If you will be around the main square, you could enter to the church of the company, it is in the corner. A good walking may be going straight through the San Francisco street, crossing Ayacucho street is san Lázaro suburb, there is nice architecture, then go back to Ayacucho and walk to Miguel Grau bridge to see the river and maybe some alpacas at the end, there is Yanahuara, cross Yanahuara, visit the Yanahuara mirador, continue walking until Cayma square. Maybe you will be tired, so take an Uber to Carmen Alto Mirador and then to Puente Fierro. That could be good walking, pretty safe and good views.

The bull over there represent a very old Arequipan tradition. This is a bull fight and it actually happens usually in August in a place named "Cerro July" The first one who runs away is the one who lost.

Despite all the good things of Arequipa, there's a lot of bad things: only downtown is taken care by the government and citizens, and it happens in almost all the cities of Peru, they could be a potential tourist country and a big choise to live, but they aren't, and they will not be in many years. The streets and ways outside downtown are too damaged and dirty, holes in the broken roads, incomplete sidewalks, many stray dogs and homeless. There are robbers in the main avenues, many informal people and smoke from old urban busses with terrible drivers, home invasions in the hills, unfinished houses, and the list goes on... Peru is a great country with many natural places and variety of climates, but is too poor in the mind of the peruvian people and from the people who rule them

That petra quarry is not in the sacrad valley, it's located in Arequipa....next to cuzco.

You should go to Amazonas-Chachapoyas to visit Kuelap and hike to see the huge waterfalls there . It's my favorite place in Peru :)
