Same here! It’s been a little over a year and I basically just knew how they landed on the moon and a little about the space shuttle. And then I bought KSP and I was hooked and now I want to study space engineering and a big part is because of Tim! Your amazing man and I love your content thanks for bringing me (an everyday person) to space!❤️

I know I am late to the party, but this just popped up because I had been looking at some KSP things again. Have to say, you have some serious love from me for this channel as it's amazing. The content beyond KSP is what has really drawn my attention and endeared this channel to me. So very glad that you also decided not to leave this stream private but to make it publicly available to be watched again.

The Buran's planned eventual older brother had boosters that were designed to land horizontally with folding wings and landing gear. So cool.

Carl Johan yep. Nasa didn’t really check the numbers on that one... although it’s impressive how the space shuttles flew 133 successful flights (135 flights if you count the challenger and Columbia disasters)

The Buran outdid the shuttle by eons. I hate to admit it because I am full American, but I can't deny it. Even though it was completely stolen from the U.S., it was rendered to a better design and was freaking flown without anyone on it and managed to decent and land in one piece. WAYYY AHEAD OF THOSE TIMES. Nice! I would live to see one in real life!

Tim! If you try another Buran build, in the original plans it had jet engines on the orbiter.. that would have solved all you problems with landing. I’m surprised no one in the chat brought that up!

I had the privilege of climbing all over the OK-GLI Atmospheric Test Prototype. It was remarkably similar to the photos of the "space" version, which I believe flew, once, unmanned.
This surviving, restored Buran proto is in Speyer Technikmuseum, but at the time, some entrepreneurs shipped it to various countries and it ended up in Pyrmont, Sydney, AU for quite a few years in the early 2000s whilst its true ownership was contested. The exhibit was not hugely popular (space-shuttle missions were routine at that time), and so my girlfriend and I were the only ones there on that day, and un-supervised!
Crawling up to the front, I noticed a very Soviet "light green" cockpit along with a pair of Severin K-36 Ejection-seats. They may even have still had the pyros in, knowing the collapse of the old Soviet Union and the "entreprenurial spirit" that overtook the country.
One thing I noticed was the coverings. They were some kind of silicate tiles, but they were "spongy" when pressed. I couldn't get up to feel the leading-edges of the wings, but they were shinier than the US wing LE coverings. The whole thing smelled like a jet, of hydraulic fluid and JP-4.
I like watching the old live streams just like this one and at 2:34:04 he was talking about how all Starlink missions are gonna be launched from vandenberg lol

Spacex should use flux pinning to stop Starship in bellyflop above an electrically charged pad. The cold belly from sloshed liquid oxygen/methane on ceramic heat shield tiles can create a superconductor quantum locking situation that cushions, slows, and stops the rocket in mid air. Tim ask Elon if they have considered this. Just imagine seeing Starship (BFR) skydiving down to the pad, slowing, stopping, floating, and rotating like the actual BFG!
Man, watching this reminds me of playing other building games at that amazing 20(?) FPS. KSP, however, runs fine for my laptop.

In the planned next evolution of the Energya rocket (Energya was supposed to be a whole family of heavy and super-heavy rockets), the boosters were supposed to fly back and land using deployable wings. After separating from the rocket, they would open their folded wings, and glide to a landing strip. A similar technology has been used in the Baikal reusable flyback booster, proposed for the Angara rocket family.

I mean if your playing it on a second screen while playing KSP on your main monitor, that I get.
Buran didn't have the 3 engines, only the orbital ones. It avoided this way to take into orbit the massive 18 tons load of engines not needed.
You forgot to put the two jet engines on the buran that were supposed to extend its range after reentry. (Even though the Buran that flew into space didn´t have these, all shuttles that have been built had the possibility to be equipped with jet engines right next to the rudder.)

2:01:43 They don't listen since someone recently created a piece of music and had it claimed for no reason. CZcams doesn't care if its unfairly claimed, since if deny(Can't remember the function's name.) the claim and say it's fair use, its up to the claimer, not CZcams to decide whether or not its fair use, and 80% of the time they say that it is not fair use, while it is.
If this happens, you should warn the claimer of possible legal actions for fraud, since they are stealing your revenue, which counts as fraud. If this ever happens on something that you should have earned a lot on, say for example a video with a lot of ads and you get claimed for no reason, you could perhaps take legal action.
Taking legal action is one fake claim and a large leap for fair use.
This here will actually support the creators since that means there are less fake claims to deal with - and if you send in a dispute? I think that is the name that I forgot from earlier, and they deny it you'll end up with a strike and the video affected will be taken down. IF this happens THREE TIMES, YOUR CHANNEL WILL BE TERMINATED. First strike: You lose availability to make custom thumbnails and live streaming, I think. I'm sure about the thumbnails, but not so sure about the streaming. IF your channel gets terminated because of this, contact CZcams. If they don't reinstate your channel after a termination, (Which is possible, seen by a massive click baiter having been terminated his channel twice, and yet got it reinstated both times. *hint: his name is sernandoe.* ) they are technically not enforcing Fair Use, which on a legal side doesn't look good.
But while the goods may look tempting, there are also bads, which includes:
- The prices of legal action (You probably will win the case and will get compensated but if you don't you have to compensate your opponent.)
- CZcams possibly not cooperating properly, and ignoring your requests by making up how they 'cant bring back/reinstate terminated channels'(which is a lie, read a couple of lines above.)
- The possibility of having insufficient time enough to produce content during and due to the case.
All in all, it the goods doesn't outweigh the bad, and neither does the bad outweigh the good.
But seriously, if somebody claims your video that is fair use - don't be silenced by the copyright system, since they are breaking the law. CZcams really needs to fix their copyright systems.
*BEWARE!* I am not an attorney, a judge or an advocate (Isn't an advocate and an attorney the same?) so I may be inaccurate since I have not gone to law school, yet I do know quite a bit about the algorithm.
Also, just a recommendation: Build your own rocket! Seriously, you can find engines made by Estes on Amazon, for a small price when you think about it.
Love your content, also please begin producing flight suits - like not the one you wear, but like the blue ones by NASA, just make it orange and put the patch you already are selling on it - or sell it seperately, I don't know!

Put a drogue chute on as nosecone if you don't have enough lift you can deploy it and the gear will touchdown before the nose

why not use solid rocket sepatrons? I always forget to add a gimbals on my rockets so they could rotate themselves

Well maybe I should comment on a newer video but I notice the rocket flame(?) looks like the Proton rocket and I was wondering what is it that makes the Proton rocket flame look so unique and beautiful.
To my knowledge it looks like this for the same reason the RS25 flames looked so clean was because it used its oxidizer to cool the nozzle instead of using an ablative coating.

Just begun watching this, probably will not view entire thing. You need interior decoration like typical office in Star City with portraits of Tsiolkovsky, Korolev, and Gagarin. If really cold, you need to wear one of those Siberia hats. It seems this video is just begging for a "In Soviet Russia..." Other than that watching the real thing launch must have been something. And to thing the Buran and other left overs just rotting away. Perhaps illustration that big space stuff needs big infrastructure to support it.

Буран was actually a rejected concept of Space Shuttle: it is preferable to have a disposable fuel tank than a disposable Энергия rocket.
