  • Here are a bunch of prophecies that Jesus fulfilled. Mathematical analyses of the statistical probabilities of any man fulfilling these by chance reveal that Jesus is legit.
This is part 10 in the lengthy series on Evidence for the Bible. This series is a methodical look at a large variety of subjects including prophecy, archaeology, history, science, contradictions, philosophy, and more! This series is for the thinking person and I hope and pray that it blesses you.

Mike is rare guy these days. He searches for truth. Not mystical magic fancy or brand new and shiny. When a subject is debated, will give both sides to a satisfying degree.
Most of all, he keeps a peaceful heart on all issues. Never attacks anyone, and keeps the debate on topic.
Never form all your opinions from one source, but Mike Winger is a good one.

I started watching your Jesus in the OT playlist, but you mentioned your Evidence in the Bible series and this video is exactly what I was looking for. I'm taking notes as quickly as I can, pausing and rewinding- you weren't joking when you said you were going to go fast 😂 There's so much in the OT about Jesus!
I hope God blesses the work I'm trying to do in making a video, kind of in the style of a friend going through Scripture to explain who Jesus is, and that it touches someone's heart for him.

This has to be my most favorite sermon of all time. Excellent job Mike. I’ve been watching you since I researched Israel because I was introduced to replacement theology and I watched sermon after sermon from several pastors and I found rest in yours. Since then I’ve watched tons of your studies and I love the depth of your studies. I’m a bible nerd like you but you have me beat. I did a 77 video study from Hadavar (messianic Jewish) called The Jewish Life of the Messiah and it was wonderful. You cover the important Jewish culture that many pastors miss. I feel your are fair and logical as well. Thank you for your ministry. It helps increase my faith and allows me to talk about it with others with more confidence. Thanks for giving us the tools to make logical arguments.

The church did not replace Israel, we are Israel, the chosen people of God out of both the Jews and Gentiles. (all other than Jews) Paul said that not all Israel, were Israel, because not all were true Jews. True Jews of the Old Covenant and the true Christians of the New Covenant are one people, called out of humanity by God, to be His people. The New Covenant was made with Israel, not with the church, they are the root, we the branches, but just one tree.

I'm glad you mentioned Dr. Brown! Here's a cool story about his Answering Jewish Objections. So, 10 months ago I went back home to visit my parents. I usually pack with me a book or two for the trip just so I don't get bored. The book I took with me that weekend was volume three of his series, which deals specifically with messianic prophecies. As providence would have it, the Uber driver that took me to the airport was a secular Jew who "even tried Christianity" at some point in his life. The message was clear. Once we made it to the airport, I pulled out my book and gave it to him :) Haven't seen him since. I prayed earnestly that God would use it to bring him to Him. I hope that it has happened.

If the Temple were standing today and there were people two Kosher Jewish men who heard what you did, you would in fact be put to death by the court under God's law. So much for the work you did. Sad, very sad indeed. I hope you repent and I hope he used the book you gave him for toilet paper. However that would actually be contaminating the feces since that book is more despicable than feces. I really hope he at least burned it.

I'm a university student from the UK and our Christian Union has just been told that our annual missions week is going to have to be held online due to the new, more infectious strain of Covid currently circulating round the country. Having watched these last few videos pertaining to Jesus being the prophesied Messiah, I'd like to know if there are any shorter, more evangelistically tuned videos that you recommend on these topics for showing at evangelistic events? I really loved the way you tackled these issues in such a logical and methodical way and I feel like in my university setting, this would be so valued. However, we've found often that people's attention span for online content is a lot shorter! Any recommendations would be so appreciated! Blessings Mike thank you so much for your work :)

Hi, MIke. You've probably answered this elsewhere, but I don't see the genealogy of Mary in Luke. It goes from Joseph to his father, Heli, and so on. In Matthew it goes from Jacob to his son Joseph. Mary is mentioned as the husband of Joseph, but I don't see any mention of her father. Love your videos and I'm glad to hear that you're going to be doing them full time.

    • @jader838
      @jader838 Před 4 lety

Charles King it is a difficult explanation. I’m not sure if there is definitive proof, but most scholars believe that the genealogy in Matthew follows Joseph’s line because it says, “Jacob the father of Joseph, the husband of Mary”. In Luke, on the other hand, it says Heli or Eli. So the idea is, since they seem to be very different, the two genealogies must follow a different parent. Since Matt. says “the father of” referring to Jacob being Joseph’s father, most deduce that it must be following Joseph’s line. In Luke, translations add the words, “the son” to each generation. In other words, in the Greek, it simply says, “as was supposed, the son of Joseph, of Eli, of Matthat, of Amos...” etc. Because most genealogies back then rarely included the women, it seems likely that Luke used Joseph instead of Mary, being Eli’s son by marriage.

    • @miniwars123
      @miniwars123 Před 3 lety +1

I think the case for Luke 3 being about Mary comes from the phrase “Jesus...being (as was supposed) the son of Joseph, of Heli, of...” The argument is that Jesus is in reality the son of Mary and that it was improper to mention a woman’s name in the genealogy. Therefore the passage is inferred to mean “Jesus...being in reality the son of Mary, of Heli, of...”
Another argument (proposed by Africanus c 200 AD) is that Matthat and Matthan married the woman Estha (a name handed down by tradition) in succession (i.e. Matthan died before Estha married Matthat). Estha therefore gave birth to both Jacob and Heli. Heli married a woman but died before having a son and so Jacob took Heli’s wife via Levirate marriage and begot Joseph for his brother Heli. Hence Jacob begot Joseph but Joseph was legally the son of Heli.
As I understand it, most modern evangelical scholars take the 1st theory over the second.

In those days whenever a couple would become married they were known to their spouse’s parents to become their own children. So when the Bible mentions Joseph as the husband of Mary it’s implying her father became Joseph’s father.

I love this message and the way he delivers it. This is the kind of stuff that really strengthens my faith. I need logic, science, and math to support Biblical claims. I do have one slight correction to point out. The slide at 59:20 that depicts 1 in 10 to the 157th power is not right. I didn’t count every single zero but I am estimating that that shows 1 in 10 to the 471st power. . It looks like they made the slide with 157 sets of 3 zeros rather than 157 zeros. Again, I didn’t count every row but there are about 15 or 16 sets of 3 zeros in each row and there are 10 rows, so I’m thinking they did 157 sets of 3 zeros, which is 471 zeros. It should just be 157 zeros, so it would end in line 4. This doesn’t change the validity of the message, or the fact that it is still statistically remarkable.

You're going to have to do a lot of the research on your own, because there's hundreds of prophecies from Moses, Joshua, judges, David (Psalm 69, Psalm 22) Samuel, even Solomon/proverb writers were talking about Yeshua. Then you got parallel prophecies in Elijah and Elisha's ministry, you got Isaiah, Jeremiah, Ezekiel, Daniel, Hosea and many of the minor Prophets. But honestly years from 1300 b.c to ~350 b.c is when all of these were written. The last question is answered in the sheer fact of how Isaiah is written. Half of the book is dedicated to Jews AFTER exile, when Isaiah ONLY lived before the exile. Yet when you read it it looks as if Isaiah is literally living after the exile.
There's no telling what people would have thought. The closest you might get is studying Paul, a Messianic Jew himself who testified to the Messianic nature of Yeshua.

      I think I can help.
First of all, the prophecy mentions the 14th day of the first month of passover. Christ is crucified on the 14th of Nissan, which is the month of passover (which is strangely also the 7th month, for Nisan is the month of passover and also the 7th month).
Secondly, the bull was the most expensive offering possible (which he offers for all, and as Christ is God, he is the most expensive offering possible), and the 7 young bulls and 7 rams represent the fullness of the sacrifice possible, for the fullness of the passover (which lasts for a week, and in Christ for all times).
Thirdly, the grain offering is a prefigurement of the eucharist, and the offering of the bread for the bulls and rams previously mentions shows that Christ's body is the bread of life and the literal body and blood of God, the oil representing Christ's anointing.
The fifteenth day of the 7th month (which is also Nissan), Christ descends to the dead to redeem those of the Old Covenant, which is what the "same provision", refers to.

@@jokatim "Can you inform me about how many years before Jesus the Bible's old testament was actually written?"
Which part of the Old Testament? The books were not all written at the same time. Here is the date range for the Old Testament:
      1200-165 BC
Note that the Old Testament contains failed prophecies, and that other religions contain fulfilled prophecies, showing that prophecies don't tell us whether or not a religious text is of God.
"And how many prophecies of the 730 about the Messiah have been unfulfilled?"
All I know is that the prophecy about a virgin birth is a deliberate twisting of the proper translation of the word 'almah', which means 'young woman', not 'virgin'. And I know that Jesus did not fulfill all the prophecies, such as the following prophecies about the Messiah:
      1. He will be anointed by a priest and seated on the throne of Israel.
      2. He will put an end to all war.
      3. He will usher in universal recognition of God.
      4. He will be born of David's seed (Jesus was not born of seed, but by virgin birth, so he failed to fulfill this prophecy - virgin births are usually for pagan gods).
      5. He will gather all the Jews back to Israel.
It is not until ALL the prophecies are fulfilled that we can know if someone is truly the Messiah. Also, the Old Testament says nothing about a son of God, or the Messiah being divine.
Here is a prophecy that Jesus made that failed to meet the deadline he set:
Matthew 16:27-28 King James Version (KJV)
27 For the Son of man shall come in the glory of his Father with his angels; and then he shall reward every man according to his works.
28 Verily I say unto you, There be some standing here, which shall not taste of death, till they see the Son of man coming in his kingdom.
This prophecy is about Jesus' big return.
Also, it is circular reasoning to say that a prophecy was fulfilled when both the prophecy and the fulfillment are in the claim. You cannot use the claim to prove the claim, and it is easy to write a fiction story that deliberately caters to fulfilling prophecies in older books. Also, many of the prophecies are not even prophecies about the Messiah, or even Jesus.

    @allensmith342 Před 4 lety +2

Mike... I love your teaching but there's a crucial error you made at (28:33) when you said the scepter departed from Judah in 70 AD. Actually, it occurred circa 7 AD and can be verified both intrinsically by scripture and extrinsically by the historian, Josephus.
In John 18, when the Rabbis brought Jesus to Pilate he told them to take Jesus and judge him according to their own law. The Rabbis responded saying that it wasn't lawful for them to put any man to death. Had the scepter not already departed then Jesus would not have been taken to Pilate. He would've been sentenced by the Sanhedrin and stoned to death rather than crucified.
After the death of Herod the Great, circa 4 BC, his second son, Herod Archelaus, was appointed by Caesar Augustus to rule Judea. He was despised and rejected by the Jews so much that Augustus replaced him with a Roman procurator named Caponius, circa 7 AD. Per standard Roman policy the legal power of the Sanhedrin was immediately restricted and the adjudication of capital cases was lost.
Josephus also confirms this transfer of power:
_After the death of the procurator Festus, when Albinus was about to succeed him, the high priest Ananius considered it a favorable opportunity to assemble the Sanhedrin. He therefore caused James, the brother of Jesus, who was called Christ, and several others, to appear before this hastily assembled council, and pronounced upon them the sentence of death by stoning. All the wise men and strict observers of the law who were at Jerusalem expressed their disapprobation of this act... Some even went to Albinus himself, who had departed to Alexandria, to bring this breach of the law under his observation, and to inform him that _*_Aranius had acted illegally in assembling the Sanhedrin without the Roman authority._*
    Josephus, Antiquities, 20:9.
So, we see how narrow a window of time was prophesied by Jacob when he said the scepter would not depart from Judah until Shiloh came. Jesus was only about 12 years old at the time.
Anyway, I thought you'd like to know this. I just discovered your videos and plan to watch them all. You're a knowledgeable and fantastic teacher!

The sign is probably not that a young woman will conceive. Because the passage doesn't make us one hundred percent certain what the sign is, Mike cannot object that the sign makes no sense unless it refers to a virgin birth. There is no reason that we cannot understand this passage fully in its original 8th Century BC context. If Mike wants to claim a later secondary fulfillment, that's fine. But this passage makes perfect sense in the historical context during which it was written.

I suspect that if John and the other Gospel writers had written lies about Jesus' life (e.g. Judas' betrayal etc.) in order to 'fit' the OT, then this could have crushed their credibility in spreading the Gospel to the Jews. That is, if you were trying to spread Christianity, it wouldn't be a good idea to make up lies that could be easily shown to be false by eyewitnesses to Jesus' life.

We know that the Messiah had to come 483 years after the order to restore the temple Daniel 9:26, and after that He would be killed. This brings us to around 30 A.D using the Jesish calendar. This can be found in the writting of historyans like Tactitus, Lucian, and Josephus. The order to rebuild the temple was in 445 B.C, the 20th year of Artaxerxes' reign Nehemiah 2:1-8. And Jesus was put to death by pilate. But pilate was governor from A.D 26 to A.D 36. So we can rest assure that Jesus is our Messiah. God bless.

You said "if you were trying to spread Christianity, it wouldn't be a good idea to make up lies that could be easily shown to be false by eyewitnesses to Jesus' life." This is a good, analytical thinking, but I disagree with it for two reasons.
      1. The gospels were written 40-70 years after the death of Jesus, and life expectancy wasn't very high in those days. It is likely therefore that there weren't many eyewitnesses among the readers.
      2. I have studied the Bible and other ancient writings. It seems to me that, in those days, the message was more important than the truth. Substituting veracity with attractive stories was acceptable.

Actually, modern Cohanim have a highly reliable way of knowing their ancestry. Studies have conducted DNA tests on Sephardic and Ashkenazi Cohans, and they were found to share a unique genetic marker pointing to a common ancestor in the time of Aaron.
This is actually to be expected because Cohans to this day have unique roles and rituals that they perform in synagogue services. They must give their Hebrew name, which is taught to them by their father and which includes a specification that they are a descendent of a Cohan, when they come up to read the Torah. They are prohibited from entering cemeteries except for the funerals of family members.
And, perhaps most significantly, they are taught a mystic hand symbol which they use under their prayer shawl while praying for the congregation at Yom Kippur. The rest of the congregation is not supposed to look at the hand symbol. Although it is known now because of popular culture, this would for centuries have been taught from father to son in devout communities who wouldn’t dare to look.
But even if they did, it’s unlikely that anyone religious enough to want to perform such a weighty ritual would dare commit the blasphemy of impersonating a Cohan, and on Yom Kippur no less. Also, others in the tight knit religious communities that Jews lived in for centuries would probably know their parentage anyway to know if they were lying.
Levis also perform the ritual washing of the Cohans’ hands to this day. The procedure that the Cohanim and Levis perform on the High Holidays is again something that sons traditionally learn from their fathers, who learned it from their fathers. It’s hard to imagine someone falsely inserting themselves into these roles, and I’m not sure why anyone would want to do so.
Below is a quote from an article about one of the genetic studies. Note these findings thoroughly debunk the myth promoted by neo Nazis that modern day Jews are “Kuzars” and not related to the Jews of the Bible.
“they found that a particular array of six chromosomal markers was found in 97 of the 106 Cohens tested. This collection of markers has come to be known as the Cohen Modal Hapoltype (CMH) -- the standard genetic signature of the Jewish priestly family. The chances of these findings happening at random is greater than one in 10,000.
The finding of a common set of genetic markers in both Ashkenazi and Sephardi Cohanim worldwide clearly indicates an origin pre-dating the separate development of the two communities around 1000 CE. Date calculation based on the variation of the mutations among Cohanim today yields a time frame of 106 generations from the ancestral founder of the line, some 3,300 years -- the approximate time of the Exodus from Egypt, the lifetime of Aaron HaCohen.”
