  • Conflict is the essence of drama however, establishing conflicts can be a daunting task without a solid understanding and foundation of the values of the characters.
    Asghar Farhadi's "A Separation" is a perfect example not only of the importance of clearly establishing your characters' beliefs and values but also how to derive conflict from them.

    Thanks for your analysis of this great film. I'll be having frinds over this weekend to watch it.
    Farhadi's films remind me a lot of Bergman - both of them have a strong background in the theater, have minimal sets and action, but have a lot of intensity lurking beneath the surface.
