5:20 Cesar own paper is 160 gsm so 150gsm is also paintable after priming it
5:50 after it opens you cannot see the stitches
And also ivory warm white pages instead of cold white
6:50 smooth surface = if you don’t want grain to show and want precise details
9:20 he tape the top and bottom edge of the paper while gesso and painting

Excellent explanation of the different papers in the S&B sketchbook series. I always have a hard time deciding which of their papers to get in my sketchbook, but it never matters in the end since they're all great in their own way and can adapt my working method to best fit the paper. Thank you for giving me a new way of sealing my drawing on canvas. Normally I'll use a very thin layer of liquin, but I'd like to try your light coat of fixative and then the clear gesso since I'm painting on Claessens acrylic primed. Cheers!

I absolutely LOVE Stillman &Birn and stand by their sketchbooks - I have tried other sketchbooks and I keep my S&B - their 270 gsm ones are perfect for Inktober - I get them in various sizes including square. Illio is nothing in comparison- - markers still show thru in Illio to the other side. So highly highly recommend Stillman & Birn as well - used most of their alphabet so far and have mot been disappointed.

Hi Cesar: I am the proud owned of two of your videos and have found them very helpful. I wonder whether you would consider a video of techniques for drawing “large” - how to get large pieces of rolled paper flat; if you tack paper to the wall to work on anything you do to protect the wall; special challenges or things to consider when drawing the figure or portrait in a very large size vs. smaller; anything else I didn’t think to ask? Keep up the good work!

Cesar, may I ask, how is it that you apply gesso to your sketchbooks? As in the density of it, number of layers, etc. I recently tried applying gesso to some fabriano paper I had rolling around my house and I think I messed up as there were some areas of the paper in which paint flowed seemlessly but some others in which I could barely paint in.

I have been trying to find a proper sketchbook for painting ever since I saw your videos on sketchbooks. I thought I would have to create my own but I think I will try the S&B Beta to get started.
