- www.maddenbaseball.com Join the newsletter! Here's a video on Baseball Pitching Curveballs like how to throw a slurve, curve, and 12-6 curveball. These 3 pitches are all variations of the curveball and even though they may have the same pitching grips, they are different pitches. In this video I explain how and why they are different and also how to grip and throw the curveball variations. So here are the different pitching grips:
1) 0:39 The Slurve, Curve, and 12-6
2) 1:06 How the curveballs are different
3) 2:49 Curveball Grips
4) 3:46 How to throw a NASTY curveball

Great video man! I am now 5-1 pitching this year ,and I'm averaging 7Ks a game. The tip at the end about fluent backside and quick in the front when throwin the slurve helped me the most
+Chase Clark I'm happy to hear this! Keep up the good work my man!
Great video, my seasons starting soon and I will probably pitch, I can throw 2seam, 4seam, and a forkball, well now some curves cause of this vid! THANKS PRO!
John, your tutorials are the best. I learn a lot and it's helped my game. I only play recreationally, but it was embarrassing when everybody, even the 60 year old guy was getting hits off of me. Now I strikeout that 60 year old guy thanks to your vids.
Thank You for the valuable lesson. Those different curveballs have given me fits because I didn't know the grip and throwing motion. Now I understand!
Great vid. My boy is throwing more accurate since going to your camp. Thank you so much and keep it up!
Thanks for helping me out, I strike out almost everybody now!
me too
Great pointers! Great video. Congrats to your boy JD on winning the AL MVP!
Thanks Peter!
thanks for teaching i finally know how to use curve,slurve,12to6 curve and a c change
I've gotten pretty good with the cutter because of these videos👍🏻
U explain how to throw pitches the best thank you
Explained Excellently!
I just leaned how 2 throw a 12-6 the other day, and I’m hoping this might help with how I grip the ball when I pitch so it might break more hopefully
great vids. very well explained. i play in a semi pro league and started relief pitching late. i am 30... and still learning. the cutter is now my out pitch, if im way ahead on the count ill theow it. it really messes with em!!! hahaha
+Christopher Froehlich that-a-boy! Mow them fools down!
Hey john I'm 11 and have a lineup like this 2seam 4seam splitter and a knuckle. I watched this video because I really wanted to know how to throw a slurve so thanks so much for the help😀
Love this video it helped me a lot and I need help
I've also noticed that when pitchers throw a 12-6 they tend to lean back further at the point in their motion where the ball is over their head. By leaning back it allows the pitcher to throw the curve in a more overhand fashion resulting in the 12-6 break.
Thanks for the information
Thank you im glad I found your videos Im playing for my highschool and Im the only left handed pitcher and these help alot thanks
Awesome keep me posted on how your season is going!
Our season is going really well we've lost 2 and won 2, practices are helping us get way better than when we started off the season.
Way to go Jersey girl!!!!! thumbs up!
Excellent.
Thanks for the tips

I throw a slurve and my pitching coach wants to work with me on having two versions of my slurve: a fast sharp one, and a slow more loopy one. To get the speed changes, is it the way I grip the ball in terms of how tight I hold it or what the actual grip is, or is it where my release point is?
Nice video bro I used to pitch when I was younger I'm 45 now but when I was pitching in Little League I could never understand what pitch i threw. but now I understand it was probably a slurve. Because I threw sidearm a lot almost like Dennis Eckersley. And the Umpire back then said I had he ever seen. Too bad I didn't stick with it cuz now I'm in the trades fixing houses instead of starting for the red sox. Lol
Dude your amazing for real thanks for the tips
You're welcome Max! Thanks for watching! You subbed?
Great video.

Im a leftie pitcher in 13u, i got a 4 seam, 2 seam, curveball, sinker, slider, and my two seamer is gripped like a 12-6 and snap my wrist to the side but with no follow through, i only throw the sinker when a runner is on 1st base, slider in leftie matchups and curveball in rightie matchups( the curveball hooks like my 4 seam and hooks back to the leftie batters box so they roll over, i throw 4 seam like 85% of the time, sinker 5%, slider 2.5%, and 2 seam 8.5%. Sounds complicated but situations play out and some days i cant throw certain pitches right, and our coach makes sure not to overwork our developing arms and gives us lots of rest, we have 9 pitchers on our team, and we all pitch well, for those wanting to know, i play for Prospects Traing Academy White (B) team as of 2019, we are doing much better than our A team, we are 17-7.
John madden, I don't no how to get topspin on a baseball can you make a video about it?
4seam, 2seam, circle change, curveball, knuckle (I switch between knuckle and curve)
I was the 150,000th subscriber
for a normal curve ball should i snap the wrist with the downward motion or just go down with it?
I wish i would've been a into baseball more then football or soccer in high school it looks fun.
Ty man
Hi big fan love ur vids
Thanks Wyatt!
I can pitch 2 4 circle change up change up 3 curves that I can drop almost 3 feet and curve left and right and if I feel like it a knuckle curve but I'm mostly a catcher
Dog is thinking "this is weird, he's not talking to anyone"

thx I like how you relate to yourself
I can't seem to get very much right to left movement on my curveball. I have a great 12-6 curve but I would like to try to develop a more 1-7 movement. any tips, tricks or advice is greatly appreciated thank you
i'm having trouble getting on top of the curve, my movement has more horizontal than vertical break (2 to 7-8ish break). more sidespin than topspin, any tips on getting more topspin?
yes check out my broomstick drill
I have a 4seam fb, 2seam fb, curveball, knuckleball, knucklecurve, sinker, and a circle change
I throw a fastball, a fastball, a fastball, oh yeah, and a fastball
Those are the 4 best pitches in baseball!
xD that used to be me. good luck man
I played baseball as a kid. When I started batting against curve balls I switched to soccer.
imateapot51 curves aren’t that hard u just have to track the velocity and arm speed of the pitcher, also his release point. Then, it’s really easy to tell where the ball is going to end up
Me is 4 seam, 2 seam, and change up
Fastball, curve , slider, change up, and cutter
Tbh I'm not here because I need to learn pitches as I've got my set 5 pitches. I'm here to learn and to teach my kids in about 20 years. I'm 16 playing 18u and hoping to go D1. 0-0 on the year so far but I have allowed 1 ER and 1 hit. I've got a 11.35 K/7 or a 15 k/9. Personally I love throwing my Knuckle Curve. It's got sharp late movement and I only recently picked it up cause of my friend.
Btw my 5 Pitches are
4 seam
2 seam
Knuckle Curve
Straight Change
Splitter
I just find pitching fun and I'm definitely gonna sub.
+EL Hopeful Cool man. Good looks.

Sandra Adkins so cute
Sorry she is so cute
My curveball goes to left to right so thank you you are the best I know how to throw. A 2 seam 4seam curve change up spitter :) thanks
Same my best is the 12-6 curve and change up and fastball
thug life I throw a knucklecurve
+Chris Carrillo coolchris_04 I can kinda
Hi I am 12 I just started yesterday and can already throw a 4 seam,sinker,12 6 curveball, occasionally a curveball and learnt the grip for a circle change the sinker is my favorite but let me get to the point i need some help with getting horizontal movement on my curveball I find it really hard to get any curve except 12 6 have you got any tips or videos to help me with this
Four-seam fastball and a two-seam fastball and a circle changeup and a sinker and a curveball and a knuckleball and a knuckle curve and a slurve and a slider and a 12-6 curve
I throw a 4 and 2 seam and a cutter but now a curve👍
I throw a fastball and a curve what another pitch I should throw
In my pitching arsenal I have a 4 Seam, 2 Seam, Cutter, Circle Change ( rotate hand based on lefty and righty and if he's late or early), Slider, Curve, Splitter, Sinker, and honestly based on the weather and day a Knuckle.
Wow, I'd hate to hit against you
Don't matter what you can pitch it matters how well you pitch it
Gabe Supalla Splitter can do some work, but I'm more of a location pitcher than speed. Like my 4 Seam can hit low 80's but pin point, and my Change is from 60-65
all that nonsense you only need 3 or 4 pitches fastball breaking ball and changeup
I have a question, how do some people throw cutters and sliders that act like curveballs. An example is wade davis's cutter that movies like a 12 - 6
+Legal Somalian (CaptianTicTac69) I think a lot of the times someone calls their pitches something they're not, which is ok because it's their pitch, and sometimes it's just stupid announcers.
ok it was the announcers hahah
Thanks I know how to the row the other curves
+Michael Hill Cool.

Thanks for the vid! Do you think you could make a video with some of the cool little things you did playing pro? Specifically like what catchers amd coaches would say to you on the mound and stuff like that?
Oh, like what really goes on during mound visits? If they only knew 😜
Haha. Exactly. I play ball up in Canada and am trying to get a sense of the 'American' pastime. We love it here too
+Josh Eizenga Mound visits are always fun! Most of the time the coach is just trying to lighten the mood as usually the only time he's coming out there is in a heated situation. So he's always usually laid back and says something funny and then says what he needs to say. With that being said, I've been a part of some real crazy mound visits too. You ever seen Bull Durham?
+YouGoPro yep. One of my favourites
+Josh Eizenga czcams.com/video/diX4myfR6vU/video.html
So would a sweeping curve be exact same as a slurve?
I'm side arm and I throw a four seam fastball, sinker, cutter, slider and a circle change up
I have been throwing a lot of gyro-balls, I think maybe I should focus more on movement then speed at this point
2 seam. 4 seam. Curve, knuckleball and a knuckle curve and the classic badass spitball
I'm 13, and I throw my 4 seam @ 60-67mph
I also throw:
2 Seam
Cutter
12-6 curve
splitter
my Modded circle changeup (make an e with thumb and pointer finger)
And a football curve(arm motion as if throwing a football)
Kevin McCarther lol u only throw 60-67
Fastball,Change up,12-6Curve
I throw a 12-6 a slurve a cutter a 4 seam a 2 seam and Vulcan change my slurve and cutter are nasty I throw primarily side arm to help my arm the 12-6 is the only pitch I overhand but it’s usually low in the zone so nobody chases it slurve is nice to lead off they are great pitches
hey really great video, couple questions, i am more like a hitter than a pitcher but, due to excessive exercise i have quite tight arm, any stretching exercises you recommend for pitching? other question is, can you show a good grip and throwing motion for a nasty move 2 seems fastball? i do not get the movement that often only when i change my arm angle but it is risky and painful. Thanks bud.
this vid may help you czcams.com/video/nXKnvw8qfEI/video.html
edgar lenin lizarraga gastelum
Be careful that you sfont put to much stress on you’re arm, if you’re having pain I would definitely rest it longer or take a break from pitching.
My arsenal is 12-6 2fb 4fb sinker slider and star
yea jersey girl!
I throw a 2 seam fastball 4 seam fastball and a changup
I always throw a 4 seam fastball but i have my ring finger rested on one of the seams aswell... everyone on my team says i throw curveballs but i dont😂 even my dad says it has a tail on it, someone explain
At what age can you throw a slurve? Thanks
Curveball 4seamed fastball 2 seamed fastball and knuckleball
+Matteo Ventrella 👍
4seam, 2seam, slider and now im working on my 12 6 curve
Ryan same
I throw a Vulcan changeup, palmball, 2seamer and 4 seamer
The dogs face after John rolled the ball was hilarious 😂😂😂
+Patrick LeVeck that's my baby girl. She's funny
Thought I was the only one who saw
does it hurt to throw or to let go is it hard?
huh?
The dog's face is priceless
2 seam fastball and sinker and 4 Seam fastball and split finger fastball
+MaddenMobile Savage Nice!
what pitches do you recommend for a 10 year old? this is his third year pitching and he has a natural right to left movement because of his arm angle he has a hard time keeping his two and four seams going straight....any tips?
I recently taught him to throw a sinker and the ball moves arm side with a spiral 8inch loop movement....its pretty funny to see it but hard to hit.
I recommend a fastball and maybe a 4 finger/3 finger change. depends how developed he is. Don't ruin his arm.
+Jim Moser Fastball and change. Sinker is best fastball and ok for 10.

OMG JERSEY IS SOOOO CUUUTE
I throw 4 seam 2 seam silder and a 12 6
First time I tried throwing a curve I left it way over the plate and I was brought in to a situation where the bases where loaded and you know what happened next... Grand Slam lol I was mad. I wasn't a pitcher most of my time I was a catcher
Does anybody have a good finisher in there arsenal I need one
Can I stick to my normal speed or throw it slower?
Sry just got into pitching
I love the vid I am just learning how to throw different pitches
I subscribed show how to pitch fast ball
She's cute I love your dog
