Ive just built my self a "Tempest" type up flow filter, with means to put k1 (or similar) in to it where you can literally take it apart and claen it properly. In mine i wont be using K1 for now (or similar) but will be adding filter floss to gather the fines, ive also added a brass hose fitting for 10mm airline to give it a "boil" clean if needed, obviously you wont need this with floss, but its there if you want it. I emailed EA and asked if they do a smaller version of the Tempest where they say they dont, but at 1m+ in height its a bit of a monster which sometimes cant be hidden, so i made mine 40cm tall (plus pipe work underneath for draining) But if you look at yours there is so much wasted space which wont do anything, hense the reason for making mine smaller. I also made mine for the pricely sum of around the £110 mark with does the same thing as the Tempest but for less money and takes up less space.
Nice update👍😊. I’ve definitely seen more negative reviews about the tempest than positive ones so your just helps to confirm that they aren’t up to the hype. Never seemed robust enough for my liking so think I’ll stick to other forms of filtration👍. Take care and stay safe👍🐟🈲😊
Replace the one way valve with a better quality one,it's what I had to do and it cleans great now,totally agree with what your saying though, for the money you shouldn't have to fix things,great video apart from the politics,there are plenty of channels churning that out 👍
Hi I’ve had a tempest for a year at the end of march and not had a problem have cleaned the one way valve once yours system seems to drop the water faster than mine reducing bubble time
It’s actually dropping the water slower than it ever has, trouble is that means the bubbles are not vigorous enough to dislodge the waste. I’m sure as a water polisher it’s more than up to the task but EA state the other uses and unfortunately it’s just not suitable for those.

It’s a shame that it’s so disappointing, I really wanted one right from the launch, luckily I only wasted £150 instead of £250. All the best Phil👍

Buy new instead of secondhand clearly a faulty filter it happens.try blowing air into the airline to clean the bottom mabys
Mine works great I do put attach a air pump now and then open top valve and let it bubble for ten ta fifteen min

It’s the ball valve I changed, it was off an oase biotech 4 filter.
