might find useful: czcams.com/video/_Gg9TfKP65U/video.html (how SAC scaling works), czcams.com/video/3Fz33jNQMTA/video.html (what to do when you fail a test). Hope this helps! :)
I'm a bit confused, I get most of it. But I have heard about year 10 VCE, and I have heard you need to get atleast B+ for every class all throughout year 9. Is this the case everywhere?
I think you're talking about doing a VCE subject in year 10. Im a year 10 student in Victoria and im doing Unit 1 + 2 Biology. I got a few Cs and mostly Bs in Year 9 but I still got in and now im getting As in Bio. I think it depends on your school.
They did say i needed at least a b+ or an A but i still got in
@@irisw6306 ok thankyou
lmfao years 7-10 for me were shocking, I had terrible scores. I did 1/2 of bio during year 10, and finished it off this year (year 11) - but the 1/2 scores didn't matter anyway.
thank you Lisa, it is really helpful. i want to ask a one thing about choosing subject. i am in y11 right now, i hear someone told me that specialist math can scale so much, like if i get 30 raw score then i can get 40 score after the scaling. so that is the most important reason why i choose it. but actully, i am not that type of person who is good at math. i just want to achieve high atar for vce. do you think should i choose it or change to another subject, like futher math...
Monica wang how are you going now? At my school, all of the Specialist students complain about it being very difficult, and the average grade is
thank you so much~
What are the questions like on the GAT?
Dam has 9 trillion apples and only eats 16,000,048 of them, what is the circumference of Jupiter?
@@ramicyt glad someone replied, i can finally go back to school and sit it!
@@morematcha Good luck, I guess we doing this together
What if I do 5 subjects only? Then I won’t have the extra 10% ?
nicharee srichan yes but hopefully having only five subjects you have more time to focus on them and can get higher scores on them compensating for the missing 10%
I dont get it
Im in year 12 next year 🫡 wish me luck
Hello! I’m in Year 11 and I’m a student who just migrated in Australia I missed the half semester already and I just want to ask how to keep up with VCE if u need 16 units??
cow key you can do four subjects in year 12 and still get your ATAR score
As a student who loves art and performance subjects I hate scaling!
I’m in year 11 and I’m struggling
My best advice here is to measure your progress, don't focus on how bad you are❤
Lisa rewatch if you don’t understand. Me: that has already done the English yr12 exam Hmm okay then 😅
is this the same as WACE?
Hi there, thanks for your comment! The ATAR information applies to WACE, however SACs and scaling are a bit different. The WACE website will have info that's specific to WA students! :)
@@vcestudyguidesonline perfect, thankyou!
Why am i watching in grade 6?
Cause you're a keen bean
@@vcestudyguidesonline , Yes another term to use is - Geek
You said not to worry about other students. Well, let’s say a student is dreaming of becoming a doctor! They won’t have to worry about other students too? Won’t their score be affected by others? Do they have to join one of the highest ranked schools? Aren’t these schools too expensive? Even if there are a couple of schools which are public, won’t the residences close by be impossible to get or extremely expensive!
Vce Na pagar nu su
Vce ne pagar aapo
lets see how ill do in 2 years time
i am doing only 5 subjects..is there any prblm for ATAR
Happy Life i don’t believe so? from my knowledge that you will just miss out on an additional score
Your 5th and 6th subjects just add to your Atar by 10% increments, so you can basically do high school with 4 subjects.
Does English have to be in your top 4?
Yes, sadly It’s compulsory
You just have to get a scaled score of above 50% to pass. It does not need to be in your top 4
Idk why I’m watching this in grade 3 even though I’m never gonna remember this in like almost 10 years (btw I’m using my moms acc)
Why do arts get scaled down? They aren’t easy…
They’re not very competitive
u Chinese, settled in australia - picked up oz'y accent right ? u trying well.
I'm a data scientist and you don't actually explain anything. You leave the question unanswered. No detail. It's just a ??? as before the video. Thanks not.
Very irritating voice, please think about that...
