      Well at least you can say that you're an honest man with integrity being that you're only lusting for a laptop. I am in the same situation, if my better half ever found out I spent that much money on a laptop, all hell would break loose and I would see my life flash before my eyes and there would be no coming back from that one. In the meantime I will stick with my Asus entry level gaming laptop.

    Im considering it but man building the same machine and just running Linux is so much cheaper and upgradable. I just want the apple silicon but you get so hosed for memory and storage. had the base M3 Max w 36gb and Besbuy price matched Microcenter which has the 48gb model upgrade for $3599 at time of writing, so ended up with that (do a lot of Ultra HS medium format photo editing - while having all my own apps open in the background). Do I see a HUGE difference - no. Do I see a difference day to day - I think so. However, if after any sales, the 36gb option was nice. I DID run into some memory issues with LR Classic (but I don't think this was a fault of the system, just software development needing to work across a broad range of machines, and not being optimized). I upgraded due to the price difference being minimal, figured $200 now over 3-5 years is not the end of the world. Will it actually see a difference? I don't know, and even if so = how much? (software is not only slow to adapt but needs to work for a variety of hardware (aka typically not the latest and greatest as the vast majority of users are NOT using that hardware - think iPhones and iPads = super powerful hardware but apps are still made for 5-7 year old tech specs)

      I will note that everything is "snappy-er" on the new machine, the 36gb model I had for 2 weeks so it wasn't old. If you can snap a deal it "might" be worth it? if your workflow can have a slight bump. Otherwise besides a few small "stress" test hiccups the base 36gb model was great.

    I got same configuration but only 2tb. Totally worth the upgrade even though the M1 Max I have as a back up is pretty close in speed for what I do. I think exporting 4k videos from Final Cut is a little faster but editing 8k 422 files is still laggy without proxies. This laptop makes me a lot of content quickly and effortlessly without breaking down. That is the value of Mac and Apple products for me. When I was using dell for 20 years the damn chips would melt and you would have to way for dell service tech to come to your house to fix it. Then the issue would happen again because of the thermal paste on the cpu not working. I use the 14 with avp and this is amazing. Just looking forward to the time when I can just use avp with m4 chip and an external keyboard. Wish the avp vision os was more like Mac desktop so I can open multiple windows that I can use mouse keyboard on for work. Think this will eventually happen but until then the 14 is making amazing return on investment.

Since the M3 Max has been out I'm trying to rationalize why should I buy one, but I just can't find any reason. I could afford it, but to be honest I'm not even using the full potentials of the M1 Max so far, so all the extra power that M3 Max would provide would be probably wasted. So maybe the M5 or M6 ...

The low power mode cuts down energy draw considerably (much more as in my sisters m1max, and i heared also in the m2 generation low power mode isnt very useful) if you just do daily tasks like mails or righting texts you wont see any downside in performance while in low power mode. All the while the whole system sips less than 20 watts. For anything demanding switch back to automatic/ high power mode else the machine feels slow.

      Yes I know that was the story back when everyone was having a panic attack about the so called overheating. Like I said, I’ve had zero issues with that or thermal throttling. Those issues are quite common on new models and are usually fixed after a firmware update or two.

      @@PatrickRambles first of all and no doubt that the fully load MacBook with 8Tb is expense but for me the power and speed of the memory and storage along with the convenience of not having to carry external storage was benefit enough to justify the cost. I have over 5TB of the 8 already used with all of my Logic Pro plugins so the extra space also gives me room to grow in my usage. In the future I hope they offer even more storage.

    It would be more useful if you compared it to something else. How do you know that much cheaper M3 Pro would make a noticeable difference?

    • @Superbus753
      @Superbus753 Před 4 měsíci

      In the m3 Generation the difference between the pro and max chips is greater than in previous m series. Already because the pro has 6 efficient cores and 6 performance cores. The max chips have 12 performance cores and 4 efficiency cores. The max also have a lot more gpu performance. So the pro chips are more efficiency oriented while the max chips go for pure performance.
